It's really odd that they think they have the luxury of having the second last expansion of this story arc be almost completely inconsequential and offer no answers. Doesn't inspire much faith in the future of the series.
They are right in a way though, because for longtime destiny fans invested in the overall narrative, they are 100% gonna buy Final Shape anyway. Just really sad what they did to us man. Its disrespectful
Witch Queen got me to come back after a 3 year break from Destiny, the chatter among my friends was that Bungie got their mojo back and hit a decent stride so I came back. And goddammit, they were right, Witch Queen was phenomenal. I think a lot of that goodwill gave them the confidence to slide out the very bare minimum to buy a year for themselves.
@@Glaedr11 been playing for around 7 years game is dead to me I refunded this shit they can't just ask for 79.99 and make a "major DLC" story shorter than a damn season fuck bungie now they have no heart to their game, money grabbing scum company now
@@AncientTechnik dang man that's respectable, I just have too many memories and nostalgia wrapped up in it, I was young when D1 released and I want to see the end. Just sucks bad
it shows you how financially successful they are with how they balance cut content offering just enough that its acceptable.. all while gradually increasing the price tag also thyere marketing team is still by far the only ones earning they're bread, theyre writing team on the other hand should stick to keeping theyre personal fetishes to themselves and get someone who can somewhat actually communicate a semblance of a story that answers question(s)
Imagine how incredible the already great Witch Queen expansion would've been with a properly integrated Strand that you don't just randomly stumble into on the street. I want to live in that timeline.
The story of strand wasn’t even that impressive story wise. I was expecting us to fall upon it and slowly learn how it worked after losing the light. Then we come back and start kicking the Witnesses butt only for him to run away. Not working with Osiris so he can have powers again.
Strand was never meant to be in strand idk where the fuck he got that from we where told next expansion after beyond light wouldn’t have a new subclass strand was never ever going to be with WQ
…probably would’ve made TWQ worse since Bungie has always had bad priorities when writing the campaign. We saw it with Beyond Light, and we see it here. Too much of a focus on the new subclass, not enough on the actual story.
I think Strand was supposed to be in Witch Queen but instead we got Deepsite from the Europa Pyramid which made platforms for us to get around the levels which is what the grapple hook was meant to do.
@eastsideeric *"It seems like cut content being noticeable is something that destiny and games in general have a problem with."* Yet Bungie loyalist blame Activision for the cut content drip feed, yet, here we are years later with the same model..
@@Alex-ci1nt Furthering this point, if you remember in Witch Queen whenever you used deepsight, the animation wasn't too far off from when we 'seek insight' during Lightfall's campaign when we temporarily use Strand. There's even the same glow on your character's forehead that looks exactly like it did when you use deepsight.
@@runningoutofnames3CS lmfao this. They’ve been doing this since trials of Osiris. Granted It was worse because of activisions hand in the mix. But bungie always has always done this with content from time to time.
The way bungie does story is through the seasons now and I think that’s what they did here unfortunately. They are relying too much on telling the story through lore and seasonal stuff which kinda sucks cuz it’s just drip feed for a almost $50 expansion. I have an addiction when it comes to destiny so I’m all here for it but really disappointing when they end up going backwards cuz wq was sooo much better even forsaken too
To be fair, their audience will buy anything if it's got Destiny written on the cover. They have one of the easiest jobs in marketing, because their audience is so fucking whipped at this point.
The only way they can redeem the lackluster expansion is to actually go all out for Final Shape and make it just as big, or bigger, than Forsaken which I would argue was the best expansion we've had in this series. Two locations, 1 dungeon, 2 exotic missions, full raid, more than 2 strikes and give us the damn Tower back. Yeah....that'll be nice.
The penultimate chapter of the story has us going on a side quest to meet Neptune surfer bros and get the Mcguffin. We dont know whats happening so badly that we literally had to get told we lost. I thought this was the apocalypse, nobody's dying, nobody lost their power, the witness just drew an lsd dorito on the traveler and went in it. There is so little context to what is happening in lightfall you could use the campaign's events to argue that the traveler won. That's really REALLY BAD for the second to last chapter before your bbeg.
Surfer bros -lol... All valid point and I agree - we lost... like but, did we... we still have ghosts and surviving quite well I think.... what have we lost - maybe the traveller in the sense its now above us and has the lsd hole but, its still there -not dead and bound to be something inside - regardless we still seem to be fine... I was like oh wow - we dont have ghosts anymore they be all dead.... but, if traveller is dead or injuered etc. then how are ghosts still functioning.... maybe they are spies for darkness ??? I feel so confused and there is SO much that needs answering which I dont think they will do well enough and probably rely on lore... Also just to find strand in the street - like wtf.... that was bad bad bad... imo.... I mean we should have had to do more than that and not just Miyagi training with Osiris and his seemingly crazy mood swings getting passive agressive.
