- I recently purchased the SDS Imports Tisas B45R Duty, which is a full-size government profile 1911 pistol. Although I've only shot 500 rounds of .45 ACP through it, so far I've been impressed with the built quality and performance of this pistol.
If you're looking for a quality 1911 at an attractive price, you may want to consider the Tisas B45R. It's offered in 9mm and .45ACP with and without accessory rails.
nice video, love the simple/chill editing style
New subscriber, because of being honest and humble. You don't find those traits on UA-cam much anymore.
Thanks so much!
I have the same anticipation and grip problems that you have with the 1911. A few things that have helped me:
1. Adjust your support hand so that you thumb rides higher, above/over the slide stop.
2. Transfer the stress from your shoulders to your forearms and hands, and grip the hell out of it. Your gun will float more, but your sight picture will remain in tact and it will allow you to transfer your body's force "closer" to the gun.
Great video. You sold me on this model.
Thank you! I’m definitely gonna try this the next time I hit the range.
Nice review! Appreciate the candor and sharing of your shooting experiences with this pistol. Refreshing to hear a review that is honest, well thought out and doesn’t try to have the attitude of a tier one operator, rather a common shooter like most of us are. Well done.
Thanks so much! Yeah, definitely want to have as much of a grounded viewpoint as possible 👍
Enjoyed your succinct and straight-forward review. I’ve got a Tisas Army, a Raider, and a Commander. All are excellent 1911s.
Thanks so much! I'm jealous... I definitely want more myself!
Nice pistol. I traded my way into the "Carry" Tisas in 45ACP and it is great. Changed a few parts to make it better and it is now my carry gun. Fit and finish is better than my Remington R1 1911 and I would say on-par with my Kimber. I will be adding one or two more of these to my collection.
Nice, yeah I had my eyes on the carry version! Glad to hear you like it. Which parts did you change?
I installed some night sights, an extended mag release, LOK grips, and left side (only) thumb safety.@@jamesshoots
I like that you added those brown VZ G10 grips and a magwell to make it look like Dan Wesson Specialist
Thanks man! Yeah gotta keep it classy lol 👌
@@jamesshootswhich vz grips and color did you go with?
Very nice acquisition. I have the Raider. Same family of tisas duty line. I love it!!!
Hell yeah!!
Awesome video man! I just got the Night Stalker from Tisas because I wanted a more feature rich 1911. Jealous of how clean and sleek your Duty looks! You did a great job explaining the features, your experience and the limitations of the platform, can’t wait to see more from you! 🔥🔥🔥
If I can offer a suggestion; during range day try putting a dummy round or two in a magazine in random order. You will be able to practice
tap, rack, bang drill AND you will absolutely see your flinch. if you have a range partner load the dummy rounds you'll keep it random. Make sure you keep the dummy rounds away from your defensive ammo. The cure for flinch is dry firing. I put an old kevlar vest that I folded to be thicker and aim at that when dry firing; just in case. Keep up the good videos.
Thanks so much! Yeah I need to up my dry fire volume and also load dummy rounds at the range. I actually just got back from the range and while there was still some flinch, I think I've made some improvements in my grip so it's not biting my thumb. Will keep you updated!
Quality vid. Will try to get you a couple more followers brother.
Thanks so much bro!!
For 500 bucks, thats the most beautiful handgun at that price. Looks like a dan wesson at first sight
Thank you!! Yeah tbh, that was actually the look I was going for 😂
Great video style man, subbed!
Thanks so much!!
Beautiful gun! Great video
Stay happy healthy and fluid
Nice review. I got a Tisas A1 US Army and a Tisas A1 Service because I wanted a faithful as possible WW2 reproduction 1911. Who knew the Turks could do it handsomely for $397 and $410 respectively. They have hammer forged barrels, frames, and slides. These are excellent, reliable, beautiful 1911s. They are accurate right out of the box. I'm sorry I waited so long to get my first 1911s (I'm 59). Your hand issues might just be a soft skin vs callous issue. I'm not sure you're gripping it wrong. I had similar issues when I first got a snub nose .38 Special revolver. Shooting stout rounds was not enjoyable. Thankfully there are more choices on the shelves these days. I love that I got 2 1911s for less price than a lot of others and mine are probably better. Go Tisas!
Whoa, that's a steal! Yeah I've been super happy with this purchase. I paid around $520 for mine (with shipping). And thanks for the advice. Guess I just gotta keep shooting. Glad you love your 1911s!
Try some shooting gloves that fit tight. Since you can use them for practice and won't have the issue when using the pistol for self-defense. @@jamesshoots
Awesome video on the 1911
You should look at a 9mm 1911. They're very smooth! Easy to enjoy in full size.
