Can't believe that car is from 2006..17 years! It still looks fairly modern to me. Certainly dosn't look dated.
I agree. It looks great from outside. The interior is a tad too old school and basic for me though. 😂
Audi designs age very well. Even an A4 B5 sedan still looks quite passable.
Even the Audi 80 (Princess Diana) Cabriolet still looks pretty modern. Would have bought one back in the day were it not FWD only
German cars don't age as bad as jap
@@bh4560 Looks fine to me. More than in fact.
You know it's going to be a good one when the "I've massively overspent" is already in the thumbnail, lol
Indeed!
not even overpised tho..
I go off the video length, if we're approaching 30 mins you know it's gonna be a good one 😂
It's an Audi after all.
Is there a T-shirt with that?
That 2006 tyre was probably the original spare
My thoughts also.
I concur 🧐
coming to think
@@danthemaninfierno
Yes, the other Hankook was in the boot.
@front2427 One you lock the target. Two you bait the line..
Great vid, the car looked nice and good value for the asking price. I wouldn't be at all worried about the paint on a car of that age, but I don't think I'd buy it without AC. It's not just for cooling in the summer, it's also great for de-humidifying the air in the cooler months. I started driving long before AC became the norm in cars, and I wouldn't want to go back to those times.
Driving 50yrs never used it
@@volt8684 Why not?
@@jonford6119 I've owned my present car for nineteen years and it's the only one I've ever had with aircon. I've used it once when I got caught in a storm and got in the car soaking wet. I've never found the need for it any other time.
I live in Portugal and can't stand aircon in cars
I’m with you. I use my air con all the. I wouldn’t buy it with no air con either.
That could have been a lot worse, it wasn't left in bay 13 this time. You can imagine the roof being jammed half open and immovable. Would have made good content though.
I used to have one, So I know you can manually put them up and down with a via access in the middle of the rear seats lol
Fundamentally, a sound car to start off with that had been well cared for albeit with some deferred maintenance. That's what I would always want to buy. The ones where you transform them are great watching, but I would always worry about buying something that had been badly looked after. This one was sound.
The Eon button when on ( red light on ) means normal heater controls. You turn off for the air con to kick in. I have an audi and took me ages to work that out! lol
Yes, it's confusing nonsense TBH.
Lovely looking car, not sure about the budget tyres though, or skimping on the A.C. fix. !!! Your usually a perfectionist Matt.
I think I'd want the aircon fixed as well but I can see where Matt is coming from given the already high spend. Budget tyres? I'd be less concerned about that. I think this is unlikely to be a daily driver, more a top down in the summer toy and probably not driven too hard. Also they (the tyres) are going to die of old age rather than wear out.
Any new tyre is a good tyre
I actually like the grill on the earlier model (and the rest of the front as well). Maybe it's boring, but it's also effortlessly elegant. This newer one kind of looks like it's melted. Still, it does look more modern and you ain't fooling anyone with the previous one since it's 90s all the way.
"The wheels are too small to kerb." Oh my wife would find a way.
🤣🤣🤣
You've got to hold the boot button on the key for 3-5 seconds for it to pop open, or double tap unlock car button and the boot unlock. Took me ages to figure that out.
I have this car in blue with leather seats, I bought because I thought it was cheap but people seem to really like it, I suppose it's aged well and wasn't cheap new.
I like the CVT on my A4 Avant. Just have to get used to it, but for commuting and relaxed driving its quite ideal. My mechanic says they are fine from 08 onwards, before that they are troublesome. Mine has 130k miles no trouble, serviced every 40k.
Mine was prior to that and perfectly fine
Had a 2004 A4 Avant with the Multitronic box and 1.9TDi engine. It got to 230k by the time I sold it on!
I know Matt rags on the DSG gearboxes, but it's really down to maintenance. The 6 speed is a very good unit. it's fast responsive and smooth.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. the one hes on about in this car isnt a dsg, its a cvt
@@cgr_doorjam0263
I know that
This really doesn't look like a car from 2006, it's aged beautifully!!
