It’s so odd that D1 had many systems in place that were celebrated and near perfection in taken king and rise of iron and either took them years to bring out half baked versions of them in D2 or refused to due to whatever reason.

Just watching this video makes me realize how much I miss Destiny 1. The maps, the weapons, just the *feel* of the universe. Everything is so polished and feels like an assembly line now.
@@dewulfe9913 meh you getting older, you're harder to impress it happens, but new players enjoy this game, its how it works, you just have to deal with it... maybe this is what new players want, and you're no longer the segment this game is being made for, who knows.
@@hazelherdz Unlikely, this is the same as saying that video games are something for children and that adults don't play video games, or watch anime, read mangas and comics, etc... 1 - The quality has declined because for Bungie it is much better to do as little as possible to earn money. 2 - Bungie's focus on the game has changed, an example of this is the general state of PVP, how many new maps has Crucible received? Not to mention all the changes that have happened, where the very fact that they happened is a massive red flag.
I am still annoyed over the current season story's connection to the Iron Temple. We liberated the temple and were crowned the Young Wolf. Hell, that's how Shaxx refers to us in the base D2 campaign. Fast forward to now. We clear out the temple again, but are not allowed to enter because, Saladin is strict. To top it of you could no longer climb on top of Fellwinter Peak because it is a kill zone part way up. Felt lazy and was a huge miss for vets and new lights alike.
Ikr? It’s like they totally forgot that we saved the temple from the fallen splicer threat. We literally broke into their lair and destroyed the wrath of the machine (aksis, archon prime) from d1… lady efrideet needs to remind saladin or something idk 🤷🏾♂️
It’s like 95% of Rise of Iron was forgotten by Bungie; When we received the Young Wolf’s Howl at the end of the campaign, we became the start of the new gen Iron Lords, but now all that seems to be forgotten it’s a shame, really
That actually was something that absolutely upset me. Saladin isn't even really concerned with it now, He is part of the Cabal forces. We've done far more than he has at this point in this war. We honestly should have been given control over the Iron Temple by this point in the story, we should have been allowed inside, and we sure as hell should have been allowed the nostalgia of climbing the peak.
I'll be honest, I feel like the removal of power levels from Iron Banner was a really good change. It just removes the perquisite of needing to raise power. Of course you still need to do things like collect good weapons but that fine since it's long form progression. I also firmly believe Destiny 2's game modes would be better if they stopped being so fucking lazy and actually made maps for them. They keep adding game modes to maps that clearly weren't designed for them.
I’ve been saying this for a while. Yes we get new content every season but how much of that do we interact with? How much of it do we care about? Or actually like? The core playlists are essentially unchanged from season to season. Then the dlc comes with also barely any changes to the core playlists. It’s the core of the game and has been completely ignored since the release of Shadowkeep. The issue with seasonal content is that Bungie spends who knows how long unvaulting a significant portion of Mars for a mission nobody will be playing after the season is over. Yet they stated we won’t be seeing a, of course, reissued map until later into the lifecycle of Lightfall. This mission on Mars is locked behind the season where half the loot is reissued loot you could still obtain the day before the season came out. The seasonal model is harmful to the core of the game. So much time is spent on things we honestly do not care about. Have you ever heard someone say they genuinely missed a seasonal activity from Shadowkeep or Beyond Light? I haven’t. I can’t go on a single video talking about Destiny 2 without seeing a comment bringing up how a map or raid is missed. Only reason I can’t play the game right now is because the core game is unplayable and repetitive.
@@alter6243 I kinda agree, but for me I'd say what I really hate. Isn't not being able to interact with content, but rather being forced to interact with content. It still boggles my mind how bad PVP rewards are. Back in the day you could get Not Forgotten or Recluse, which were top tier PVP weapons from PVP. Now if you want top tier PVP weapons you've gotta do PVE content. Not to mention the insulting amount of grinding for pointless things. Destiny feels like it's too scared to let people stop playing the game, like it's got to constantly pressure people into playing to get that next FOMO item.
@@alter6243 This whole year fund has been used to remade Subclass, we got rework Subclass and their exotic, Next year we should expect more content as we have subclass revamp already, team can start making something else
I played with my clan in iron banner over the weekend, we all used DMTs and when that middle point came around we had a chokehold on that location because there was only 2-3 different spots they could come from fresh out of spawning, we lost just a handful of games. Bungie really screwed this up, you could say we were playing like punks but it's crucible and I've always rocked the DMT whether it was it's inception, it's nerf, and it's recent buff, I've not stopped using it, even in PVE.