Oh I definitely want one! I’d get it in a Commander length as well. I just need to decide on one!
I believe if I'm not mistaken. These are also made in Turkey. They've been pumping out a lot of good guns and they have it on sale right now. 43 ninety nine I think I have no choice but to pick it up
Yo this is a really well made video. 100% subscribing.
Thanks so much!
Hey, you have those cool retro nasa posters, very cool.
Haha yeah I love them! I want to get more
If you ever get into 10mm, try the Tisas D10. It'd be less than $200 more but it will have 25 LPI checkering on the front strap.
Just picked up the same weapon and added some G10 grips. It's a SOLID pistol for the price. Not sure if I would CCW or nightstand this weapon yet....need more rounds down range vs glock or sig. Regardless, it gives the common man the glorious wonder of a 1911 at a good price with great quality.
Yeah definitely agree, the G10 grips were a really good replacement for the stock ones! I feel you there - after shooting the Tisas I switched back to my G17.5 for a bit... a big difference in performance lol
I have been considering it. If it was available with a threaded muzzle it wouldn't even be a question. I would jump on it.
Don’t quote me on this but I swear I read that threaded barrels were in the works!
Tisas just released the Night Stalker with a threaded barrel.
Hey, nice video dude.
Try to grip the pistol high under the beaver tail with the lower part of the hand gripping the grip safety mechanism, with your support hand wrap around the fingers of your shooting hand ,with both thumbs line up in the same direction. Try not to ride the slide of the pistol, squeeze off a few rounds and see how that feels..hope it helps..take care..
Thanks! Funny enough, since this vid, I ended up moving my right thumb just a tiny bit to the left - it still sits on top of the safety but it isn’t hugging the side of the slide if that makes sense. It completely stopped my hand from getting bitten!
Nice review. It reminds me of my Kimber Warrior, which I love and I have no complaints about, but the difference in price is.... yeah.
Oh man I just looked up the price and yeah that's a difference haha. But boy the Kimber Warrior looks sexy as hell
@@jamesshoots the Kimber has a spotty online reputation, but I absolutely love mine. The only thing I have done to it is us Wilson Combat 47Ds with it. I’ve put a silly amount of ammo through her, no problems.
Put skate board on the front strap it will help with the web irritation. If you're running 230 grain drop to 200 or even 180 for range time BUT Practice with what you're gonna carry so you don't flinch at a REALLY inopertune moment. Also Glock grip angle differs from 1911 and at the end of the day muscle memory is king.
U got the hair of a Greek god
Having shot the 1911 Gold Cup Match, I would recommend the palm under grip shooting stance. The wrap around grip can F up your game. Tight grip on primary hand and support hand guides the the primary. I printed a string of pearls on a 25 yd silhouette. 5 mags, 6 rounds each, Siamesed rounds 6 and 7. Won the Headhunter moniker.
Thank you! I'm definitely going to look this up!
old school, teacup, grip. excellent. those of us of a certain age know it well.
Their double stack 9 just dropped. A 2011 for $700❤ cant wait to see how it does in the wild. I can get one and a 45 for the price of one prodigy😢
WHAT. I need to check this out!!
i haven’t shot a m1911 45acp pistol since 1973. that hurried and unproductive army experience, plus some later excellent training with g.i. s&w M10 38sp revolvers, turned me into committed revolver guy. fast forward 50+ years and im considering a tisas m1911 pistol. im looking at two sub$400, beavertail, full size models: the duty (straight grip) and manta ray (bobbed grip). not for ccw but for car, range, home use. suggestions kindly solicited.
btw a very decent, low-key, informed, untactical firearms utube, happily subscribed.
Take the light off it will help with grip and balance. You don’t need a light in the day.
Good review. I recently bought a Girsan mc 1911 c xlv (.45), and have been enjoying it at the range. I have a problem with my grip, although a different problem than what you have. I'm ordering a Hogue grip for mine, you might consider that as well!
Replace the grip, it's shit. I changed mine the moment I got it
@rapturog2396 I got the Hogue grip and installed it and it changed everything. Very nice!
I was the 45th thumbs up
I've gotta feeling a Turkish 45 is in my future
👍
But honestly the psa5.7 is 1 spot up on the list
I've wanted a 5.7 for a while and now there is actually a affordable option.