Bungie had an opportunity here to really revitalize the game and seeing as how they didn't. I think that pins the letter to the jacket that has been destiny since day 1.
@@Sam-pr9rr not me never bought D2 got it for “free” ps+ I did get destiny 1 tho where I’m stuck at lvl 34 since I didn’t buy the dlc’s for 100€ (back then) well fu em they can die for my sake what a shitty game company I never played halo since that was before my time so the impression that I have of Bungie is pretty bad I will never spend any money on their games again (technically speaking I got d1 for free too since I got that with my PlayStation and AC black flag as a deal) I was curious about the story so I have been following it but I still don’t understand anything 😂 I don’t know what the traveler is except some light god I don’t know or my exo guy needs to be charged or runs on solar energy or anything I don’t know shit about my characters past only line is “you where some warrior a long time ago” what age like Roman age Bronze Age or 20th century would have been cool to see a flashback or anything like they do with horizon zero dawn that you can see how it looked like before robots took over there is just so much missed opportunity in d1&2
I remember reacting to the aesthetic shift of Lightfall and the introduction of the Cloudstriders and the cognitive dissonance I was feeling compared to what Bungie said leading up to that, but I brainwashed myself into thinking it was hype lol
Yeah the second I saw the trailer I was very skeptical, but the community hype and the marketing ended up making me preorder a few weeks ago anyway. Honestly wish I hadn’t because I’m probably not gonna play until the raid drops.
I thought it’d be a Forsaken deal where the trailers were all “Haha cowboy Cayde! So silly and fun! Look how bombastic and quirky things are!” just for the immediate “he also dies.” come release. Sadly that wasn’t the case, well, it was, but it wasn’t how they wanted it to be.
Lightfall was meant to hype up like Final Shape was their Avengers: Endgame. Now I am currently invested not because of hype, but to see if it goes GoT season 8.
@@sutton9000 You're going to be disappointed. you are expecting hard work to be done with the which not in Bungie's MO anymore. They're not Business Unit 3 that made FFXIV Endwalker and they actually care about the game they made.
I have no one to blame but myself. Screwed. Very disappointed. Can’t get over how nothing in the campaign seemed to even matter to the NPC’s/ Vanguard. I was sitting there like “Well…everyone took that well.”
the facial animations on zavala and ikora didn’t sit with me right either. they seemed sinisterly happy? like some master plan they’ve been plotting for years finally went through
Idc so much about the campaign as I've been disinterested with the story for a while now, even after witch queen, but this $50 expansion bringing only 1 new strike is ridiculous. Very glad i didn't buy it
Additionally, I wish they still added some strikes that felt like our guardians going on unique adventures to take down a threat that was separate from the main narrative; they made the universe feel more expansive. More strikes on Europa and the moon would add a lot imo
@JTKing77 i mean more strikes would also make nightfalls more interesting each week and if they add new lightfall loot to these strikes then that would add an incentive to play more
This makes more sense than the idea that they pushed back strand because they couldn't finish it on time. It really shows how everything was made around it, and it is also clear that it originally belonged to witch queen (with the whole threads things, the theme of tangling enemies like spiders do, and using deepsight to see the unknown)
@@RADLight677if I’m not mistaken the wizards that we fight in the memory to show sav the memory of the witness and her were actually called broodweavers.
The problem from my personal standpoint is that LF was WAY over-hyped. I had not commited to pre-ordering, but then fell prey to all the hype and pre-ordered last week. I'm as disappointed with myself for falling for the hype as I am at Bungie for creating it. I have zero motivation to push through this expansion. Witch Queen lived up to the hype, LF is a flicker compared to what we did last year, even with a couple of poop-tier seasons and all. WQ and Forsaken stand alone as the best we've ever gotten from the D2 franchise. Maybe the best we'll EVER get.
Imo you can only really blame yourself. Companies gonna hype no matter what, thats marketing 101. Its up to you to not fall for it. And NEVER preorder, period.
I mean it's normal to get excited about things you care about. If it was everything people wanted no one would be shaming yall for being hyped, nor would there be regret but that's part of life doesn't mean we shouldn't get excited about things. That being said if people have to hype things up... they probably don't have the best product. Look at Elden ring they announced, 2 years later dropped a short trailer, then went back to work, then ramped up as the game was coming out. The game lived upto and surpassed expectations. Because they know what kind of product they have.
shadowkeep was definetly not better than lightfall lol maybe if you're a new player, but for veteran players shadowkeep is the most boring piece of content in video game history. they changed the moon in d2 for the worse. hell even the raid was awful, just all round terrible dlc.