@@alter6243 I mean, when you have a game thats separated from a free-to-play model and a premium model, it makes sense that the FTP aspects of it dont get much love. I'm not defending the model at all, but that's just how I see it.
It really hurts to see Iron Banner (as well as all of PvP) be neglected this hard. I know that Destiny is a PvE game first and foremost, but that doesn’t mean that you should neglect the other part of the game.
Especially since pvp (if good) is almost endlessly replayable, while strikes imo aren't really (except for a small percentage of the playerbase). I won't even consider Gambit as an option either, lol.
I never felt like D1 was PVE focused, and maybe that’s because I played before DLC was out and the story was considered lack luster by most, but the PvP was decent at the time. House of Wolves made the game reach its Peak with PvP content.
D2 PvP is arguably some of the worst PvP I’ve experienced. D1 felt so fun to play as it was equal gun skill and class/map knowledge. To me D2 feel like they don’t have a clear viewpoint on where they want to take the game anymore. D1 felt like they were in a groove with a clear vision and drive to do better
The armor downgrade in D2 continues to bewilder. D1 armor was truly awesome looking and unique. Bungie must have lost the artists that were in touch with the aesthetic most of us appreciate. Solid vid.
Agreed. D2 armor is a joke, especially with being able to buy assassins creed or fortnite armor. It completely breaks the immersion that the art direction is supposed to contribute to
I think the issue would be if they brought back all he D1 armor is that players would complain that “it’s just another reskin just like their weapons.” I do love the OG armor from D1 but I also know that returning players or some players who’ve been around for so long wouldn’t be as interested.
@@Bestow3000 The keynote speaker event thing that detailed that bullshit is the reason I canceled my plans for lightfall and why this is my last season.
@@adjcsee4476 you're missing the point. The point is that Bungie should still be able te release new, good looking armor, but 90% of the armor is ugly. There's next to no symmetry at all.
Iron Banner was my favorite thing in Destiny 1. I used to play it w my friends, having really good times. I miss that Destiny so much. SRL or Combined Weapons in crucible. The good old days … Thanks for your video
Just watching this brings back so many emotions... I don't even know where to begin but just watching these clips, seeing so many amazingly laid out old maps and some of those weapons, Bungie has some things right and even more horribly wrong. Bring back those maps and WTF... Where is clever dragon?
Wow. It's been years since I've seen any D1 pvp gameplay on some of those maps. And I watch a lot of Destiny videos... Brings me back... There was something different about PvP then, something special.
First time I got to experience Iron Banner in D1 was amazing. I logged in to do my daily bounty, and saw the gates to the garden was open in the tower. There was a huge Iron emblem and a man stood in front of it, Lord Saladin. In front of him were people with some amazing weapons I never saw before. Grinded the next two days trying to farm them. Fast forward last week, I approach Saladin with the same excitement I had back in D1, only to find him selling shit weapons with a grind fest for a chainmail shader, this is the state of destiny now, grind a week for just a shit shader. PS. just finished my grind, will stay away from PVP for a while now.
My brother, I grinded for the shader as well and as a Hunter who is really bad at pvp I too have no desire to go back for a long time. Didn't help that I'm not even fond of the weapons dropping. So the D1 armor was all I had going for me outside the shader.
Finnala's Peril, Iron Wreath, Colovance's Duty... Man, those were the days. I miss that game. I miss the artifact system. I 100% loved nightstalker without the super and with double melee, and double grenades. It was such a good time.
First Light. Amazing map. One time we got our mates together for some custom matches and that was one of the maps we played...still remember some of the kills, deaths and near misses from that match...
The sooner people uninstall this garbage and move on the better, I've done it, and it feels great to break away from it, its a laggy server, a leaky ship and nothing but a greedy corporation with it's seasonal model which is nothing but a hindrance. So many people still play it, because they love cosmetics. I've learned that now is the time to get rid of it and never look back. The fact they still can't address the server crashes and think it's acceptable people lose there progress. I've moved on. I'm giving Warframe a go, and some other games.