Matt popping out that cup holder took me back.. My uncle had this gen of A4 (non convertible) years ago when I was a kid, I remember being blown away by the cup holder and always wanting to play with it as a kid😂
Don’t start the engine while operating the roof as it can confuse the sensors and gets stuck. There’s a special tool next to the fuses to cycle the roof manually which fixes it. Only happened to mine once in 10 years so I only use the roof with the engine running and has not happened since.
Thought you had to stay the engine to do the roof..?
@@neilsjmcmahon I always have the engine running before operating the roof. The problems happen when you start the engine while operating the roof.
Hey man, im thinking of buying a used audi cabrio with a milage of around 200k km - 250k km. Theyre going for around 2 3k euros. Think its a good idea? And how often does the roof break?
@@yasingunaydiin Too high mileage for me. Roof reliability pretty good and pretty cheap to fix by independent specialists when I had problems.
That car has aged quite well - you wouldn't think it was a 2006. I was worried that the roof would be expensive but luckily the fix wasn't too drastic!
I wouldn't buy without working climate/ac. Needed even more in a convertible in winter. Dealer excuse there for not getting it sorted, but I understand costs were adding up.
A lot of little roadsters don’t even come with air con
@@HighPeakAutos - Then I wouldn't buy one. Last roadster I had was a Z4 and I used the AC quite frequently during hot summer days. My days of convertibles are over though. Too hot and too noisy. I don't even like cars with sunroofs anymore. I'm good with a solid roof over my head.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH We're all different; I drive with the sunroof open all the time, and have never used the a/c. I certainly wouldn't spend money on overhauling a failed a/c.
With the Econ button pressed it turns the air conditioning off to save fuel
i think you should keep it Matt after spending all that money and keep it in Spain as you were after a car to keep there it's low mileage you know it is now mechanically sorted and the mileage will not go up much .
Check the econ button - The "econ" button helps you save energy by turning off the AC-compressor - It turns off the A/C in my wife's TD5 and I think the Audi is the same!
Yes, because air con costs you about 5 horse power...
Turned out nice. But wouldnt get it with out the Air Con fixed. I think more people would want that fixed then not, and your limiting your market.
the ECON light on these cars turns on when the A/C compressor is off. so that may be why you didn't feel cold air coming out of the vents. but then i hope a mechanic would know that
Being a Manc living on the south coast I tend to buy rag tops, one of my Saab 93 Cabs aircon never worked since the day I bought it, hot days were torture inside of the car you could bake bread, drop the top yes but then the sun gets to much and rather than all 4 of the occupants favouring extras from the film Laurence of Arabia, put the top down and widows down back to bread mode ( like being in a tent on a hot day) my next Saab ( and any other cars) I made sure the aircon was cold enough freeze your nadgers off ( once bitten twice shy, and never again )
Bought a 2007 Astra Twintop last year for £1450. Had to get an expert to fix the roof for £70. Serviced it myself.
Just passed Mot with no advisories. £400 a year insurance and £240 tax.
but its an astra, the most bland car in the world
I love your laid back approach mate you know youve got a bargain there . No service in 20 due to covid .
" 2008 , it cannot be that old "
I was getting a puncture done recently and the lady next to me asked the guy if she should pump it up before driving it in ( it was going down super fast as it was the valve ). The guy responded , its a bit late for that , that tyre is from 1998.
😂😂
I still have the original tires on my 2007 Honda Fit. Only 39k kms, lots of tread left but they're obviously due for replacement. I only use it once a week and only in fair weather. It gets parked all winter. Every year I say I'm going to replace them but then I drive it and they feel fine, so I don't. I put maybe 2000 kms/year on them and only drive in the city.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Rubber gone hard & a accident waiting to happen.
Old tyre has the last owner has different alloys on and stored the originals then put the originals on to sell old rubber cannot be trusted believe me i got 3 children now keep saving the old cars
It’s probably the tactics of companies like Motorway. They offer a high price but when they come to collect the car (or when you bring your car), the buyer will subtract €300 for every little dent and defect.