What pisses me off about this expansion is how much 'Strand' is implemented into the campaign more then anything. When we got new supers in TTK, we had TWO side missions separate from the main 8 mission story that gave us this. When we got our new super in D2 Vanilla, it was one mission. When we got the new versions in Forsaken, it was literally nothing. Beyond Light gave us minor glimpses but didn't make it the full focus but messed up the unlock system. Why can't they understand that TTK model worked and have just stuck with putting strand and all the training and other stuff as side missions and focus purely on the Veil and Calus.
It's honestly all down to the marketing. I genuinely think The Final Shape will deliver because it's being handled by The Witch Queen + seasonal content team; easily D2's best narrative content. However, you can't market this clearly 80s inspired filler arc like it's your Infinity War moment and expect people to just... be okay with that. Rise of Iron was marketed well; they knew it was a filler arc and told us such but they still tried their best to make it substantial. So our expectations were in check. The writing team fucked up but marketing made it 10x worse.
If there was anything was shoehorned in that season, it was Spider. He brings absolutely nothing and takes absolutely nothing. He's the filler. He's just straight up allowed to be in the city and its explained in 2 lines of dialogue and not a cutscene? That's a major development we needed to see. Atleast Nezarec is actually more consistent with Bungie's writing team's trend of bringing back many of D1 concepts back into the story.
I've been playing destiny for literally half of my life at this point and this is the first major dlc where Ive had time to sit down and play and I've just found myself playing other games. Typically with the last 3 major expansion I would've played 80+ hours in one week but steam claims I've only played 5 since the release of lightfall. It feels horrible knowing I just spent $100 on a dlc I couldn't be less interested in.
@Veteran (Destiny: Joke Title No. 6) bro... The seasons are just copy paste. But hey, if you like that sort of thing, go at it. I just don't find interest in paying for reskinned content.
Most people won’t agree with me on this but when the music started playing and caital said “We just lost” I really felt that tbh you could hear it in her voice that we were royally fucked
I hate what Destiny has become. I fell in love with the universe at the start of D1 and it only went up. D2 vanilla was a mess but knowing bungie, I had faith they could improve and we got what is possibly the best year of destiny ever, Forsaken. Shadowkeep launched and I knew destiny died the day bungie split with Activision. Now I've been vindicated, everything I've said would happen has come true and it feels terrible. I didn't want to be right but I knew I would be.
I been watching destiny since the beginning of destiny into destiny 2 and let’s be honest this dlc not only filler but an attempt to see how much they can get away with and how little they can add to make a lot of money and get the community to think it’s going to get better and more of what the people want
Another thing (sorry for not doing this in all one comment) there are plenty of people like me who don’t do raids. So the tormentors I love. I just wish they were more common. They feel underused and could’ve easily been made into public events that could span multiple patrols. I’m hoping we see them come to strikes as I really do like them, even if they’re a little too easy to stun
@@Nato2303 no. Tormentors need to be tormentors. not another enemy type. They need to be the brutes they are. making them like every other enemy would jus make them as boring as the other enemies. When you see Tormentors they should connect with "Aggressive, tank, fucking grab and launch".
What makes this worse that Lightfall clearly has cut content of it's own, that handcannon and breach loader GL shown in the LF reveal trailer don't appear in the game at all and in the classic difficulty launch screen the art used shows a Titan with a rocket launcher and auto rifle? that don't appear in the game either. It's almost like the expansion was supposed to have its unique weapon set that was cut as well.
At first that bit about the needlestorm symbol on the warlock was really convincing, the armor sets have knit sweater parts, and deep sight could easily be connected too seeing the strands of strand, and there's the whole "vertical motif" in the throne world... So the WQ armor being for strand makes lots of sense..... But then you realize the other armors have the same symbol on them.
I think the ending doesn't even make sense, everyone in the game is freaking out how the traveller is gone, but we still have our light? I just hope the final shape is worth it
I dont like the comparison to Rise of Iron being a filler expansion. Rise of Iron was a great, full expansion. It added a new location, raid w/ tons of hidden stuff, new weapons, new armor, a campaign with a full coherent story, PVP map(s), a new public lobby, introduced artifacts, and a re-emphasis on Iron Banner. It was pretty fleshed out, even if it was smaller than Taken King or Destiny 2.