Is 75% true the other 35 want to release all the content but the entrepreneurs at this game have a different plans I'll be playing this game since I was 46 or 47 years old now I'm going to be 55 I took a break for like 2 years and a half hoping when I come back that this game was even better now than before and it wasn't Bungie selling you and a expansion for the whole year and when they see that 80% of the player base by it that cut down some content and sell it to you later on for more money and that's one of the things I don't like I hope someday we all get in the same page and not buy the expansion right away when it's 3 days before it comes out then buy it so we don't give him a chance to cut content and we can get better DLCs
@@AverageGamer9402 agreed, I'm out too, got better things to do with my time than play this Skinner box, bad slot-machine rng, money sucking farce of a 'game'
I know iron banner was awesome on D1, that's just a fact. However, I think where Iron banner is right now is still awesome. I find myself hoping every "this week in destiny" that we are getting IB in the next week (thankfully today they announced it's coming back next week. For 2 weeks!!) But everyone has their opinion, this is just mine
Yes, I do! But can I briefly highjack your point to talk about one of the first warning signs we saw in Bungie's game philosophy? When I started playing pvp (in House of Wolves) I sucked. Eventually I got slowly better, but getting my first Grasp of Malok really started to change things, and I was playing more too. Then we got Clever Dragon, same rpm as Grasp, it kicked ass. But on the second IB (I think) with the new guns, it was a standard reward AND came with high-cal rounds..... So a max speed pulse with high-cal...it flinched EVERYTHING and EVERYONE, and EVERYONE had it and used it. So Bungie had to nerf ALL the max rpm pulses >.< including my Grasp!! This is one of the biggest problems with Bungie...they give people OP weapons/abilities, which tends to ruin pvp for everyone, then they nerf more than they should have had to, resulting in stale, average guns/abilities. You can even see this in PVE, before TaKen King they nerfed field scout on the CE and VoG scouts. Before, with 28 shots in the mag you could take a big fuck-off yellow bar captain in the Skolas fight from 100% to dead using Fang of Ir-Yut. After the nerf, you'd get him down to 50%, have to reload, and he'd run away and hide and get his shield back...sooo frustrating! And why? Just so the new Taken King guns wouldn't seem crappy compared to the old raid weapons. Same thing happened with special ammo at the end of D1 in pvp. They nerfed the special ammo economy (and never put it back) because they were planning on the double primary meta of D2 launch, and didn't want people saying "this sucks!" and going back to D1...... ok, /rant over :]
13:59 I know you have a to make a video that follows a plot line, but fortress is literally the best iron banner mode. It’s unironically so much fun to me and my friends. The game hasn’t truly gotten worse. You’re just all getting bored of something you spend thousands of hours on. Big surprise.
I came back into destiny 2 pretty late and seriously had no idea that IB had bounties to help with progression. I have no idea why they went backwards and got rid of this, grinding out 2 resets for a shader is a real pain in the ass. Great vid!
One of my fondest memories was grinding till 5am literally getting rank 5 within 10 minutes of reset to get the emblem and shaders available. Iron Banner was also great because if at any point you were a little under level, Win or Lose if you had any drops of gear or weapons it be as far as 7-8 light levels higher! The absolute best way to kick back and rank up it was truely special. In d2 this is the first time I've enjoyed Iron Banner I'm inlove love with Fortress I already reset my rank I have 808 kills this week and I will find you with my witherhoard. Good Hunting
Why does all my memories of d1 bring back smiles and a feeling off enjoyment but d2 just brings up let down and frustration minus a few memories like forsaken
Only playing IB for the old IB armor and chain mail shader. I only barley touched it once in awhile in D2 but never got into it like I did with D1, sad to see one of the most fun and iconic events in destiny become a husk
I just wish it didnt take 3 days of grinding just for 1 reset. I don't have a ton of expendable time, so I'll have to wait so long just to reset the second time
Needing to wear so many pieces/ornaments of iron banner gear in order to get the max XP boost is just stupid. If you only needed 1 or 2 items, then that would be fine, but I don't see why they want everyone to look the same. Also, why the hell do they limit us to only using void or stasis subclasses to complete ALL of the daily pinnacle challenges? And it was void/stasis last season, too, they didn't even change it at all for this season. It's so damn lazy.