Sometimes the seller has already bought another car and really needs the cash and is more or less forced to accept a at times much lower price.
Not the most honest way of doing business.
People fall for it all the time
Not my own experience. Came and looked at car and noticed a small dent that I hadn't declared so took off a reasonable amount then noticed it had full service history not partial as I had stayed so upped the offer back up😂
@@nicholashoward3681 That sounds fair and I’m glad to hear so. I don’t know Motorway (hence ‘probably’ and ‘companies like’) but I do know some companies here in the Netherlands that do have some, let’s call it dishonest, methods.
On the other hand, some sellers aren’t exactly honest when describing their car too.
Webuyanycar are exactly the same. They offer a great price online then deduct money for every slight fault on the outside of the car. When it’s a few years old you would accept it normally but they use it to get your car for cheap money. I call them westealanycar!
@@coops1964 Exactly what I meant.
A lot of times you overspend on getting the car right for resale, but that what makes you so successful because we all know buying from you the car is going to be almost perfect matt 👍🏾
Don't always like convertible versions of saloons or hatchbacks but audi are very good at it. Looks like it's worth 10k!
Matt, I used to be a class one driver, and on a MERC I ran Firestone tyres and did 120k with them. Changed them when worn out too, Triangle. Same truck, same work, same driver, they lasted, 50k, so mate be warned they are rubbish, better to be forewarned. We sent all of our unused ones back to our tyre supplier.
IMO
With all due respect Robert, Matt knows that
Triangle is another cheap Chinese Tyre
Only $ 50 each Tyre
But, it’s an 18 year old car, at a $ 3,995 ask
And not a performance version of the A4 either.
It’s got 4 new tyres, which would be a big plus to potential customers.
Unfortunately a potential buyer in this price bracket, is highly unlikely to gladly pay a high price or top dollar & No discount on the Audi, just because it’s fitted with 4 new
Michelin or Pirelli tyres that would cost $ 800.00
If Matt had fitted new Michelin or Pirelli tyres, the car would then owe him
$ 3,500.00
Instead of it owing him
$ 2,900.00 which includes the $ 200.00 cost of 4 new Triangle tyres.
He might only get
$ 3,500.00 for the car ?
Equals - NO profit !
In many other videos, Matt does spend a lot extra to fit a decent brand of Tyre….
When he probably should not, as the extra $ 500.00 spent for a decent brand of Tyre, most likely won’t be appreciated by the customer, and it takes a huge chunk out of slim margins on cars of this price bracket…
In 90 % of the videos, the cars Matt shows us in videos generally are fitted with a “ no name brand “ of Chinese Tyre…
Even on fairly late model cars, such as BMW or Benz that High Peak have traded or bought
🤷🏻♂️
Ref Tyre age . Bought a E36 coupe from Japan 15 years old and only 12,000km. Yep the tyres were original . Went to change them and the garage pointed out that they were slowly leaking air from between the tread even though they had 5mm on them.
Bet that font tyre was the spare..
That looks very nice in black and it's great to see tyres with an actual sidewall! Auto too for cruising. I had an earlier 80 Cabriolet for 3 years which I won in a raffle. It was a great car but some parts were hard to find. In the end my head was turned by some cheap Saab convertibles but an A4 soft top is definitely on my radar.
Yeah, I came here to say that. With the engine running the motors/pumps get the correct voltage.
Thats right the ECON button on most VAG stuff of that era means Economy. The idea is that you set the temprature and it will use the air con system in the background as and when it needs to maintain that temprature. Pressing ECON would stop the a/c cutting in. Climatronic. I think thats what they called it back in the day.
Geeky fact alert but early MK5 golfs and passats of that era had ECON buttons, but the later ones had an A/C button which is the other way about. So it actually confused a lot of people too.
