Norman, that shawl is so nice! When I first saw it in your hands, I was already impressed with it, but I was really wowed when you placed it on your shoulders, because it instantly looked just as masculinely handsome as a man's sweater, which is very noteworthy, because it is not characteristic of the majority of shawl patterns available to us, as they are usually created with a woman's body in mind. I love that this is done in a fingering weight, too, because anything thicker causes me to retain too much heat. You are a great asset to the knitting world, Norman, especially as an example and source of inspiration as a content creator for other men and boys who are interested in knitting!
This was a fun knit. I was so sad when i was halfway through when it told me that it wanted to be gifted to a friend 😂 i guess I'll have to knit it again with different colors!
Gorgeous! Thank you for showing different color options. While the red, white, and black are stunning, they are not my colors. The green, yellow, and black ARE my colors and give me inspiration. Congratulations on your pattern release!

Haha…LOVE the matching socks!! I have a lot of shawl patterns but I was drawn to this one for several reasons. 1)Your attention to details. Your videos excel here, and surely, in a pattern as well. 2)I’ve never knit Latvian braids, with your explanation/s I feel confident! 3)I like how you make stockinette curling a non-issue w ribbing or other knit pattern. Genius! 4)The bold, sharp color placement … absolutely stunning! Now to find that Perfect yarn! Thank you !! I appreciate all you do regarding techniques, tips for all the knitters in the world! Your patterns are the icing on alllll the cakes (of yarn…obviously) !!🎉
yes..there is a tutorial for the Latvian braid available. In fact, a special tutorial is linked in the pattern since it's a bit tricky on the edges and in the middle.

Beautiful shawl!! Love that it has some great texture and color variation without being frilly or over complex. It's also fun to see how it changes with the color palette changes. Can't wait to make it!
Mister Norman, your shawl is beautiful, and you pull it off in such a manly way. Your main photo on the pattern's Ravelry page is so fun! I enjoy how you just let go and allowed yourself to enjoy the posing. I like that your socks complemented the shawl too. Thank you for sharing.
well...thing is..i had to! We had torrential rains that are basically flooding the whole country...so i had to have fun inside my appartment to make things work. BUt I, too, like the outcome :)
As a beginner, I would suggest to watch this video first: ua-cam.com/video/dKGNJjXs9vU/v-deo.html A simple shawl in garter stitch with a nice colorway and some bigger needles could be a bit more rewarding as a first project. BUt of course, as you said, with some dedication, this will definitely be possible!
Oh Norman!! That's just beautiful! Thank you so much for your hard work and the sustained effort you brought to this project. With gratitude! Just picked it up on Ravelry!

What we call a ‘possum’ in the southeastern United States is actually an opossum and is a bit different. Going to look in to possum yarn now. As always, love your content. Keep it up!
Opossum, my possum! But yeah, ornery little marsupials. They don't exactly play dead if they can get away with simply gnashing their teeth at you. You can absolutely learn to read patterns - much faster and easier than you think to learn them! Norman has great tutorials for this as well! You got this!
It really isn't difficult to do, as long as you are patient with yourself. The easiest way to learn how to read a knitting pattern is to do a knit along pattern with an accompanying instructional video of that pattern as a first project. Additionally, I highly recommend getting a little magnet board with magnet strips, which is also commonly used for holding and marking cross stitch patterns, as well, as it will help you to keep your place at all times, and be able to walk away and come back to exactly the right place. Even if I have a pattern sequence memorized, I still find a magnet board to be an invaluable tool for knowing exactly which line that I am on while knitting, in addition to knowing where I stopped off from the last knitting session, no matter how long it has been. This will make perfect sense to you once you begin. After you learn how knitting patterns are arranged, you will be set to attempt anything!
Not sure how you convinced me to knit another shawl when I still have two waiting to be blocked but you did! This one is much more substantial than the others and will be perfect for winter. Now I have an excuse to go yarn shopping!
Still trying to work through my first pair of socks, no thanks to shoulder issue meaning I can only do a few 10 minute sessions a day, but I bought this pattern today so I have something to look forward to once I can resume working on big projects while watching movies! Hi Norman, amazing project! Could you tell me if it's top down shawl, as you described in How to knit a shaw point 1., or you used some more advanced technique?
I have a question about the border. I’m almost to it and for row 272 it references picking up stitches for the remaining side of the triangle. I’m assuming that you pick up stitches from both of the side edges because it says you stitch in the round is there a tutorial or video on this section?

There is one over on my patreon account but you might not have access to it: www.patreon.com/posts/watch-me-finish-103352157 Also, kindly do not ask a question twice within 24 hours in two different places. This takes away valuable time for me to figure things out I could have used to answer other knitter's question.
I love the shawl and paused, bought it right away!, and can't wait to pick yarns and colors. But, I doubt I could use possum yarn. I shudder just thinking about it! Perhaps New Zealand possums are not as vicious as American possums?
Hi Norman! I love this shawl. I’ve got a question that maybe you or someone else in the community can help me with. I want to make a “patchwork” style blanket with each patch being a square with a different knit pattern. It’s kind of a progress chart for myself as I learn to knit. Is there a way to do this without weaving together a bunch of different patches? Or is that my best bet?
well...you can pick up stitches from an edge. Some find it more anoying some don't. Your biggest problem will be that each square with a different knitting stitch pattern will have a different size/gauge. And it will be a bit difficult to match them.
@@NimbleNeedlesI hadn’t thought about picking up stitches. Probably because I haven’t tried to learn that yet lol. I’m not super worried about everything matching up exactly though, because I kind of want it to look like it’s been patched and mended over a long period of time. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!

that's always a possibility! I, too, always knit my own patterns :P