This title is *wrong.* it’s not the downfall of IB, *it’s the downfall of the community.* here’s why: A lot of people compare D1 IB to new IB saying that they never should’ve made substantial changes because everyone loved it. This is wrong. We loved D1 iron banner because at the time of D1 no one really took games seriously, it’s almost like people understood that it’s just a game. -You’d play with your friends knowing one of them was terrible, and that changed nothing because you still had fun and had a good chance of winning -not many people on console were competitive at all, even having a headset was uncommon Now, in D2, if you are of equal skill of the rest of the lobby and not using the absolute meta, you are the minority, at a significant disadvantage. If you want to kick back, play on some speakers, and chill out in quickplay after a mentally draining trials card, you are at a significant disadvantage. If you play a traditional style of classic PvP and honor the 1v1, you get matched with people that don’t, putting you at a significant disadvantage. This is *NOT* the downfall of iron banner. This is the fall of the community’s understanding of casual.
@@HK-tn2ny if we got what we have now as rewards in d1 we would be absolutely over the moon, the rewards back then were literally just an incomplete armor set. this whole video is just terrible
it's hilarious to know that in D1 they specifically reworked IB rank twice, once to make it so you had more incentive to play during the whole week rather than just towards the end, and then again to make it so you didn't have to compromise your gear by forcing you to wear IB equipment/weapons, only to have gone full circle now and revert to requiring both with the rank points being so hilariously stingy that farming isn't effective until you've played 18 games on a Friday or later while wearing 5 pieces of IB gear(weapons, armor, or ornaments that have to be unlocked twice!) and an emblem. and even then because IB is only around twice a season if you want that season's cosmetics you have to grind your ghost's shell off because even with the max multiplier of *_x11_* you still don't even get enough points on a win/loss for a single rank past like 4 out of 16
A way to make the Iron Banner feel more important is to give the quest you pick up from Lord Saladin a side mission explaining why the Iron Banner was forged back in the Dark Ages. To show it was more than just a place where guradians fight in an arena to be rewarded. As you progress through the quest, you'd be given an Armor piece voucher that will let you the player decide what Iron Banner armor you wish to wear. Each set would have a built-in intrinsic Perk encouraging players to grind for every set to have all the special in-game abilities. Wearing the Armor would increase your reputation by 5%, and bounties would be unaffected. And near the end of the quest, you would return to the Iron Temple and gain an Artifact of the Iron Lord's. Giving you a special ability in PvP and PvE. We could also have a Battlegrounds Playlist with an Iron lords theme taking place in the Plaugelands and bringing back Siva Fallen. Does it sound like fun? TOO BAD BECAUSE BUNGIE DOSEN'T CARE ABOUT FUN ANYMORE!
Yo honestly thats a cool idea, hell its probably like a given probability in the lore that ib quest SHOULD be like that and the other obvious stuff. But now imagine the BILLION dollar company, BILLION with a B and all its staff give us what we have today🥴
I remember the first iron banners working so hard to get random piece of armor that took my light level up or getting a random weapon that might not have good perks but was so hard to get it was still worth using
I quit playing D2 shortly after launch it was just hard to play knowing it was only a shell of what D1 was especially in year 4. They should’ve just kept adding to d1
Yeah loved grinding IB for those god rolls. Those nights grinding out NFs for strike specific loot like grasp and omago loop. Shame they never alot for some type of trading system.
I don’t mind this current iron banner. Turrets could probably use more health, but I feel the main issue right now is just the current meta. Honestly if they limited abilities within iron banner I think it would be so much better.
This is only my 4th rodeo in IB. I completely agree with you. I enjoyed it so much. But the abilities took away from it. It became so much I didn’t mind farming L’s on my last 2 days of playing.
There's a popular rumor / community theory that the "live team" for D1 was responsible for Rise of Iron being so good and the "main team" for D2 absolutely _hated_ that they were outperformed by what was basically the maintenance crew, so they took out / reversed a majority of the changes made and we ended up with D2 in its launch state. Not saying it's true because there's no hard evidence but it is a bit easier to believe when looking at something like the history of Iron Banner and how sharply it took a dive between Rise of Iron and Destiny 2 Year 1.
Idk why this got popular when we already know the poor quality for d2 y1 was the mid development reboot and the other contributing factor which is their shift in mentality about quality products being bad.
I tend to agree this was a possibility. Or perhaps also - the main team wanted to prove they could 'innovate' and come up with good stuff on their own. There's a massive prejudice in our societies against anything that's 'old'. 'New' is always seen as better, and in my own professional life, people are always asked "so how have you justified your job by making things better?". So people are often trying to reinvent the wheel....fix something which *isn't* broken. End result is things get worse, not better. But I can totally see game devs getting twisted by the maintenance team getting all the accolades for fixing what their mess (even if they weren't responsible for it in the first place).