Just bought a4 2005 cab v6.. all the work done this year.. loving it.. it's a road boat 🙂
IN Australia we have to have aircon. Even a drop top. In summer the top goes up at 9am and air on and the top doesn't come down until 5pm. IN winter the top stays down most of the time as our winter temps are about 20C during the day and a low in Brisbane Queensland is 6C. That is a nice car and well looked after.
As nice as automatic cars are I can’t be bothered with them! Especially VW group autos, manual would suit it much better in my opinion…. SAVE THE MANUAL!
Great video as always
Well Matt to evidence my devotion to the channel I know every car you have sold, restored or sadly scraped love all the car sites you sit number one
Thanks
I remember one of my mates mum had one of these brand new...cant believe its now 17 years old!
The A/C is an absolutely must, especially in the extreme weather we are facing nowadays. I would in all honesty have fixed it even if it pushed the initial price up a bit, I'm sure most potential clients will see it as such, not to mention that temperatures have reached 32.2°c in the UK this year already & will likely get worse in the few years to come.
I agree. I have owned many convertibles and having AC is an absolute must, even more than in a hard top. But then I live in Australia where it gets very hot.
Don’t buy one of those iPod adapters for £100, just buy one of those Bluetooth transmitters that plug into the cigarette lighter socket 👍 £15- £20. Got one in my L322 🙂
We have had a our S line 2008 for 15 years , sound as a pound , if regular services carried out . Down side leaky third brake light gasket , which also damages the rear number plate lights and a common fault on the pump motor for the roof , which I believe was sorted on latter models . Fun to drive and never dates , and not regarded as a chav in an old BMW .
This is a lot of car for the money, it looks great for its age, a pity about the bonnet, but imperfections should be expected with a car of this age.
This is another car you have helped to be the best version of itself, as is realistically possible.
Good luck with the sale Matt, I hope your efforts are rewarded ❤.
The Dunlop on the front would be the original spare.
Hey Matt. Love your work 👍
'I hate this era of VW/Audi battery area covers' is why I love Matt :P
I had a B7 2.0T, which got relegated to my partner's runaround when I saw sense and got a diesel for my commute. Then the roof went, so I moved it on. The guy who bought it started using it for food deliveries and then I've seen it on Marketplace for sale about three times, the last time it was in my home town, advertised for what I paid for it 4 years prior. It was on 120k plus miles and the turbo was whistling. I can see why it was moved on regularly.
Beautiful Mauritius Blue paint, grey Nappa leather, fridge in the glove box, 6-disc changer head unit. I miss it.
Matt, i bet someone already said here but the A/C in the older Audi works like this: ECON ON = AC OFF.
ECON OFF = AC ON
My 2006 c4 coupe has ice cold air con..and absolutely everything still works...costed me 1000 pounds 4 years ago...soend about 1000 in last 4 years in cambelt shocks breaks alternator starter...driving a banger like this with all the modernish bits like cruise and good climate control is great...
Much less stressful 👌😉
Had one of these. Looks better than they drive (typical Audi - designed to out-spec Opels and charge a premium for shiny bits). People hated the multitronic but I must say it is the best CvT I’ve driven.
Bro it drivers very well. Very comfortable, not noisy and massive feeling > not usual for a convertible
I reckon the Dunlop was the spare. I still have the original unused spare in our 2003 Astra convertible.
Good vid as usual. The problem of no AC is that sometimes (when I drive down to Spain and even in the UK) I found I need to use the closed roof as a sort of parasol. My MR 2 roadster was like an oven if we were going slow or in the midday heat and had to put up the roof which stopped the roasting and then we'd boil (no ac fitted) and I do the same with my Renault Wind (has working ac...changed condenser.). I'm also "I don't like having a button for something and it doesn't work "
I have a convertible without AC, and it can be unbearable on a hot day - burn with the roof down, or sweat with the roof up. If I were ever to change it for a different convertible, I'd go for one with AC
Or get a tight fitting hat
Another good video. That cars from my neck of the woods.i am a camberley Surrey man through and through. 😊
Beautiful area if I say so myself ❤.
I saw an Audi 80 Cabriolet in good nick, looked awesome.
