Probably been said 100 times by now, but the manual roof tool, you have to unscrew the red section, then twist the tool in to the hole, then tighten the red part, then twist the lot. You have to open/close the back one as well sometimes and it takes a bit of strength to open it, unlatching is easy but getting it to lift is quite hard. I find I have to go through the entire sequence if the roof mechanism/software gets confused. Also pressing the roof operation button forwards, let's pressure out of the system, which you need to do to close it manually
Thanks, that was great - made so much sense. I have a very similar issue with my 2008 A4 B8 Convertible, you just took me from theory to practical - will be following your steps to the pump🙏🏻
hey there. thanks for this video. I have a question regarding the trim. I listen in mine that there is something moving lose inside to the trim. to this moment the roof works great but this piece moving around and making noise its bothering me. My question is, how to remove or to pull it down a little bit the plastic trim that you need to move to see the bolts inside? any tip top?
@Roverturbo my fail safe came on with the PRNDS flashing, so i banged it on top of the ECU cover, heard a click, and it started working fine after that, so thank you for the video fir helping me find a 2 year search on this problem thank you
Just a heads up that tool you showed the red bit on the top twists your supposed to twist it around all the way until its raised quite a bit insert the tool into the hole and then twist it back that locks the tool in and then you can turn the entire tool left or right
I have a 2008 convertible a4 .the window doesn't open .could that be the reason .that the roof won't open..I genuinely am at a loss ..I would appreciate your help regards Darren
Yes, windows have to go down for roof to work. Could be anything, from window motor, switch, control module, wiring. Start by scanning the car for codes.
My window didn’t go down because the ropes (I don’t know what it’s called in English but I’m sure you know what I mean) we’re badly damaged and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately due to the ropes being damaged the window motor burned through aswell. All in all parts for everything were around 70€ on eBay and the replacement can be done by an amateur
i had a 2.0tdi manual that woud not start a few years back come in. under that box is a few relays, i remember changing one and its been sound ever since, im only a few mins in so ignore if you have already changed it
Leave it to Audi to put that battery in the worst spot imaginable under the front windshield, where if the drains ever got clogged badly and it rained enough, the battery could become fully submerged. God only knows what could happen then 🤔😏
You are all doing it wrong motor in back take out use a black marker to line up bolts you take out there are 2 spring loaded brass bars that connect to barrel that get stuck free them and use 1000 grit paper to clean brass barrel where spring loaded brass bars connect put back together...... Job done roof will work again.

Sorry don’t know.
I have a a4 b6 with the same running problem. Would it be the same
Possibly, get the codes read.

@@alanh2895 no worries. Glad you got it sorted, I replaced the relay, as it kept doing it.
@Roverturbo I've not replaced the relay yet, but banging it stopped it flashing, so I thank you for you video
@Roverturbo, im thinking of making a video for tik tok about this problem on the car. Would it be OK if I tag your channel on my video

Cheers mate, worked it out in the end. 👍

I forgot to add that this was the reason my roof didn’t work 👍🏻

Yes mate, changed the main ecu relay. Been fine.
If the pump has lost its fluid again wouldnt that indicate a leak somewhere in the system ?
Yup… part 3!
@@Roverturbo sounds like a messy episode ;-)
Lol thanks.
Have a nice weekend mister Rover
Thanks
Give the motor a good old clean when you're in there
Great video I enjoyed that, thanks
Sounds like you're crank position or Bolte needs to be replaced
That key, the red part of handle screws out & the key fits in that hole to lock in place to lock the roof
Correct

My rear roof compartment is half locked half unlocked and the manual override key won't free it. I recon audi are gonna pull my pants down
