How to Install Double Dogs (Felling Spikes) on Stihl MS 261
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
- Today I'm showing you how to install double dogs, (also called felling spikes, or bumper spikes) on my Stihl MS 261 chainsaw. This is an easy and inexpensive upgrade you can do to your chainsaw to improve the performance.
Felling spikes come down to personal preference. Personally, I like using double dogs on most of my chainsaws because, when I'm cutting firewood, I can dig them into the bark and hold the saw straighter than I would with only one felling spike. Some people like to install bigger felling dogs on their chainsaw because they look mean. Whatever your reasons are, I hope today's video can help you install your new felling dogs on your chainsaw.
The Stihl part number for the felling dog I installed in this video is: 0000 660 0800. Check with your dealer about ordering some for you.

Have you used double dogs on any of your chainsaws? What made you want to do it?
I installed double dogs on my Dolmar 111, becouse it's way easier to cut straight. If you have them only on one side, the bar gets pulled to one side.
I agree! That's why I like using double dogs, too. Thanks for watching, man.
@@OldSchoolMillennial I ordered oversized double dawgs for my 462 right after buying it because it came with the exact size inside dawg as the 261!
@marcel hound I shopped around on Amazon. The chain catcher came with them. I don't remember who the company was.
@@SaltyMike396 you
The bolts are backwards, they should be facing out so they don’t rub on the chain as you have them mounted. You might want to check them out and follow the correct mounting. Not trying to be a pain, but you don’t want folks reversing them and causing problems 👍 Thanks Rick
Just so you know you put the bolts in backwards the nuts go to the outside so the bolts don't end up hitting your chain i just added the double dog to my ms400cm the directions clearly show the bolts coming out from the inside and the nuts on the outside of the cover
Which double dogs did you put on the 400?
There you go Rocky, getting all up in that now, how dawg? Good comment, peace 😆
Chainsaws are so fun!! A tool you can do modifications on! Thank you for making content like this
I completely agree!
I just ordered an outside dawg earlier today for my 261. I agree that that is a good size for the saw. I run an 18" bar and still have 17" of cut past the dawgs
I’m late to the show, but I just ordered a set for my ms261cm. Thanks for the info and video!
Thanks, Jeremy!
Ok now i really need to do this. Thanks for the video.
You'll be happy you did!
Your Videos are really good! They should definitely get more attention...
Thank you so much. I love to hear that feedback. We are working hard to put out valuable content. Please share! Thanks for watching.
Just what I wanted
Thanks dude!
The perfect chainsaw video. Thanks
I wish you would list the tools you are using. Was wondering about the long air gun nozzle.
Nice
Have really enjoyed your video set on the MS 261, Thanks for all the information. Are there any drawbacks to adding the additional spikes?
Thanks, Terry! I appreciate it. Honestly I have not experienced any drawbacks to adding felling spikes. I love how the saw performs with them.
I will be getting my felling spikes from eBay as the farm center where I bought the saw is not able to order the spikes for the front clutch cover 😢 and sthil doesn’t have them on their website 😫
I looked everywhere online...you cant find Stihl dogs...its a dealer ordered option.
I ordered the outside one...13.00
Doesnt come with screws..so you may want to.order those too.
Hope this helps!
like showing how to replace shoe strings.
Could you please give us the part number and and where you bought it.
Ive searched everywhere and cant find it!
Thanks a bunch.
Dennis
The part number is in the video description. I would check with a local stihl dealer first to see if they can order one. If not, I believe I've seen the same felling dog on ebay. Good luck!
Shit... That was not even close to dirty 😶
Your dogs didn't come with the nylon chain guide ?
I didn't see any in the package I received.
Part numbers would be helpful.
You can find the part number in the video description.
@@OldSchoolMillennial Thank you kindly.
@@OldSchoolMillennial he he ole Brian not the sharpest felling dawg in the bag, eh?? 🙄😀😂
