    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    The best part of Tom's videos is the simplicity and ease in which he explains things. For a golfer of my skill level (about a 13 or 14 handicap) doing the basics and staying within my ability keeps the game fun and enjoyable. Most golf tip videos spend 15 minutes basically not saying anything useful and of are no help. I need basic, fundamental golf tips and Tom delivers every time!

    Your system completely changed my game. I went from shooting over 100 and wanting to quit due to embarrassment....now I am actually having fun out there and hitting some impressive shots. I still have a long way to go, but golf is fun for me now because I have the ability to hit good shots. I’ve even had a few friends of mine who are very good golfers compliment my swing.

    Another gem. Wooden swing, no hands, point shoulder down with a shorter backswing. Consistency and pure strike is phenomenal.

      Awesome! I'm glad this lesson resonated with you, and I'm very glad to learn of your resulting dramatic ball striking improvement. Nice job incorporating it into your swing!!
      Now, I wouldn't necessarily call this a "wooden" swing as there is no stiffness or tension involved. Instead, we are just getting to our body's natural stopping point where the hips and shoulders have completed their tilted rotation, , the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists have properly set without any contrived or forced action. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
      Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!

    Hi Tom,
    I’m back again with another update. My handicap went up for a while after viewing your videos because I had a lot of demons in my swing that had to be cured. And, I was counting every stroke per the rules of golf to get an accurate picture of how much I needed to improve. Yesterday I played in a golf event with about 150 other guys. After reviewing your videos the day before and putting in some practice, I shot 80 and finished the tournament with the low net score of the day: 5 under par 67. I hit more fairways and more greens in regulation than ever before. If I was putting better I could have easily broken 80. My days of frustration golf are in the rear view mirror. Thanks for sharing your philosophy and process for playing better golf. 🙂

    Tom, your training has changed my game totally and all for the much better. I'm enjoying golf the most I have since I started back a few years ago. Shortly after I started your course I saw things in the golf swing that I knew were there, but couldn't get there. I'm there now. I just have to practice the training you provided. I have a relationship with the ball in my swing that I was missing. I now feel totally involved with it in my swing now. I have been taking my time with your lessons, not going forward until I was comfortable where I was and it's worked wonderfully. Thank you Tom. Awesome training in more detail than any books or videos I've ever watched.

    Tom, I would like to apologise to you for overlooking your You Tube Channel as being 80 years old I felt your S&T swing would not be the thing for me to try..To me it seemed like the type of swing for a much younger golfer, as you are. Recently I saw a video by Rob Cheney where he convinced me that this swing would not harm my body anymore than any other. Today I tried the S&T swing at my golf range after watching a couple of your videos and I am now "Hooked".I could not believe how quickly I got into the swing and hit the ball consistently pure and without much effort I was increasing my normal distances for each club. I did not try the driver but will do so next time.Again I,m sorry that I overlooked your videos but now know this swing has no age barriers and is kind to the body.Best regards from a satisfied old man.

      No apology necessary, Bob!! The Stack & Tilt swing is a very body-friendly method. For me this is supported by my personal experience as a player and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

    Just saw your video today and realized i do this and my shots are pure. When i try to bring my leff arm more for a longer backswing and it is a terrible shot after. I love my 5i. 200 yards average. But i need to learn to use a 3i.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 роки тому +1

      I'm glad to know that you already do this and have an understanding of the consequences of going too far. The key here is to avoid exceeding your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees.
      Now, get out there and figure out that 3 iron!!
      Cheers!

      I sincerely appreciate that, Gary!
      Mr. Hogan delivered - and continues to deliver posthumously - phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I'm doing my best to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered.
      By the way, due to their popularity I've combined my Hogan lesson videos into a playlist series on this channel. Here's the link if you are interested: ua-cam.com/play/PLV62KxT7Mp7IyNDRp0hZK1F1OScdXx-u1.html

    Tom, thanks for your simple, smooth training tips, and especially for using the term lead and trail,and front and rear, for describing arms and leg actions, instead of using left and right, like other instructors do. Makes it much easier for us oddball lefty golfers to understand instead of transposing everything, as left is right and right is left, when watching most training videos, for us southpaws, and that’s really annoying and distracting.

    Good Job Tom! You gave me a "reminder" to keep the chest pointed in a downward fashion for as long as possible on the backswing. Same thing on the downswing, "get the chest involved." Love your videos Tom great tips thank you. Quick question, you say weight forward for irons which I understand but for the driver too?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 роки тому

      Yes - it’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences - such as starting with a little more weight forward with the longer clubs - and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: ua-cam.com/video/7fmtzyH3rsA/v-deo.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: ua-cam.com/video/SLjwU_1Cc7o/v-deo.html If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously.
      Speaking of which, if you'd really like to own this swing through your entire bag please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. As an enrolled member you'll enjoy:

    Tom....No question about keeping weight forward head very stable gluing upper arms and the shortened backswing. Completely tuned in with ST. Just one thing.What is your view on the trailing arm and club being in alignment...a single plane setup. Would this not add yet another aspect to ST that would reduce variables in the golf swing. Do you have any fundamental objections to ST and single plane ? Love all your videos.Very entertaining.Nothing like a bit of whit and quip.Other golf UA-camrs are a bit dull by comparison.

      Although there are distinct differences as you mention, I have heard from golfers who have been successful in melding my instruction with a single plane style of swing as there are some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods. I think if you go about it intelligently it can work well for you, especially given the fact that Stack and Tilt is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined, based on a study of these ball striking legends, that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Stack and Tilt is a system for accomplishing these fundamentals incredibly well!
      By the way, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and so much more there. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/

      @@SagutoGolf Thanks Tom for your very fast courteous and informed reply.Since moving weight forward and keeping my head centred I have developed more consistent ball striking.As yet I have not committed to the ST setup and back swing.Those I use are still sound I believe (for me at least) and the reason for this is connected with a great tendency to overswing (I am very supple for a 64 year old).But things are going in the right direction.I will certainly have your program on hold just in case.Again your response is much appreciated.

    The half-swing has helped me more than anything I've ever implemented. Interestingly, on video the 'half-swing' is really more of a 3/4 swing... Moving to the half-swing feel allowed me to have better weight management, better shift/rotation and significantly more lag. You're 100% correct when opining the swing feels effortless and the ball explodes off the clubface - also much easier to work draws/fades. The 1/2 swing is harder for me to use with hybrids/driver as it tends to steepen my angle of attack. I have to slightly modify a shallower swing to avoid bottoming out the hybrids/woods. Thanks for putting the content out there- Happy New Year!!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому

      And what appears to be a 3/4 swing, Brent, is actually much closer to a full swing than we might think. Ultimately, the key is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist).
      As for those hybrids and woods, remember that the shaft length defines the shaft plane, and the longer the shaft the more around the body the club will travel. Otherwise, aside from minor ball position differences it's really the same swing with all clubs. For example, have a look at my range session demonstration using a 7 iron, 3W, and driver towards the latter part of this lesson video: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html
      Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!!

    I learned this finally this year. My mistake at first was shorter backswing but I thought that meant swing “easy”. So the ball went nowhere. Now, shorter backswing does not mean weak swing. Your video is such good advice.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 роки тому +4

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Ron. And yes - I purposely did not say "swing easy to hit it farther". I don't subscribe to that notion. It is true that the distance will feel effortless when the swing is properly executed, but that is happening through the efficient combining of physics and geometry to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". The key here is to avoid going beyond your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift

      Yes - in this swing system we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