Bro I was really hoping that iron banner was gonna be big this week with us finally revisiting felwinters peak again and seeing it be cabal themed I assumed we’d return there for iron banner, but no they redesigned felwinters peak just not use it again… gotta love it
can we talk about the decline of content overall though. like every core playlist and seasonal activity has been mudded for a long time now. and even the raids and dungeons lose their juice very quickly nowadays
I remember my brother got Suros super early in D1 from an engram from cave farming. My first ever exotic was Thunderlord a few weeks after he got Suros
I remember when the Iron Banner ship dropped for me in D1. I took a picture of the screen! I was so hype. I can’t believe I’ve been playing this game going on 10 years now… wow
I'll just never understand them essentially pressing the reset button on D1 with D2 and going through almost the same process as they did with D1. They almost treated it like D1 didn't exist and they learned nothing from it because D2 had an extremely similar path of meh launch to decent DLCs to a life saving big DLC. It's just so strange.
What an amazing "Vidoc" on the subject of Iron Banner in Destiny 1. Content like this is high quality and something that should get Bungie moving out of fear.
I played like 10 games and I have to say Iron banner Totally Intense inhaling. This witherhord and bubble meta right now takes the live away from the fun.
Hot take, d1 level advantages were good. In d1 gear was lost throughout most expansions, but even after ttk the vast majority of good gear was that high level end game gear. I've said before that I think a d3 with more d1y1 systems is the way to go. Honestly for endgame there needs to be the system of: Campaign-> adventures/patrols/bounties/lost sectors->core Playlist->high level nightfalls/iron banner-> raids/trials. Extra activities such as heroic lost sectors, heroic adventures, heroic public events, competitive, and more be designed to reward a lot of a specific item or "currency". Imagine if Heroic public events= glimmer and basic gear (bad purples and blues, but lots) Heroic adventures = xp, legendary shards, and other minor currency Heroic lost sectors = high level exotic gear
I can’t speak for anyone else, but the more videos I see you make like this, the less I care about Destiny 2. Every comparison sees how much better D1 was and how little Bungie seems to care. The golden years of Destiny are all in D1 for me and I’ll never understand why so much had to be discarded. I was a true Iron Banner junkie and I couldn’t even bring myself to play it after the first D2 iteration came out. I honestly hope Bungie makes a Destiny 3 and looks at videos like yours and others when deciding the direction the game would take.
Man, I miss the Y1 D1 Iron Banner armor. I still had it from my hunter all the way through the end of Destiny 1, so many people asked where I got it. Good times.
@@NovemberHotel i'll never forget the moment I absolutely got clipped by someone in IB. On asylum trying to cap B flag some kid got a DOUBLE COLLATERAL on me and some other poor shmuck through a wall. I was not pleased 😂
8:52 "the removal of the buff that increased each successive day and instead rebalanced the reputation gain so that it leveled out to be more even and incentivize players to play EACH day of the event instead feeling like it was worth waiting to farm just the last few days" I feel like IB now needs this change since the rep you get from the first 4 days is worthless until you get that 11.0x rep on fridays
I remember playing the first IB and most of my friends laughed at me for being at the botton only to be awarded gjallarhorn. They would often be kicked out of lfg groups when I wasn't around.
Iron banner use to be the mode that helps you level up to catch up with everyone else....now it's just a shell that revolves around you playing 3 matches just to get 1 pinnical. Also, at this point, why can't Iron Banner have multiple armor sets that the player can select which one they want to unlock. Also, why not bring back Iron Banner bounties that also give pinnicals.
i didnt play d1 (pc gamer). but when is see gameplay d1 pvp, much more clear and stable. current pvp form in d2 is ability spamming challange in land of lagfest with AE effectiveness curse. destiny should decide which one wants to be... tactical and a little bit slower or chaotic max speed with less gunplay?
I did enjoy a good game of iron banner in D1, it was by no means perfect but was essential for the grind , even for a casual like me, I will say one of the MAIN gripes overall for the event was just constantly playing control, bungie should of rotated the play list more often especially in D2, also with the lack of maps in pvp as well had an effect overall.
I feel like Bungie needs to put more work into iron banner to make it great again. I do like them removing power levels for the sole reason of letting people use their sunset weapons in the mode. I believe reforging should come back because I think it's cool and would still work as an alternate to crafting but it would be cool to craft the weapons too even though I doubt that'll happen. They either need to make the reputation go up a bit faster, bring back the third week of iron banner, or change the reputation rewards because most people that I know of are going after the new shader that they put behind 2 rank prestiges and not everyone has a week off to play the mode.