Nothing to do with the video itself, but got to admire how you incorporate your sponsor into an interesting portion of the video. It would feel so unnatural of you just fired up a game of raid shadow legends whilst waiting for the roof to fold down.
I’ve had a 2006 Audi S4 Cabriolet that looks the same as this one for the last 10 years. No major issues with it. The rear glass comes unglued from the roof which you can fix yourself if you catch it early (google it). It’s 4.2 V8 with 95k miles and drives like it’s brand new and is very fast. I should sell it while it’s still going well, but I love it.
Have you any issues with the dreaded rear timing? I do think they are incredibly well-looking cars, timeless even. Plus with the 4.2, it’s a very rare and unique car.
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh Just started to be a bit noisy on start up
Was a tyre fitter for 5 years working summers & while I was at uni for cash in hand, always laughed when I seen the "Triangle" brand of tyres..... People always asked me if I would recommend them, I always said with a straight face "Yes they are a great tyre, a sister company of Bridgestone so they are" Customers always left happy and confident in their Triangle tyres... LOL
Another great Video Matt, There is nothing but garbage on Netflix & other streaming sites, but I always enjoy your videos, interesting and to the point, and the banter is great too! Look forward to the next video, Cheers!
Looks lovely, well worth the money, you might wanna do those central wheel thingies if you wanna get top.. pound for it.
Another car turned around, job well done. Lucky the roof wasn't all gone and the 2.0 Turbo was not drinking Oil like a sailor gin. Looking forward to the next one.
A mistake not doing the aircon , windows mist up on convertibles and I'd use that to keep them clear when it was damp
Another very interesting video. Who'd of thought that the rear window dropping was a common fault? It's a sorted motor that anyone can buy with confidence. Keep on top of the maintenance and it'll be good for the foreseeable future.
I do like your observational comments. The balaclava wearing scrambler rider springs to mind. It must be a bit cold 😁. Nice car.
Wow your eyesight is awesome, you spotted one of the tyres was a Dunlop from over 10 yards away! ..
I'm impressed
I have always been a fan of the Audi A4, at launch I thought that they looked stylish and understated and it has aged well and now looks like a classic👍👍
The TFSI engines are chain driven… do listen for chain slap as the tensioners can wear if they’re not maintained properly… they like regular oil changes
No, this generation of TFSI engines are chain AND belt driven. Never underestimate a Germans ability to over engineer something. The timing belt at the front of the engine drives one of the cams, then a small chain at the back of the engine links the two cams together.
@@JohnSmith-pq7vn ah, that’s more like the 1.8 20VT engine then. I looked at a Jetta 1.4 TSI, that was chain driven, low mileage at 55k, but it had a chain rattle… I walked away.
Nice to see one go to the car grave yard for a change Matt, not all are good but nice to see one on the channel.
Thanks 👍
Boot switch on my 2010 XC60 stopped working, the microswitch has a known issue of grease causing an issue with connections, fix is to remove the rubber boot over the switch and spray/inject solvent to wash the grease away and fix the switch or you can replace the switch and whole housing for £150 as the switch is not replaceable.
Low miles, and old tyres but not cracked indicates it has been garaged most of the time.
I agree with the air con and pollen filter on heater ,I live in the south of France and drive a Megane CC Karmann same year as the AUDI,I Bought the Renault from a Garage in Blackburn 6 years ago for £1200 ,It's had two cam-belts wheel bearings and shocks ,roof works perfectly.Only problem I have had with the roof is the panorama glass panel cracked which cost my insurance 700 euro to replace with no loss of bonus!
Motorway is a closed loop auction for traders only. The price quoted is their reserve. The winner collects. Usually tries to get some money off.
I would care about no air con much more than the bonnet having been repainted due to stone chips or whatever may have happened. And as stated in the video, the reality of ownership is the convertible ends up rarely converted so you need working air con. I understand the choice not to reinstate but I think for most people no air con would be a deal breaker at more than three grand. Sadly, there's a discernible theme that a cheap premium brand car will need repairs beyond its market value.