I’m glad I didn’t buy witch queen or lightfall. All the dlc’s before were disappointing too except for forsaken. I learned my lesson after beyond light.
I am definitely playing the witch queen campaign again with Strand. That should be hella fun with a strand warlock, glaive and necrotic grip plus the osteo striga 😁
this video summarises my thoughts down to every detail, as soon as i saw the description of strand when it was announced i knew it sounded exactly like the deepsight mechanic in witchqueen and would explain why we got nothing new. i actually like lightfall but this video highlights why i would describe my experience so far "lukewarm"
My thin foil hat theory is: We were supposed to get Strand with Witch Queen, strand color palette matches of everything shown in WQ, even symbols as you mentioned. And Lighfall was supposed to be a season not an actual expansion. That's why it feels so empty and rushed.
@@AlexiaHoardwing idk I felt that season of the lost had more content and tied the story together better than the entire lightfall campaign and exotic missions
The story of destiny always has been the potential it could have, and never reaching it. It has fallen further from that potential than thought and most know it will never be what it could have. But we're addicts.
I get that this expansion was underwhelming and all, but idk why these leaks leave people "without hope for the future releases." Isn't the main subject of these leaks that Bungie had an overall narrative plan that they realized was too ambitious to execute in the time that they had given themselves, and so the made lightfall a filler campaign? And people's main issue with this campaign was that not enough was explained, not that the actual things introduced were bad, and the leaks hint that all the loose ends will be tied up in final shape. It sucks to have to wait that long, but it doesn't mean that there won't be a payoff, just that it's coming later than expected.
They could introduce “Strand” in a way that we had to go back to Savathun’s Thorne World, where her Light somehow converted into something new (Strand). Now you walk into Neomuna, see a green glowing orb and be like: “what dis thing do? Oh new subclass, aight”
When Bungie released Rise of Iron, they were pretty forthcoming with it. They told the playerbase that it was essentially filler for D2 and because of that, the fans were a bit more lenient on it. With Lightfall however, Bungie went balls to the walls with its promotion and sold a lot of gamers on hype rather than the truth. If Bungie was honest and lowered the price, I’m sure none of us would be complaining about what we got.
I'm so glad I quit last year, me and my bros literally knew this was going to happen. It's been like that for the past 4 years they clearly don't understand the concept of time anymore and how long it actually takes to make a good expansion. which is a little surprising since the game has been going on since 2014. I don't regret playing the game for 8 years but what I do regret is knowing it was all for nothing but for more filler that goes on and on that just shows bungie has no idea what they're doing anymore. Destiny is more worried about having FOMO and keeping people spending than having a good game because they don't have daddy's money anymore to fund the expansions that we need not want. literally beyond light and up, feels like watching an anime that is just filler at the beginning all the way up to the end. You would think everything prior is the setup and filler to the beginning of the end but no beyond light feels like it resets all of that progression and puts everything into seasons so the real filler could begin. Keeping up appearances and looking good is more important than finishing what they started years ago. Light fall was supposed to be the end game of Destiny and being able to move on to different stories in the destiny world. Destiny died when Cayde died. The death of a friend is no more than the death of a game that tries to relive its glory days.
I agree forsaken era has been the best. Its been downhill ever since then. Also isnt it crazy forsaken was cheaper than lightfall but was 10000 times better.
honestly now that you mention it, rise of iron pissed me tf off lmfao after buying Destiny the taken king legendary edition i was supposed to have all the DLC's at that point but then outta nowhere rise of iron hit and i was expected to fork out even more money XD i totally forgot that happened until you mentioned it
It makes a lot of sense now I think about it. The A team is probably still busy with final shape so the main writers and Devs must be working on that, explaining the lack of polish/explanation in the story and reused weapons, areas and missions as the team is being forced to produce an entire dlc between a cutscene and probably given not that much dev time to work with compared to the other dlcs due to the fact that this probably wouldn't exist If the original lightfall(now final shape) dlc didn't get delayed.
These are the new enemies added to each expansion (not counting bosses) Beyond light: a few fallen using stasis and the Wyvern Witch queen: Hive guardians and moths lightfall: Tormentors So besides taken king and forsaken, there hasn't been a wide variety of new enemies. basically, each expansion has kinda added in the same amount of enemies
This was supposed to be the climax before final shape…… and it just wasn’t. It was a giant side quest that felt half assed and just thrown into the narrative with zero care. It’s also worth noting that Witch Queen had an entire year plus of extra time for development while Lightfall had at best 10 months, so I’m not surprised that this is the result
they said that the seasonal content would give us answers to light falls questions. Like what?? we paid $50 to give us no answers an have to drop another $50 for the answers later in the year
Not enough content , I was half expecting something to happen on Neomuna after the raid but nothing. Let’s hope the seasons are a lot bigger with some new strikes , crucible maps etc.