Have never seen guardians cap zones with such fervor before Fortress game mode. It was fun but it will definitely get old fast seeing only Bubble titans everywhere.
i started playing destiny after shadow keep released on steam and since then, as a pvp oriented casual, whenever i see comparsion videos like this with d1, the game loses 1 brownie point for me to keep playing. feels like bungo dropped destiny pvp completely and lets it live as long as it can live with what it has, by itself... probably lightfall will be the last expansion for me
Most of the player base are into PVE maybe 25% are in the sweaty try hard range I used to go into iron banner every time know I rarely even play it.its nothing but team shooting, slide shotgunners, and heavy ammo rocket guy. I loaded in this season and did decent but it's just not fun
IB still holds a special place in my overly nostalgic mind. I personally think the gunplay in D1 was a lot better, guns were also more powerful, especially on release, which I miss dearly. An exotic should feel really powerful, and seeing the true Suros Regime in action reminds me of that. Something I miss when it comes to D2 iron banner is bounties. I like what they're doing with daily challenges, but it could have been even better with bounties. Not silly ones like "Play 40 matches", but maybe "Get 5x streak" and "Take down the alpha" where you shut down a kill streaker. Just saying right now, I don't like Eruption as a game mode, and I have played at least 100 matches at this rate to get the title. The main issue is the maps are so small, and the mode encourages team shooting. I get the theme of a wolf pack, but it feels a bit too bland to be THE iron banner thing. They should honestly introduce a big map that encourages splitting up a bit more with the next one. A solid map would be very welcomed by many a player. Just my boring two cents.
It’s always a good day when NH uploads. Honestly I feel that iron banner is in a pretty good spot with this new game mode and the *new* armor. It has its downsides but overall I am really enjoying IB this season
I don't mind the new game mode, but I hate that it's the ONLY mode for the entire week. I think it would be way better if it was a rotating playlist with at least 2 or 3 different game types, especially since that would loosen the meta so you wouldn't just see 150 titan bubbles every game, like we are this week.
@@zak2986 well that’s fair actually. I don’t mind the Titan bubbles as I just grab a sword and one shot everyone in there, but they can be annoying. I wouldn’t mind a rotation of 2-3 game modes as you suggested. We could have Classic IB, Eruption, and Fortress
@Tomato Cultivator titan bubbles wouldn't be that bad if I didn't HAVE to only use stasis or void (in order to complete the pinnacle challenges). As a hunter-only player, my void and stasis supers are useless against a bubble, so it's really frustrating when the other team is chaining bubbles and I'm helpless to stop them. 🫤
@Tomato Cultivator yeah, I'll try it as a last resort (same with void), but unless the titan isn't paying attention I'll just get a shotgun to the face before I can even finish the super's animation. Whereas with blade barrage I could just pop the bubble if i need to, or with arcstrider I could just kill the titan and get rid of it that way. It just seems so pointless to limit us to 2 subclasses
i remember being excited to play these mods, Iron Banner, Trials, the armor was worth it and so was the weapon, the flex of going flawless, just that feeling, dosent exist anymore.
I've been playing Thy D since Year 1 D1. I used to enjoy IB back then. But since they added that one version of control a couple years back. I can't stand playing anymore.
What I’ve never understood is how destiny 1 is such a masterpiece even with taken king and rise of iron. How did we go backwards so much? I’ll be honest I left Destiny 2 back in the season of the plunder. That the final nail in coffin for me. I recently bought destiny 1 and bought all the DLCs and wow such a experience! Plus crucible… how balanced it is in D1 compared to D2 sweat fest. I love iron banner. I loved it in D1 and I feel and felt that it’s a half baked event now which bungie don’t care about…. It’s a shame destiny 2 is in the decline by the masses but I guess it’s what happens when devs have no passion in there game. I’ll continue to play destiny 1 until the servers shut down. It’s a relic which should be cherished until it’s final days.
It's mind blowing that unobstructed lanes existed. After getting a kill you weren't instantly focused on by that player's whole LFG squad. And you weren't constantly bombarded by a steady stream of abilities and explosions. Doesn't even look like Destiny.

