I did this a while back and it got rid of a nonstop ring that would appear even a couple days after I just cleaned the toilet. BUT and this is a huge but, it absolutely deteriorated the gasket and caused my toilet to leak profusely for like a couple weeks until I had it fixed. I didn’t know it at the time but it was definitely from the vinegar, granted the toilet was about 10 years old but the vinegar gave it that slight nudge and the gasket that holds the main water supply at the bottom of the tank failed and there was nothing I could do to stop it. So if someone tells you that it won’t deteriorate the rubber/gaskets, that’s not true, I would say if it’s a newer toilet then it should be fine, but most of our toilets are 10-15 years old, unless we just moved into a new house. Yeppp. Vinegar can cause damage to rubber gaskets/fittings/rubber anything. I always take the rubber rings out of my faucet nozzles before soaking them in vinegar. Sometimes there's also a tiny rubber ring INSIDE the aerator. So I completely disassemble them and take that out. Because it's so small, it is the most vulnerable. I've actually gotten sick from soaking them in vinegar without taking the rubber ring out! Eventually those tiny rubber fragments get into your drinking water. I'm glad you mentioned. Yes, pouring vinegar directly into your toilet's reservoir (water tank) can potentially damage the rubber seals and gaskets within, as vinegar's acidic nature can cause the rubber to deteriorate, soften, and eventually crack over time. However, when it is dirty and nasty, do it. But don't do it on a regular basis. There is a product made for cleaning washing machines that doesn't harm rubber or metal parts so I commonly use that instead. But I'll will use 45% vinegar from Amazon cut with 50% water. Use gloves and eye protection - this isn't your 3% vinegar - it can burn.

@@Anamarie157 absolutely true, it is awesome that you researched it. never experienced any adverse reaction to it as it is used in small amount and that solution does not stay too long in the tank (it is a busy toilet :D). Yeah, like I look inside my toIlet tank every time i use it and say, "Yuk!" Now, someone said pour CLR down the tank tube to clean the holes in the BOWL and let it soak. Yes! That can also help with that bowl "ring," which most likely is a build-up of mineral deposits. And if CLR does not work, get an acidic cleaner for the bowl and a $2.00 scouring stick from Walmart. The best way to "clean" the tank is to scrub it with a good brush and flush out the sediments, but DO NOT put chemicals in the tank!
For a past apartment, I used 30% vinegar then 3 % hydrogen peroxide. It cleaned black mold on the tank lid and on the sides of the the tank as if it was never there. I love 30% vinegar. I recently bought 12% peroxide which I’m happy to use.

Hi Andrea thank you for all the great cleaning advise!!! Do you have a good hack to cleaning the Ninja blender blade?? I use sponge, brush, everything and it looks dirty. Not to happy :/ considering buying new blade but they are $30 might as well buy new blender 🤨
Immediately After I am done using mine, I put warm water halfway up and a couple drops of dish liquid and turn it on. I do this EVERYTIME after I use it.
While I love vinegar, I gotta say I used vitamin c powder in a pinch since I didn't have citric acid on hand, and it almost instantly cleaned the tank without scrubbing! I applied it to a dry tank by dusting it , turned my back for a second and it looked brand new... totally shocked and happy as hell I didn't have to scrub at all !
I cleaned both of my toilets with just a cheap dollar tree kitchen brush and an old toothbrush. I never use any chemicals...I wonder if baking soda or peroxide would be better than vinegar.
I generaly do this... I flush the toilet and put an entire or 1/2 a bottle of vingegar in the toilet. I lst it sit. (the longer the better.. ) then you scrub (before and after) and really scrub those yellow stains at the bottom of the toilet and they come right out!!!
On well and septic and struggle with mineral deposits of all kinds as well as bowls that tend to get a brown haze and ring every few days if not scrubbed. The stains get deep into the porcelain too. I have never experienced this before and had come to the conclusion, my toilets will just forever look filthy. I never thought about looking until the tank. Harsh chemicals are not an option due to being on septic, but vinegar is doable! I will definitely add tank cleaning into my routine and see what happens.
I use it for my everything because my fiance is a diabetic and he thinks that I could use something else like pine sol but I read up on that and they said that they are not allowed to smell anything with chemicals in it but I use it for everything that I could think of
I have a question… is there a benefit to doing this rather than a tank tablet (those big blue tabs that look like a giant’s breath mint LOL) or even a comet or other type of cleaner? I love your hacks so I’d love your input. 😊
Those tablets really aren't good for the gaskets in the toilet. The constant exposure to the bleach and chemicals in them will take away from the lifespan of them and they'll start leaking sooner than they normally would. That being said, the parts can be replaced....so it's just a trade-off of longevity vs not having to constantly clean the bowl by hand.
I've done lots of toilet repair and using those dissolves the gaskets and flappers. Even the vinegar shouldn't be in there more than 10 minutes like she said
Another product you can use is iron out. Simply flush, add product as it’s filling. You want some of it to get into the toilet itself. Let it soak over night. Doesn’t smell all that great but it works very well.

