「ギャラガ」のリメイクとして登場した「ギャラガ'88」。今回の内容も次々と飛来するエイリアンを撃破していくシューティングゲームである。操作方法は2方向レバーで左右の移動と、1つのボタンをビームの発射に使用する。また、今回の特徴は3機合体の「トリプルファイター」への変形が可能なことや、左右の移動だけではあるが、スクロールするステージの存在があげられる。また、ボーナスステージでは、ワルツやサンバのBGMに乗って、前作以上の華麗な編隊飛行を見せてくれる。ボーナスステージのBGMがとても良い。
ストーリー:
絶滅したはずの「ギャラガ軍団」が生きていた。従来の種族(ボス･ゴエイ･ザコ)に加えて特殊な新種族が再び攻撃を開始してきた。ファイターよ戦え、そして惑星ギャラガにたどり着き、敵ボスを倒せ。

Galaga '88 is an updated version of the old favorite, "Galaga", with more invaders and more player firepower. Galaga '88 gives players a chance to once again repel the invaders from the Galagan Kingdom. One or two players can try their hand at fighting the invaders. This time the Galagans have four more allies, each with unique weapons and defenses that a player must overcome.
By destroying special enemies or obstacles the player can get 'items'. When a player has two items, they can warp to another dimension to confront more Galagan ships with new strategies. In the Challenging Stages (labelled in this game as 'That's Galactic Dancin'), the player shoots down as many invaders as possible as the Galagans dance to a waltz, tango, march or jazz tune.
The player selects single or dual ship power. The objective is to destroy all the Galagan foes in each of the 29 sectors of the galaxy, with each sector more difficult than the last.

TIPS AND TRICKS -
Perfect Bonus : shoot all 40 enemies in the 'That's Galactic Dancin' bonus stages to receive a 'Perfect' bonus just like the challenging stages in the original "Galaga". Initially this bonus is 10000 points but it increases on later 'That's Galactic Dancin' stages.
Secret Bonus : during the 'That's Galactic Dancin' bonus stages, don't touch anything : don't shoot and don't move (simply don't touch the joystick); at the end of the dance and after getting ZERO hits and ZERO points, you'll receive a 10000 points 'Secret Bonus'.
Pick up two blue items to get a bonus and go to the next harder dimension after completing a 'That's Galactic Dancin' stage. This bonus is also initially 10000 points but increases each time you achieve it.
Pick up a purple item which appears on later stages to immediately get a triple-firepower ship.

Impressive score "HIS" (aka Novice). The highlight for me was stage 28. A triple ship is not easy to maneuver when you have a screen filled with bullets and enemies swarming down on you from side to side at the same time. You had me on the edge of my seat! Very well done.

I never finished this game. It's way too difficult for me to accomplish. The furthest I've gotten to was Stage 25 on Dimension 5.
@@xxdeadchannelxx Josh, you have what it takes to reach and kill the final boss. I'm sure you never thought you'd break 3M on Galaga right? Just be persistent. You'll get to the end. Stage 25 is still huge. 👍
@@TheGalagaKing I have beaten the Turbografx 16 version a few times. It's a little easier than the arcade version.
@@TheGalagaKing But yeah, I'm not giving up until I beat the arcade version. The firing patterns are what makes it tough. It almost makes me feel that I don't have a fair chance.
The Dimension 1 boss (which always appears at the end of the ice planet no matter what dimension you're in) is a purple Galaxian.
The Dimension 2 boss is a giant Nin (the 3 hit enemies that get goofier with damage).
The Dimension 3 boss is a giant Dimension 1/5 Zako (the weak enemies that can split into 4 in higher stages).
The Dimension 4 boss is a giant Kan (the shelled enemies).
The Dimension 5 boss is a giant Dimension 1/5 Boss Galaga.
リザルト画面で、自分の知らないステージがこんなにもあるんだとワクワクしたなぁ。
撃ち返しが無いのでギャプラスよりも簡単に全クリ出来ましたね。ボーナスステージでは敵へ攻撃せずにそっとしておくと隠しボーナスが貰えたので、コミカルな敵の動きを見ながらのコーヒーブレイクでした。
弾除けが巧みなので安心して見てられる・・。すごいな。
いや、だいぶ市にまくりました。一番マシだったのを送っただけです。

First time played this on GameCube, Namco Museum 50th anniversary that is.
I remember this game was featured in Ridge Racer Revolution as a mini-game. Destroying all the ships unlocks all of the extra cars to race.
In almost 40 years of video gaming, both in the arcades and at home, it was here that I had the only chance of blasting aliens in time to Tango (7:51) 😂

PS2のナムコミュージアムで初めてやって凄く面白くてやり込んだけど訳あってゲーム売ったけど暫くして親父がWii買ってそれでダウンロードしてまたプレイ出来た時は嬉しかった(笑)

It was the same soundchip that was used in many arcade games at the time though
Namco and Taito were on fire musically in the late 80's, but Taito would get even greater come the 90's with Zuntata leading the charge.

I wonder if there's a bit of story in this one? To get the princess and the GREAT ending, you have to go through FIVE dimension jumps and save the princess's planet from the final Galaga at the end.
PS. Pity there are only FIVE 'dimensions' in this game, I would have loved to see Dimensions 6 through 10.
The story:
In the year 2288 (Seven years after the events of Galaga), the aliens have returned from a period of inactivity ready to destroy human kind by learning and engineering ships with dual fighter technology (like the humans have) and a device referred to as ICEM's (powerful enough to punch a hole in reality to four other sublayers referred to as 'dimensions'). Commander Yeager of the UGSF and the United Galaxy plot an all out attack on the home world of the Galaga to end the conflict between the two civilizations once and for all. It is eventually learned that the Galaga were multiple civilizations who evolved out of the same species and grouped together to form leagues (or a league made out of leagues if you'd put it that way). The United Galaxy would then refer to them as the Galaga League.