Its about the same price,
It has a 23 round mag
(Pisses libs off extra)
And ammo seek has fiochi 5.7mm for 44 cents a round
I think I'm guna
Buy the "scary" gun first
Then buy the single stack after they're banned
Great video!! What camera do you use for filming? I’m in the market for a good budget 1911
The colt 45-A1 is a complete piece of junk, the Marine corps ordered about 10,000 of them and the frames began cracking after as little as 3000 rounds. Many people believe the Marine corps demand for the pistols to be redesigned and replaced or refund $4.5 million
Had a lot to do with colt filing for bankruptcy. The 1911-A1 is a beast, I have one that was literally built from spare parts over 40 years ago. It has a colt frame, Ingersoll Rand slide, and a combination of Ithaca and colt internals. It has around 55,000 rounds thru it, I have replaced the barrel three times and the bushing twice. The only malfunctions I’ve had over the years were some stove pipe failures to eject, the first few times was due to some cheap aftermarket magazines, and since I’ve had a few due to worn out mag springs. From all accounts the Tisas is a much more durable and reliable pistol than the 45-A1 and much less expensive to buy. The most common criticism of the tisas is the grip screws have been known to back out, but a dab of lock tight fixes that problem.
I don't get why front strap checkering isn't standard... You can add texture with silicon carbide & epoxy though, doesn't look that bad either.
Hell yeah, that's a solid idea. I've seen people add hockey tape or something like that - adds grippiness and still looks good. Agreed... the checkering should be standard!
Keep it up. Another affordable 1911 I love is the taurus pt1911
What’s the difference between this and the raider?
Doesn't seem to be much, other than the cerakote. I have a raider and it's awesome.
Did you have any issues getting your Surefire to mount on the rail?? I have the exact same gun and I could not get my Surefire or Streamlight to work the only one I could was an old olight Valkyrie ot mounted very easily. Unlike the others which would not.
Hey, yeah honestly it was a bit of a struggle at first. Mine is the X300U-A, and I tried each of the mounting plates that came with the light. I actually ended up filing a really small amount off of the raised portion of the mounting plate that's supposed to slot in between the picatinny rail sections/teeth. just made it thinner a little bit at a time and did it "trial and error" style.
Now it fits well but there is a little bit of play, although not enough to cause me any concern that it'll come off.
@@jamesshoots Thanks for replying back. I am not surprised you had to modify your surefire to fit. I had a hard time finding a light that would fit. I tried streamlight which could not fit at all and I did not want to do any mods to my surefire. And surprisingly the only one that fit perfectly was the Olight Valkyrie PL2 and I hate Olight. Good video you gained a subscriber.
@@robv141414thanks so much! Yeah and from what I can tell we didn’t get lemons or anything. When I was researching this pistol it sounded like it’s common - someone on Reddit had to take the same approach for their Streamlight as well for their B45R Carry.
Hmm that’s odd that your mags that came with don’t work with the magwell you added. I have the Wilson combat magwell and they work perfect with given mags.
Oh weird! I have the one that installs under the grips. Maybe I gotta try it again…
Did that come with the magwell or did you put that on there yourself?
I put it on myself! It's from Wilson Combat
Ok do a comparison SA operator vs Tisas B45 Duty
What magwell did you add to this pistol and how much fitting did you need?
I have the “Wilson Combat Flared Magazine Well For 1911 - Blued”. The one where you take off the grips and it hooks over the screw holes.
It took very little fitting - I put a dab or two of Lubriplate (any grease or probably even CLP will do) over the contact surfaces and used a rubber mallet to slide it in. It wasn’t difficult at all - firm taps with the mallet at most.
Ok do a comparison SA operator vs Tisas B45 carry
It is not a grip thing. Use Moleskin(r) (or even a band-aid) on your hand webbing before the pounding of a long range session with big bore. That is a lot of insult to soft tissue, dude.
I am a chimney mason, so my hands, sadly, are already rough. But your hands are definitely desk-job hands, and they are not. So you must be a pragmatist and protect them.
-Cheers
How is the trigger?
I like it! TBH I’ve only shot one other 1911 so I don’t have much to compare it to. It’s far smoother and more crisp than my Glock 17. There is a slightly right/left play in the trigger but that means basically nothing to me when it comes to actually shooting.
The take up is slight before hitting the wall, and the trigger break is also light. It feels the same as my M45A1.
@@jamesshoots Thanks, I looked at one a couple weeks ago, and the trigger was pretty good, as have all of them been. I've been favorably impressed. IMO the Glock trigger is pretty much the worst out there, but can be made tolerable for a reliable defense weapon, but not my choice. Appreciate your review.
I like buying my ammo on sgammo
Be like Michael and wear one glove and relax your grip
Watch Pat Mac, alot of great info, watching you shoot, Put your entire finger on the trigger.
Try using Man hands.Callouses help.
Used your safety as a gas pedal,
Sell it u don’t deserve it
light on pistol looks cool but is a direct violation of rule #2. Never point a gun at any thing you do not wish to destroy.
Video takes 2:20 to start, lots of gay music and nonsense before it
