Nope, I tried to look for the official cabinet for this game and apparently it doesn’t exist. Or it DOES, just no photos of it exist online for very strange reasons.
@@SpongeyBubby Yeah, I have noticed that some arcade sequels or spin offs don't really get a lot of attention when it comes down to a picture of it's cabinet online.
Dig Dug 2 is released in 1985, so I think this game is also on the Nintendo Entertainment System for the same release as Arcade and/or Atari 2600, but the NES version actually has 8-bit sounds and music
The late 1970's had consoles, the Magnvox Odyssey and Atari 2600 were around, my uncle owned an Odyssey, but lost it in a house fire a number of years back. The 2600 came around in 1979, I remember my dad saved a sock full of half dollar and dollar coins for me, used it to buy my first Atari 2600 in 1980, did get a chance to play one in 79, but at the age of 4, I didn't know what the hell I was doing. Once I owned a 2600, I grew accustomed to playing games on a console, and from there is how I grew to be a gamer.
Looks can be deceiving, this one has more depth in gameplay than the original. Instead of being able to inflate or strategize dropping a rock on the bad guys, you can inflate and strategize to get the enemies on a part of the island you can drill and sink, earning big points.
@@Bloodreign1 there’s no way dude. It might be fun. But it’s not worthy of Dig Dug 2. They shoulda just advanced and built off the OG. Maybe new bad guys. Slight variations. Maybe DigDug Carl could “ghost” through the dirt like his enemies once a game. Who knows. But this island destruction doesn’t look right.
This video is of the arcade version, also saw NES port, as well as the Sharp X68000 and in a couple Namco arcade compilations for more modern consoles.
@@Pacmanfan-po9rn Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the Mappy series :) I played Hopping Mappy on MAME, and I have a blast with it, really great game. Too bad it has to be Japan exclusive, I honestly have more fun with that game than this Dig Dug sequel. If Dig Dug 2 can be localize, why can't Hopping Mappy? After playing Hopping Mappy, it boggles my mind Namco never re-release it on any of the Namco Museum compilations. Namco hasn't even re-release the original Mappy Arcade game on the recent Namco Museum compilation which is unacceptable and shameful. Namco better re-release the Mappy games next on future Namco Museum compilations, because Mappy does not deserve to be ignored at all. This is a really great series Namco should treat better.
@@retrofan4963 They put MAPPY on a MyArcade cabinet but it was only the Famicom ROM. It's also on the Evercade but again-Famicom. Atleast the MyArcade Namco Museum cabinet has the arcade ROM. Mappy Kids finally got localized on the Evercade too so maybe some day we will see Hopping Mappy rereleased to us Western Fans. Have you played Mappy Land? What did you think of it. I only just got it on Wii U because I realised it was on there.
@@Pacmanfan-po9rn I played all the Mappy games :) Mappy, Hopping Mappy, Mappy Land, Mappy Kids, and Mappy Arrangement. But yeah I got really happy that the Famicom version of Mappy and Mappy Kids are finally re-released and in the West. Thanks for the info by the way :) You're right, all this gives a good hope that the Arcade version of Mappy and Hopping Mappy will have a good possibility of being re-released in future Namco compilations down the line. What's your thoughts on Mappy Land?
@@retrofan4963 Hopping had just the 1 port, the Sharp X68000, otherwise it is mired in obscurity thanks to Namco. It's like they are afraid to put this game on any compilations, I do think it came out on the original Wii VC, but only in Japan.
NES version is quite good, but the arcade version tends to look a little better. The NES version did get 1 thing the arcade didn't, a different stage theme every so many stages.
Wow, I'm amazed at how quickly and precisely you can play!

I’ve seen it in one of those compilation arcade cabinets
Some games were just sold as kits, no cabinets to them, just a PCB board and a manual.
I never really liked Dig Dug II, but watching the way you strategize is a lot of fun.

買ってもらえなかった思い出😌
I've never even heard of this until Nintendo put it in the news switch catalog, wow
Just wait til you find out that there's a whole spinoff franchise following the story of Dig Dug's son.
I learned of it at a barbershop that had an arcade cabinet with multiple games.
*VERY VERY IMPRESSIVE!* makes my efforts look like a FUCKIN BOOGER...
