Thank you! It is a pretty tight motor. No unusual rattles, buzzes, shakes, or anything in this one. I need to get into it and figure out what is going on with the throttle linkage so it is easier to get it to full throttle. Other than that, it's a really nice motor. Thanks for watching!
@@oldjohnnyrude8404 I'm sure you know a lot more than I, but check the leads coming out from under the mag plate going to the spark plugs. They sometimes get bent around the throttle linkage at higher advances and it keeps the motor from getting to WOT. Love your videos.
@@mikedurhan9941 That's great advice to check those. I know they are correctly routed and not hindering the travel in this case, but I have seen that happen more than once.😉👍
I agree, 24mph is quite respectable. I'm happy with the performance and it runs very nicely. I just need to get the throttle linkage fixed so full throttle/advance is not as difficult to attain. It will be a really nice motor to run once that is fixed. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. I think you will agree that new outboard motor have no comparison to the chatisma that the ol girls do. I own a lovely 1975 suzuki 9hp, and a 1978 johnson stinger 75hp. The boat its on is a 1968 swiftcraft 1500, which is 14 ft 6in. Made in Melbourne Australia. Best wishes from down under. ❤
Nice outfit you have there! 23/24 is about what mine do also. At first I thought I was gonna se another 18 going 27mph. Whew! You usually get the best out of your motors. I sure like watching your postings. thanks
Thank you. 23/24 I pretty typical for an 18 for me also. I have a few that do better than that. When I can get 25/26 out of them I'm impressed. 27 doesn't happen often. I see 26/27 out of a 22c.i 25hp usually with 28/29 on some of them on the right boat under the right conditions. I enjoy making the videos and I wish I could get on the water to do it more often. I have not had much opportunity to get new motors running in the last couple years either. Life gets busy sometimes. Thanks for watching, Dale!
Good Monday morning Ben! Just now seeing this upload. Yet another really nice looking runner! It sounds great as well! Have a great Monday! Mark in Iowa.
It's not a bad one. I need to get the throttle linkage straightened out and it will be a good one. Monday was a Monday. It could have been worse. I woke up this morning and made it through another day. Better days coming. I'll be retired one of these days. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! These are excellent motors. I have a video on this channel going over how I set up my remote controls in this boat. Check it out if you're interested. Thanks for watching!
I just got one of these with a boat I got. It is 1957 model number 15020, so should be the same. I got about 100 compression in both cylinders, but not getting spark... Where do you get parts for these?
@@jakeblood4186 I buy many of my parts from Marineengine.com. They carry Johnson/Evinrude OEM parts and Sierra aftermarket parts. I reccomended OEM whenever possible. The only possible exception currently is the points. Last I knew the OEM points were still having quality issues. I'd probably buy Sierra points, but stick woth OEM for everything else. 100psi is good in one of these 50s 18s. These are excellent motors. Good luck with yours. I have a video series that goes over the tune up process for these motors on this channel. I was working on my 1959 Evinrude Fastwin Electric Start 18hp in the series. They may be helpful to you when working on your motor. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. The prop is a Michigan Wheel PJ18. The current number for the replacement for that prop is a Michigan Wheel 012013. My best advice is to do an internet search. There are some out there. Thanks for watching!
First boat I ever ran was my Uncle's wooden Keller Craft with a 57 Evinrude 18 Fastwin. Have always loved that motor. Brings back great memories!
@@MadLudwig That's a great memory of a great motor! Thanks for watching!
Nice 18 and very quiet for a metal shrouded model. Thanks for the video.

Thank you. Yes, I completely agree that the new outboards have no character compared to the older ones. Thanks for watching!
Those older motors just sound so much better!
They do sound great. Thanks for watching!
This is the outboard on a 16 ft wooden skiff that I learned to water ski behind when I was 9 years old 1966.
Great memories! Thanks for watching!
