I've done this many times and it works! My only advice besides try it yourself, is to NOT hold a bowl of CLR up to the shower head as you would be creating a very unsafe condition that could result in serious injury if it got into your eyes or anywhere on your face.
...because you can drop it and have a mess on your hands.
If you detach the shower head and are not a plumber, you will need some Teflon tape to get a nice seal. It’s $1 at local home store.
Thread it the opposite way the head goes on as well, else you will remove it when threading the head back on.

Remove your water restrictor inside your shower head
Don't waste your money on CLR! Vinegar does the same thing for much less