Everything is so polished and feels like an assembly line now.
my thoughts and feelings exactly - it used to feel kinda raw and *real*
now it's just a pretty video game
It's crazy, it's all coming back just by looking at the old maps 😂
I feel like the devs are still passionate about destiny 2 but upper management is trying to milk the game for every cent
Bungie: we’ll let you jump on top of all the buildings in felwinter but the peak everyone seeks is a no >,>
@@snyperwulffgaming9575 bruh that name is just lol
@@alter6243 This whole year fund has been used to remade Subclass, we got rework Subclass and their exotic,

And even worse that the recent changes/updates to pvp are terrible and mostly are being received terribly
Even in pve it's recycled content we haven't had anything new since witch queen
It completely breaks the immersion that the art direction is supposed to contribute to
I think the issue would be if they brought back all he D1 armor is that players would complain that “it’s just another reskin just like their weapons.”
I do love the OG armor from D1 but I also know that returning players or some players who’ve been around for so long wouldn’t be as interested.
Sadly the creativity from the talented devs are stifled from the higher ups.
Crazy that almost 10 years later were playing the same maps in PvP. Really wish IB was every month.
That's Bungie for you

D1 auto rifle aesthetics just hit different ❤️
Just watching this brings back so many emotions... I don't even know where to begin but just watching these clips, seeing so many amazingly laid out old maps and some of those weapons, Bungie has some things right and even more horribly wrong. Bring back those maps and WTF... Where is clever dragon?
Wow. It's been years since I've seen any D1 pvp gameplay on some of those maps. And I watch a lot of Destiny videos... Brings me back... There was something different about PvP then, something special.
The lighting in d1 is so much better than d2 .
I feel like some maps in D1 are more filmic, and in D2 they go for more vibrant or pinpoint accurate colors
Just grinded 15 hours of IB just to be short 2 Ranks to get the shader.
Haven't played PVP for multiple seasons and definitely know why.
Love the background music, you can easily fall asleep to it.
Grinded for the hunter set I don’t know what is it but destiny 2 makes the set look trash aside from the cloak 🤦♂️

Bungie just don't care about their game or their players so long as it keeps making them money.

I know iron banner was awesome on D1, that's just a fact. However, I think where Iron banner is right now is still awesome. I find myself hoping every "this week in destiny" that we are getting IB in the next week (thankfully today they announced it's coming back next week. For 2 weeks!!)
But everyone has their opinion, this is just mine
I will never forget grinding for hours trying to get a god roll Distant Star and Clever Dragon. Remember when IB had amazing weapons lol?
I have so many good memories looking at these D1 clips. So many fun times with old D1 friends I don’t see anymore.
13:59 I know you have a to make a video that follows a plot line, but fortress is literally the best iron banner mode. It’s unironically so much fun to me and my friends. The game hasn’t truly gotten worse. You’re just all getting bored of something you spend thousands of hours on. Big surprise.

This guys channel is basically history class for destiny 2.
I came back into destiny 2 pretty late and seriously had no idea that IB had bounties to help with progression. I have no idea why they went backwards and got rid of this, grinding out 2 resets for a shader is a real pain in the ass.
Great vid!
Im really enjoying this historical look back critique videos coming out of this channel lately. Lot's of good ideas to be found here if bungie listens
Glad you’re enjoying them. More to come
most of it is just "muh destiny 1" boomer shit
One of my fondest memories was grinding till 5am literally getting rank 5 within 10 minutes of reset to get the emblem and shaders available. Iron Banner was also great because if at any point you were a little under level, Win or Lose if you had any drops of gear or weapons it be as far as 7-8 light levels higher! The absolute best way to kick back and rank up it was truely special. In d2 this is the first time I've enjoyed Iron Banner I'm inlove love with Fortress I already reset my rank I have 808 kills this week and I will find you with my witherhoard. Good Hunting
Now the shader and emblem are locked behind 2 resets, and even with 11x rep gain you only get 350 max rep per winning game
This title is *wrong.* it’s not the downfall of IB, *it’s the downfall of the community.* here’s why:
A lot of people compare D1 IB to new IB saying that they never should’ve made substantial changes because everyone loved it. This is wrong.
We loved D1 iron banner because at the time of D1 no one really took games seriously, it’s almost like people understood that it’s just a game.
-You’d play with your friends knowing one of them was terrible, and that changed nothing because you still had fun and had a good chance of winning
-not many people on console were competitive at all, even having a headset was uncommon
Now, in D2, if you are of equal skill of the rest of the lobby and not using the absolute meta, you are the minority, at a significant disadvantage.
