  • Heritage Trout Mapping Episode:4
In this episode, I go after the Goose Lake Redband Trout. There is a push to assign the Goose Lake Redband its own subspecies classification. However, it currently falls in the Oncorhynchus Mykiss Newberrii or Great Basin Redband category. It is a beautiful area with some beautiful trout, and I can not wait to return someday.

Nice. It’s a lot harder for anglers from east of the Mississippi!! I’ve caught all the redbands minus sheephaven creek as it’s closed to angling I thought I caught all the cutthroats (13) with bear river but now I found out there are others- 2 more.

I can imagine a lot more travel time and expense involved. I read a book called "The Search for Sheepheaven Trout" by Russell Hill before this trip. The connections between the Goldens and the trout of Sheepheaven Creek are fascinating. Congratulations on your Redbands, and good luck with the cutthroats.

I think Goose Lake Redbands are known to lighter colors, those that go out in the lake, when there is enough water there, get even lighter