I am watching this video in the United States.
Where I am it is 101°F with a heat index of 108°F.
An all-black convertible with non-operational A/C sounds like a mobile torture chamber!
Matt, ECON = NO AIRCON, this is VW and AUDI thing (had multiple cars with this ECON, which does not make much of a sense...). Press AUTO or depress ECON and then AIRCON will be in working mode. Hope that helps.
Nice car although not having the air con done may come back to bite you as customers are nightmares 😂😂
IMO
As long as High Peak clearly advise that AC doesn’t work, and write this down on Sales Contract T & C’s then the buyer is fully aware, and can’t then call up a week later, after having taken delivery of the Audi, and expect Matt to then spend ( up to ) $ 1 k ? for a compressor / other parts etc, via the Warranty that a Licensed Dealer is legally required to give…
🤷🏻♂️ 😳
I proudly took a whole load of history including every service receipt from new and every MOT - the garage took it straight to the shredder - I was horrified.
Don't want to leave a paper trail when you give it a hair cut.
I've got a 2006 A3 with a 2.0T Petrol. It's done 202K miles on the original engine and still pulls like a train. It's a bit tappity at idle, but doesn't use oil. It's got some rust on the front arches, but other than that it's great. I was given it for free and hoped to get a few months out of it. This is year 3 now and it's only needed tires and an ABS sensor.
You can drop the roof during the summer unless it is raining which, as you've mentioned at the begining of the video, happens a lot in the UK :)
Crazy how covid changed the used market! I stopped selling. I wish a carried on buying. This audi. Was £1500 before covid.
Wish I could say don’t really need to sort the aircon on my 20yr old CRV because it has a sun roof 😂. It cost me £300 for the condenser, then found out it wasn’t the condenser (even though you could see through it) it was the compressor at £575 inc regas. It’s one of those do I get it done or do I scrap the car and buy a newer car. Who knows how long we will keep it,but at least it’s one less thing to worry about as it’ll probably outlast the car itself 🤣
You can buy a decent secondhand compressor for £100...just got one for my Mercedes 6 month warranty
That's expensive I replaced the condensor and compressor on my E60 bmw for £220
@@TrulyUniqueOne I suppose it depends where it’s located on the car and what has to be removed to replace it. Looking on UA-cam the front end has to be removed on our car, it can’t be dropped out the bottom or pulled out the top. So a good three hours work, that’s £180 before VAT straight away

Decent car, Matt, and profit is profit.
Matt... Like the Rolex explorer on your wrist.. Good car game and good watch game!
Had a 2006 S line from new for around 10 years, loved it, fully Audi maintained then the CVT started playing up, cost a fortune in repairs, was sad when it went but enjoyed while it lasted..
Putting cheap tyres on it was a bit of a disappointment.
I have a 2009 Audi convertible they not just for summer . find it stays warmer in winter than a hard to roof with the extra layers . O the only problem in winter get green moss groaning on the roof . Think front bumper off to get to the cam belt .
That Dunlop is the original spare Matt!
My Wife's friend (no really) bought a silver 2004 Volvo convertible for the same money - £1,200. She loves it and it does have a kind of audio cassette era charm. No mechanical issues at all and bodywork was acceptable. However, it also developed the "dropped rear window" syndrome about a year after it was bought. The fix (after an internet search) was a complicated arrangement of glue and little sucker pad clamps which to my amazement, worked exceedingly well. I think the kit was £80. In this video, are you rocking a Rolex or a Nolex?!
I'd want the aircon working myself but otherwise a lovely car!
I've actually been looking at this vehicle on Autotrader and was tempted to test drive it
I had the V6 version this car a few years ago. It had eactly the same issues. I love the repair on the back window, mine dropped as well, I took it to a specialist roof repair " sorry mate, we can't bond it, you'll have to buy a new roof - £900. Your interior is lovely, the buttons in mine went a bit sticky. Becuase of the roof I PX'ed it for Mercedes CLK 320 convertible for more than the purchase price!
