- Heritage Trout Mapping Episode:5
In this episode, I spend some time in the Warner Basin searching for another primitive form of Rainbow Trout, the Warner Lakes Redband Trout. Redbands in the Warner Basin fall under the scientific name Oncorhynchus Mykiss Newberrii (Great Basin Redband) and are closely related to the Goose Lake Redband. However, the most impressive characteristic of Redbands in the Warner Basin has to be its purplish lateral band.

Impressive fish for such a itty bitty creek. I need to go to the Warner Lakes around Hart Mountain Refuge and catch one of those and check it off the list.
Good luck checking it off the list! Thanks for checking out the video!
Got one in Oregon
Nice! I was trying to stay in California so it would qualify for the Heritage Trout Challenge. I am definitely looking forward to chasing down redbands in Oregon when I can.
Congratulations on your Warner Lakes Redband!
Nice. I caught mine in Oregon. There are many Redbands.
You should check out Trout and Salmon of North America by Dr Robert Behnke , Native Trout of North America by Robert Smith and two cutthroat books- Trottiers Cutthroat Native of the West and Cutthroat Journey through the west by Michael Graybrook. All excellent, you’d love them based on your videos. I recalled you mentioned the Evermann Report- that why I know you’ll like these books.
Here’s the redbands
Columbia Basin Redband
Fort Rock Basin Redband
Harney-Malheur Basin Redband
Catlow basin redband
Upper Klamath Lake basin Redband
Sacramento River Basin-McCloud redband
Goose Lake Redband
Warmer Lakes Redband
Chewaucan Basin Redband
Forgive me but I’m getting old and I can’t recall as vividly as I once did.
Trying to catch all species of trout in salmon in the United States, 20 years in and 9 more to go. Anyways this my kinda stuff. Good luck going forward.
Thanks, I almost ended up in Oregon chasing this one, but I wanted to catch it in California, so it qualified for the Heritage Trout Challenge. I plan on moving forward with the channel state by state. Thank you for the book recommendations. I have read almost everything by Dr. Robert Behnke, but I haven't read any of the other books. I will definitely check them out!
Good luck with your last nine trout. I hope I am fortunate enough to catch up to you.
Thank you.
Very cool Brian, enjoy the series very much
Thanks! It's awesome to hear other people find these trout as interesting as I do.
Best Video yet. That was awesome!
Thank you!