@@HK-tn2ny if we got what we have now as rewards in d1 we would be absolutely over the moon, the rewards back then were literally just an incomplete armor set. this whole video is just terrible
it's hilarious to know that in D1 they specifically reworked IB rank twice, once to make it so you had more incentive to play during the whole week rather than just towards the end, and then again to make it so you didn't have to compromise your gear by forcing you to wear IB equipment/weapons, only to have gone full circle now and revert to requiring both with the rank points being so hilariously stingy that farming isn't effective until you've played 18 games on a Friday or later while wearing 5 pieces of IB gear(weapons, armor, or ornaments that have to be unlocked twice!) and an emblem.
and even then because IB is only around twice a season if you want that season's cosmetics you have to grind your ghost's shell off because even with the max multiplier of *_x11_* you still don't even get enough points on a win/loss for a single rank past like 4 out of 16
It’s wild to see bungie continually never learn lessons from the past
I do like that they brought back the wearing of emblems and gear to gain rep bonuses from earlier IB. Dressing up for events is kinda fun.

The music in the background used always brings peace to my mind.
So glad I got the complete armor sets for all characters on d1 lol

Yeah loved grinding IB for those god rolls. Those nights grinding out NFs for strike specific loot like grasp and omago loop. Shame they never alot for some type of trading system.
LOVE your videos man. I press play so quick lol.
That sounds... completely ridiculous lol
Y’all have too much time lol 😂 it’s just a game

I'll just never understand them essentially pressing the reset button on D1 with D2 and going through almost the same process as they did with D1. They almost treated it like D1 didn't exist and they learned nothing from it because D2 had an extremely similar path of meh launch to decent DLCs to a life saving big DLC. It's just so strange.

The rise of iron banner weapons and armour are probably the only things I miss about D1 that and nova mortis and Abaddon
Hot take, d1 level advantages were good.
In d1 gear was lost throughout most expansions, but even after ttk the vast majority of good gear was that high level end game gear.
I've said before that I think a d3 with more d1y1 systems is the way to go.
Honestly for endgame there needs to be the system of:
Campaign-> adventures/patrols/bounties/lost sectors->core Playlist->high level nightfalls/iron banner-> raids/trials.
Extra activities such as heroic lost sectors, heroic adventures, heroic public events, competitive, and more be designed to reward a lot of a specific item or "currency".
Imagine if
Heroic public events= glimmer and basic gear (bad purples and blues, but lots)
Heroic adventures = xp, legendary shards, and other minor currency
Heroic lost sectors = high level exotic gear
6’s period is not fun right now and fortress is even worse. On a positive note it gave me a chance to grind comp for ascendant
I can’t speak for anyone else, but the more videos I see you make like this, the less I care about Destiny 2. Every comparison sees how much better D1 was and how little Bungie seems to care. Also, at this point, why can't Iron Banner have multiple armor sets that the player can select which one they want to unlock.
Also, why not bring back Iron Banner bounties that also give pinnicals.

But yeah honestly the power lvl bs in d2 is just hella annoying taking away the fun.
Here's a joke: Destiny PvP (Crucible, Iron Banner, Osiris) is fun and balanced.
Destiny 1 stil the best gamer ever
Also matches go by so quickly that neither teams give a fk about winning or losing
i started playing destiny after shadow keep released on steam and since then, as a pvp oriented casual, whenever i see comparsion videos like this with d1, the game loses 1 brownie point for me to keep playing. feels like bungo dropped destiny pvp completely and lets it live as long as it can live with what it has, by itself... probably lightfall will be the last expansion for me
Yeah bro I'm going to give it the last chance with light fall Anna find the whole expansion though only the 3 months package
Nice soundtrack in the background from D1 😍
@@zak2986 ok that’s a fair point but your stasis super can kill a bubble IF you pop it inside the bubble
Very nice vid, thank you
Glad you enjoyed
Blind Watch was such a good nap. I’d love to see that and asylum in D2
I've been playing Thy D since Year 1 D1. I used to enjoy IB back then. But since they added that one version of control a couple years back. I can't stand playing anymore.
What an emotional roller coaster😭😭
Pure nostalgia amazing video
It's mind blowing that unobstructed lanes existed. After getting a kill you weren't instantly focused on by that player's whole LFG squad. And you weren't constantly bombarded by a steady stream of abilities and explosions. Doesn't even look like Destiny.
Man we need weapon reforging! So many great features being striped away for more grind mechanics that requires u to sell you soul to the game