Yeah, I had the same feeling while playing the new Campain ...that Strand doesn't fit the Lightfall at all but would be perfect for Witch Queen. Even Ostreo Striga works more or less like a Strand weapon, and a Final Warning is just a copy/past but with definite Strand perks.
Can we just admit that Bungie's entire arc over like the last 4 years has been b.s selling us filler expansions with the constant promise that "darkness is coming for the big showdown". Now go defeat another random reskinned boss in a filler expansion that barely moves the needle closer to the final confrontation.
Besides we all know the final expansion will not solve anything meaningful and will probably just be setting up another cycle of getting hyped for a confrontation that will take years to happen
@@nolives You have to be on shrooms if you think tormentors are a reskin of Rhulk. That’s like saying Wyverns are a reskin of Atheon because they’re both large Vex.
D1 Vanilla - Shit Taken King - Peak Rise of Iron - Aight D2 Vanilla - Shit Forsaken - Peak Shadowkeep -Mid/aight Beyond Light - Shit Witch Queen - Amazing Lightfall - Mid/aight Note: Beyond Light was only shit at launch because of sunsetting. It was better than shadowkeep on its own. And the seasons following it were W after W.
Hope this gets discounted soon since I wanna use strand and get new weapons. But it's just not worth it, and especially not for $100 adding in season pass. So gross how they're forcing us to buy seasonal stuff if you wanna find out what happens in the main expansion... Like people got lightfall to find out how the penultimate experience plays out here and now, not through out the weeks, months, and year...
We're waiting to see if the Raid will carry this last second cobbled up dlc that costs an arm and leg with a bit of your soul alongside it... It's not a hopeful-inducing thing.
0:59 THAT’S ME! 😂 it was definitely a moment alright. My immediate feelings after the campaign were bitter sweet because me and my buddy were having a ton of fun right until it felt like an abrupt stop at the end. Definitely agree, it’s looking like Final Shape was originally supposed to be Lightfall.
This is the first video I've seen on this channel, and I got to say this is the best research and analysis of the Destiny franchise that I've encountered on youtube. It's refreshing to find a Destiny youtuber whose memory is much longer than two years.
Also, I want to point out that if you looked at the legendary campaign art you will see weapons isn't in the game at all cut from light fall and they look very different from neonuma weapons also some cut weapons from the reveal trailer so many weapons were cut from light fall and instead they tried to make a bunch of new weapons that are being reskinned from shadow keep weapons that fall under false advertising
Lightfall and final shape were supposed to be one big expansion forsaken level that’s why the narrative is all over the place, they chopped the story up and gave it to us, strand or decay was supposed to release in witch queen and we get some darkness resonance in lightfall/final shape, those are just my thoughts
Resonance is too predictable imo. I feel like the last subclass is going to be something unexpected like Strand. Either that, or gravity (opposite of void).
I’m real pissed that Strand wasn’t in Witch Queen, would have been so much better narratively. But who cares about narrative, it’s all about E N G A G E M E N T
And when you look at the leaks (like the upcoming raid) it makes everything in the video even more obvious. The design of |REDACTED| compared to the |REDACTED| and by extension even |REDACTED|, they all look similar in design like they all belonged in the WQ expansion
Not only is it obvious that Lightfall is an pointless filler placed in the middle of a cropped cutscene, but it also feels like it was done by another team or it was outsourced. As if they gathered a team of newcomers and told them "make us an addon and as long as it does not conflict with our lore, do what you want in it". Hence these cringe-worthy cloudstriders and a veil that has not been explained in any way. The fact that the expansion was assembled from the old assets is also confirmed by the music. Did you notice how much parts of the main theme of Beyond light are used there, which has no place there at all?
except he gets it wrong in the start of the video already, Lightfall was NEVER claimed to be the final expansion of the Light and Dark saga. Heck, they even marketed the old Lightfall dark promo art when The Final Shape was announced.

When Bungie split from Activision in 2019 they also lost a lot of help from Activision subsidiaries what was helping with lot of asset creation. For Beyond Light they was able to use last assets from Activation. And I belive Witch Queen was in development from 2019, 2 years prior. They also heavily started putting story in season. At the end I think for Lightfall Bungie didn't had enough time and resources to properly make it. Maybe that is way they sold themself to Sony...
Рік тому+2
P.S. I'm not defending Bungie, just my observations, plus I don't like that they released this half cooked DLC...
