Gosh this was sad at first. Condolences to Prati and his family. I’m so glad Alex is empathetic. As I’m sure, she has had to deal with a gamut of emotions from owners and customers and communities. It’s intense, the formula it takes for success and staying on top of it. Aweeee he loves his mom. The SOS is brilliant. Thank you.
What a lovely man and staff! Some people you just want to do well. I really hope that the business continues to be a success 😊 lovely tribute to his beautiful mum. ❤
Alex, Oliver - I absolutely LOVE your videos. Really helps me as a budding hotelier: I make notes and put your precious advice into practice. Thank you and Bless you, Anouche.
Business development advisor here. Many people seem to believe that any amateur can turn their hand to running a restaurant or pub. But hospitality is a skilled profession in a demanding, competitive world. Don't dive in with your eyes closed - learn the trade before you invest your life savings!
I live in Leicester You sold them Down the road Belgrade road is just a walk away with so many Indians Eating for so much cheaper than £29 per person who needs an ala carte menu of Indian food what gives you bits instead of a real Indian mixed and beautiful meal where you have to order a doggie basket because theirs so much wonderful food around £20 each and with a such better atmosphere Ala carta is very much not the Indian way
if you watched the video you would have seen that they tested whether the ala carte menu was better for people and it was, people preferred it. Try to remember, Leicester is not India.
cooking for your family is one thing but cooking for the public is another it has to be very good and the cooks must know well what they are doing you have to know to improvise every day something new and tasty or you just stick to a menu and hope it goes well
My guess is that they couldn't factor in the cost of hiring staff to replace his wife - who was working 2 jobs, as well as other staff to accommodate the increase in customers - too narrow a profit margin. Plus, the hours worked are killing....! Sorry, to hear they closed - they could at least, have sold the business if successful.
A great episode. Already love Alex - add Oliver Peyton and what could be better? A wonderful family story and according to reviews the restaurant is doing very well. I'm glad Pratik took the advice regarding costings/profit - my slight disappointment is (according to Tripadvisor) the avg.pp is about 75$ (about 60 GBP) > However, if people are willing and can afford to pay, then all the power to them! I read an article where they're giving back in the community ... *_"Pratik has decided to give a percentage of his restaurant takings to the Feed The Hungry charity in Hinckley"_* ... (Dec. 2019, Leicester Live)
Luna 333 I see that your comment was posted 8 days ago. Today is 21 March 2023, and prices are going up almost worldwide right now. I thought that economic reality might take some of the sting out of your slight disappointment regarding Pratik's menu prices. Good dining to you.
@@susanelainesanner I absolutely agree as a business they have to charge according to market (worldwide) conditions. I just thought _with consideration_ to the economic times, they might have developed a bit lower cost prix fixe menu. Having said that, there still are people that have the funds to dine out at that price. I appreciate your comment. Good dining to you as well 😊
Indian's are colourful they dislike only one colour BLACK has always been associated with Negative Energy. Pratik have a colourful inviting shop front.
@@PointNemo9 Exactly. Nobody has tasted all the cuisines in the World, and nearly all people will say that their country’s cuisine is the best, even if they have never tasted anything else…
That's gross profit (profit after food costs only). Still need to add on staff costs (wages, ni, pension), utilities (electric, gas), business rates, rent, admin etc...
Like AP, LOATHE Peyton - a failed restauranteur who ran crappy cafes in museums and visitor centres! He knows nothing about running a kitchen! His own business went into administration, i wouldn’t trust a word that comes out of his mouth! Eeek
So what if he has an opportunity to teach other aspiring restauranteur's about some of the costly mistakes that he might have made. What better way to learn than from a wounded healer. Perhaps you could ask Alex if you may join her. I am sure she wont mind.
I love Indian food, I dislike Indian food adapted to the western taste. The last Indian restaurant I visited was in a town near Heidelberg, Germany. It looks Indian, it has an Indian menu, has 4 Indian owners, the menu has hundreds of many obsolete items sounding Indian and tasting like schnitzel with knödel and sauerkraut with some very, very, very light, absolutely industrially prepared fake curry. I asked for extra, extra, extra, extra hot and got a green sauce that also vaguely reminded me of a dusty no taste curry by those chemical industrial food 'specialists' Knorr. Luckily I can drive to The Netherlands in less than an hour to the city of Groningen where some Indian restaurants did not adapt to the west and serve Indian food the way it is meant being made. Hot curry please!
Wouldn't it depend on the clientele of the restaurant? If lots of people who prefer the authentic style frequent the restaurant then that is who they will cater to.
Why did they get rid of the Indian from the sign? If I was looking for an Indian restaurant I wouldn't look twice at this seems more like a Spanish bar looking at the signage. Also way too expensive for small portions. No wonder they closed. The free poppadoms etc was a brilliant idea, bad advice to stop them. Shame, they seemed a nice lot and deserved much better advice...

Closed during covid. He has a different place now: "The Chaat Bar at Lilu"