When everything is clean and you ran out of options of what to clean next, the inside of the toilet tank can give you a satisfying fix.
Much easier to buy a new tank. They are easy to fit diy 👍🏻
I use Boax?
Michigan hard water, our tank looks so much worse! Lots of calc and minerals. Looks like rust and gunk. I cleaned it when we moved it and it gets bad fast. House was built in 2016. So not quite 20 years.
Good too know about the cleaning vinegar
I use a toilet cleaning brush to clean the inside of the tank!!!
Me too. Easy
Vinegar does the same for your liver! Just a half teaspoon mixed with water!
Maybe baking soda too? Iron soap scrubs take rings out too!
If you stop the water, turn off at the bottom, near the wall, may be able to work on the bottom easier
Just turn it off before it refills
Whats wrong with tidy bowl clear tabs? I don't like the blue
I did this and it worked fine. The dark in the tank is stain after cleaning
bleach works with a clogged toilet. dish soap works too. had an issue months ago and never had a problem since then
What if you have a lot of rust
Use Iron Out 👍
I really don't care about cleaning the tank... so what is going to flush waste anyway... but great it worked out!
Why not use baking soda?
Thank you
Thanks for the tip!!! My mom's toilet was like that😁💐
So the silicone caulking chunks floating around…where were those stripped from? 😮
Your voice is so cute!!! And thank you for the great content
Thanks for sharing this tip!!
Hi Andrea thank you for all the great cleaning advise!!! Do you have a good hack to cleaning the Ninja blender blade?? I use sponge, brush, everything and it looks dirty. Not to happy :/ considering buying new blade but they are $30 might as well buy new blender 🤨
I would try a little baking soda and vinegar and a good scrub brush.
Which brand of Vitamin C Powder did you use?
@@debrinaalexander2211 Judee ascorbic acid from Amazon but I'm sure any brand will do. I usually buy the least expensive option.
@@cfar6256 Thanks for that. I'm always looking for less expensive ways to keep my toilet cleaned.
What can I use on rust stains? And how can I stop them in my toilet?
I cleaned both of my toilets with just a cheap dollar tree kitchen brush and an old toothbrush.
I never use any chemicals...I wonder if baking soda or peroxide would be better than vinegar.
I generaly do this... I flush the toilet and put an entire or 1/2 a bottle of vingegar in the toilet. I lst it sit. (the longer the better.. ) then you scrub (before and after) and really scrub those yellow stains at the bottom of the toilet and they come right out!!!
Just subscribed!👌🏼
On well and septic and struggle with mineral deposits of all kinds as well as bowls that tend to get a brown haze and ring every few days if not scrubbed. The stains get deep into the porcelain too.
I have never experienced this before and had come to the conclusion, my toilets will just forever look filthy. I never thought about looking until the tank.
Harsh chemicals are not an option due to being on septic, but vinegar is doable! I will definitely add tank cleaning into my routine and see what happens.
Forward water stains in your toilet bowl, you can use a pumice stone, works great.
I just spray soak with bleach without brushing and most of the stains are gone
why worry about it. do you think clean water tank makes it flush better
For a far more exciting experience, empty an entire box of baking soda in the tank first.
😆
Foaming tank😂😂😂
Sean Jones
Yes that'd be the funnest toilet cleaning experience in history hehehe
Wow I feel silly! Never thought about cleaning the tank!🤪
I use it for my everything because my fiance is a diabetic and he thinks that I could use something else like pine sol but I read up on that and they said that they are not allowed to smell anything with chemicals in it but I use it for everything that I could think of
I just use a soap liquid dish. Leave it there overnite done !! I l leave soap on top of cover as reminder.
Its not that difficult to remove the cistern. Then remove the flush valve and fill valve. Then you can thoroughly clean.
Those big blue tablets will actually clog up your bowl. They don't dissolve throughly, they look like blue sand in the bottom of the tank. 👍
I've done lots of toilet repair and using those dissolves the gaskets and flappers. Even the vinegar shouldn't be in there more than 10 minutes like she said
a Giant's breath mint? Omg.
Some people have way to much time on their hands. Lady, I own a 18 unit complex, in LA. Let me know when your available, again..
Another product you can use is iron out. Simply flush, add product as it’s filling. You want some of it to get into the toilet itself. Let it soak over night. Doesn’t smell all that great but it works very well.
Do we even have to clean the inside? It seems a little extreme.
I've never cleaned the inside of the toilet tank. Seems silly to me.