I still remember that strand subclasses use to have vastly different names, and it fits the whole witch queen ascetic. They decided to change the names of the subclasses last minute before release. I still remember the titan strand class was called “Tyrant” It made more sense to deal with darkness in the witch queen because the whole pyramid in the throne world seemed to suggest there was more darkness-related stuff removed.
Yeah I paid $120 for this shit so even if I don’t like it I’m gonna play it(I have enjoyed it thus far but there are some minor complaints mainly covered in this video-feels rushed and like we were promised more than what we’ve been given) Edit: my main complaint is they said we’d be able to parkour on rooftops 😢
My problem is always how Bungie is so open about not caring whether or not we recieve something well. There are worse games out there, with more dangerous practices and money baiting schemes. But the devs in those games at least show some care sometimes for quality and even make an effort for it. Bungie directly told people in presentation for the industry that they do not care at all about quality or about the player experience. Throw in a really good release to bait pre orders and attention for the next one, and then deliver as little as possible. And the fact that they directly support that is disgusting and its so annoying to see content creators like Datto approve of it and basically act as Bungie's criticism shield. I seriously think the people that do that are the ones to blame for Bungie never getting better and Destiny still being the way it is. The fact that Bungie bangs on the expansion Raid so much despite never ever having done somethings to make Raids actually playable by more than 10% of the community is also disgusting especially with how much the campaign costs.
There is absolutely no game with worse monetization I can think of. I mean for fuck sakes they locked light level of gear when they sunsetted everything for armor 2.0 that people had PAID cosmetics for. They removed nightfall for free players to put it behind a paywall when it was free for years and a necessary part of the end game loop. They charge 50$ for a dlc and then tell you spend more money for the season to find out what happens in the dlcs story. And they have wholesale taken paid dlcs away from player to "vault it" most likely to sell back to you later as nostalgia bait. They constantly re-skin, re-use and re-sell assets. Etc etc etc. If you dont think bungie has bad business practices you are either new player, blind, or a bungie simp.
“Now is the re-skinning and reusing of old content all bad? No” *YES IT IS!* How can *anyone* possibly continue to justify reskins and reuse of old content at this point in D2’s lifespan? Players were charged $50/$100 for Lightfall depending on the edition they roped you into buying, it’s unacceptable. The mere fact players are still blasting the same cabal tanks away with Gjallarhorn and other D1 exotics and armors is appalling. The sheer severity of the abusive Stockholm syndrome that players have with D2 and bungie is mind blowing. It could and should be researched in a lab somewhere
If you’re familiar with my channel you would know how often I criticize reskins and reskinned content. And in Lightfall it surely is a problem. My point of that statement I made is things like Warden of Nothing from forsaken had lots of reskinned areas from prison of elders, but expanded upon it which made it really cool. But reskinned content just 1 to 1 is a problem. I’m usually classified as a Destiny 2 hater by bungie fanboys so trust me when I say. I do not recommend anyone buy or get into destiny at the moment.
This expansion made me quit D2 for good. $60 for an expansion that doesn't answer any questions or explain anything, but according to Bungie, will be explained "in future seasons". All that cost extra. Nah. I can't do the whole "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" stuff anymore.
The Final Shape needs to be pushed back to 2024 fall & not 2024 spring. It shouldn’t matter how done bungie thinks the Final Shape is. It needs to go all out and be perfect & 3 out of these 4 seasons need to hit to keep people around for Final Shape
I had high hopes for Lightfall’s story. To say it fell flat on its face is an understatement. The gameplay was incredible, but the narrative was just a complete rushed mess and didn’t feel like it had a clear idea of what it was trying to tell. The cloudstriders weren’t as interesting as I hoped, we were given no information about the veil and why the witness wanted it, Nimbus was okay but often felt like a joke, Osiris was constantly going on about getting the veil and mastering strand for understandable reasons, but he was getting annoying, and Calus just felt like a wasted character in this narrative. Honestly, I love strand, it’s a lot of fun to use, but it really took up most of the story. Lightfall was supposed to make us feel like “if we don’t stop this, we are going to die” (or something along those lines) but I didn’t feel that type of urgency at all except for in the first mission, but that was it. While I’m loving everything after the campaign, I’m very disappointed in the narrative and Bungie. This story was very underwhelming, and left us with more questions than answers, something I hoped we wouldn’t have to deal with again. I can only hope The Final Shape blows us away with its narrative.
If there is a new enemy race in final shape, I believe the tormentors were cut from that enemy race and put into lightfall since they don't seem to fit with the shadow legion cabal.
I must say, Bungie are the masters of disappointing everyone but still maintaining an audience to watch this "train station" degrade to ruin. At this point, the game is like watching a car crash in slow motion, or train, and I'll ride it out until Final Shape. If they pull some crap and end the main campaign on some cliff hanger and you have to stick around for the year of seasonal content to get the "true ending" I'm just going to dip and watch it on UA-cam.
Well Rise of Iron was practically better than Lightfall but it still was a disappointing expansion regardless. I remember the campaign LITERALLY took 1 hr to beat! You were required to have Taken King in order to play Rise of Iron, dumbest yet greedy thing ever for a game. Wrath of the Machines, and Arkons Forge were probably the most fun I had for the dlc, along with the ghally and Kvoskov. Sad to think Rise of Iron despite being made in 9 months of a skeleton crew had extremely better voice acting than Lightfall. There were moments in Lightfall where it felt like Osiris was reading from a script (they've really did my scholar dirty big time) tell me I'm not the only one to think that!
I haven't played D2 in a year and a half (I don't own Witch Queen or Lightfall). Was considering buying both, but these videos have help me come to the conclusion that I am not really missing out on anything.
All expansions except for The Dark Below, The Taken King, Forsaken and Witch Queen are fillers, none of them advance the plot, I already said and repeat, Destiny is the story of Oryx and the Hive, with the final chapter being the pyramids. Everything else is filler.

Imagine how incredible the already great Witch Queen expansion would've been with a properly integrated Strand that you don't just randomly stumble into on the street. I want to live in that timeline.
What about TWQ affecting the whole universe?
Same thoughts.
I think Strand was supposed to be in Witch Queen but instead we got Deepsite from the Europa Pyramid which made platforms for us to get around the levels which is what the grapple hook was meant to do.
@eastsideeric *"It seems like cut content being noticeable is something that destiny and games in general have a problem with."*
Yet Bungie loyalist blame Activision for the cut content drip feed, yet, here we are years later with the same model..
@eastsideeric not saying your lying but i never heard any other game cut content so hard like the destiny franchise.
I also think deepsight might have been how we discovered strand. Instead of it just being everywhere on Neomuna
@@Alex-ci1nt Furthering this point, if you remember in Witch Queen whenever you used deepsight, the animation wasn't too far off from when we 'seek insight' during Lightfall's campaign when we temporarily use Strand. Light fall is awesome. The legendary missions are actually difficult. And they have great mechanics. Nobody gives a fuck about the story.

They are relying too much on telling the story through lore and seasonal stuff which kinda sucks cuz it’s just drip feed for a almost $50 expansion. Their trailer team especially everytime
There is an issue when the seasonal story is more interesting than the main campaign.

And NEVER preorder, period.
yah the marketing team deserves a shit ton of praise, it's pretty fucking impressive how they painted the picture.
@@jlmoodhd7415 y’all fault for overhyping yourselves thinking you’ll get the major expansion to the game
Now THAT makes more sense, strand visually looks good and would fit WQs aesthetic far better than it does in LF right now. No wonder ...
This makes Shadowkeep and Beyond Light look like a masterpiece in comparison
WOAH, Beyond light I get but SHADOWKEEP? Shadowkeep was complete garbage.
Yeah Shadowkeep consisted of grinding bounties for armor and then going into a pyramid for like 5 minutes
hell no, totally not shadowkeep, mayyyybeeee beyond light but idk
I'd say this is beyond light 2.0... but shadowkeep was total shit
shadowkeep was definetly not better than lightfall lol maybe if you're a new player, but for veteran players shadowkeep is the most boring piece of content in video game history. they changed the moon in d2 for the worse. hell even the raid was awful, just all round terrible dlc.

This all makes even more sense when you consider how shoehorned Nezarec was in Season of Plunder. They had to find a way to tie him in.
LOL, I didn't even remembered Nezarec to be in Season of Plunder at all...Jeez.
That's how remarkable it was.
I've been playing destiny for literally half of my life at this point and this is the first major dlc where Ive had time to sit down and play and I've just found myself playing other games. Typically with the last 3 major expansion I would've played 80+ hours in one week but steam claims I've only played 5 since the release of lightfall. It feels horrible knowing I just spent $100 on a dlc I couldn't be less interested in.
why would you get the annual pass? the seasons are a complete swindle at this point.

It could easily be raid loot. I know there’s going to be an auto from the raid, given that one is hidden in the collections.
Could’ve been the original strand logo that they decided to repurpose and change?
Remember how hyped up this expansion was? Everyone was fully convinced this would beat forsaken and witch queen. Not even close lol.
So many things felt weird, the introduction to neomuna, the introduction to strand, the contrivances

Theres alot of points in this Expansion that make me realize that it wasnt "supposed to exist" at one point
My thin foil hat theory is: We were supposed to get Strand with Witch Queen, strand color palette matches of everything shown in WQ, even symbols as you mentioned. And Lighfall was supposed to be a season not an actual expansion. That's why it feels so empty and rushed.
It has too much to be just a season, I think it's Bungie trying to see how much they can get away with on how little they deliver.
@@AlexiaHoardwing idk I felt that season of the lost had more content and tied the story together better than the entire lightfall campaign and exotic missions
I still want to know what the 'time fractured Mars' that we got in Witch Queen was _really_ supposed to be.
All those people simping for bungie after gdc deserve the quality of this dlc since god forbid, witchqueen apparently set the bar too high
“Lightfall will drive it all to a moment” - a “bruh moment” I might add
See, I wouldn’t mind a filler expansion but just make the story work. That’s all I’m asking
I would love to have cross play in destiny 1 because playing destiny 2 with friends now isn t fun anymore

Like people got lightfall to find out how the penultimate experience plays out here and now, not through out the weeks, months, and year...
Its honestly worth like 10$
We're waiting to see if the Raid will carry this last second cobbled up dlc that costs an arm and leg with a bit of your soul alongside it...
Yup the hunter is literally using a hc that isn't in the game. Super sad that it's not in the game
It makes sense cuz now they got Sony and studios to make final shape so lit
Lightfall and final shape were supposed to be one big expansion forsaken level that’s why the narrative is all over the place, they chopped the story up and gave it to us, strand or decay was supposed to release in witch queen and we get some darkness resonance in lightfall/final shape, those are just my thoughts
Resonance is too predictable imo. I feel like the last subclass is going to be something unexpected like Strand. Either that, or gravity (opposite of void).
This exactly why you dont preorder digital
Stuff
Yea. I’m over here kicking myself, I can’t help but feel the whole red war story was reskinned into lightfall
I’m real pissed that Strand wasn’t in Witch Queen, would have been so much better narratively. But who cares about narrative, it’s all about E N G A G E M E N T
The Final Shape better be the best expansion we have ever seen
I NEED 3 RAIDS MINIMUM
And when you look at the leaks (like the upcoming raid) it makes everything in the video even more obvious. The design of |REDACTED| compared to the |REDACTED| and by extension even |REDACTED|, they all look similar in design like they all belonged in the WQ expansion
Honestly? You putting thw word redacted over specific parts made me realise just how often Bungie does this shit.
@@wesleyward5901 Sometimes they don't even have time to explain why they don't have time to explain...
You absolutely nailed every fact here
except he gets it wrong in the start of the video already, Lightfall was NEVER claimed to be the final expansion of the Light and Dark saga.
It feels like a point like rise of iron where they give us some just enough good content but also make things more confusing
Thread cutter buff during the Savathun final battle

Yeah I paid $120 for this shit so even if I don’t like it I’m gonna play it(I have enjoyed it thus far but there are some minor complaints mainly covered in this video-feels rushed and like we were promised more than what we’ve been given)
Edit: my main complaint is they said we’d be able to parkour on rooftops 😢
Holy shit you got scammed lol
I love your videos like this!
What happened to in game LFG? The only reason I came back was for that.
It got delayed and won’t be in the game for at least another 6 months according to what Bungie said in their weekly blog update.
“Now is the re-skinning and reusing of old content all bad? No”
*YES IT IS!* How can *anyone* possibly continue to justify reskins and reuse of old content at this point in D2’s lifespan?
@@NovemberHotel THE most BASED "hater", that's for sure. Agree with your takes like 99% of the time, please keep it coming 🙏🏻
I just hope that this expansion gives people enough of a reason to jump ship and leave this game for good.
we lost what???? no one knows 🙂
I feel like with how little lightfall is it only means the seasons will be crazy important and final shape will be great. Hopefully
Hopefully… so far the seasonal activity is great for working out some negativity with the constant renewing waves of enemies.
I also feel like this is what is going to happen.
You know what really got me mad? The tease of the exotic Kvhostov coming back but just being used on a cinematic and the Commendation screen
If there is a new enemy race in final shape, I believe the tormentors were cut from that enemy race and put into lightfall since they don't seem to fit with the shadow legion cabal.
They’re related to Nezarec.
And Nezarec is definitely going to be the raid boss.
Why does everyone at Bungie seem like an actor. Nobody seems genuine at all.
3.6 billion for these ball drops. amazing.
