    The throttle response on that saw is incredible.

    Sounds good buddy. Nothing better than the feeling of that saw pulling hard into the wood like it wants to tear it apart

    I put the 25" light bar on the 400c, and got a 28" light bar on order for the 500i. Any weight loss is a good thing!

    I know a regular 28” - 3/8” bar weighs 3 lbs 14.4 oz and the ES LIGHT 28” weighs only 2 lbs 11oz. That extra 19 oz feels like a brick on the front of the saw. That 30% less is huge when you’re carrying it around for hours

    I just bought a new Stihl Rollomatic ES Light to replace my original Stihl Rollomatic E Standard bar for my Stihl MS 362 C-M. I was really looking forward to adding a 30% decreased weight to an already light saw further increasing the power to weight ratio of this beast of a chain saw. So I get the new light bar and immediately weigh the bare bar on my wife’s kitchen food scale, with the light bar coming in at 32.9 ounces. So then I go to the shed and change out the new bar for the old, clean up the old bar real good, because I’m going to be weighing it on my wife’s food scale, and it comes in at 36.0 ounces, a whopping 3.1 ounces lighter, or an unimpressive 10%. Now I ask myself, why did I just pay $148, three times as much as I could have for a Standard bar, to save a mere 3.1 ounces? I was expecting the bar to be 30% lighter, which would have been about a 25 ounce bar. Stihl, you lied to me!

    Hey Scheib. I put a 24 in Sugihara light weight bar on my Jonsered and it weighted a little over a pound less than the stock bar! I think a pound is a pretty good weight savings

    I cut timber with a 661 an 24 inch Oregon bar. Never did worry about the weight just the power. To me a pound isn't much of a difference compared to the price difference

    A pound doesn’t sound like a lot , at the end of a work day it is. Have two light bars for my ms 462. A twenty inch and a 28. They’re worth every penny. My ms 391 came with a 25 inch standard bar. 462 with the longer bar is lighter feeling than the 391.

    How did the light bar feel? It looked like it changed the balance of the saw (for the better in my opinion). It looked like the saw with the original bar sat with the bar tip touching the ground, whereas with the light bar it sat with the rear handle on the ground. Nose heavy vs rear heavy. I think I'd like the balance between my hands better. That saw sure pulls! Dull chain or sharp she pulls! I'm looking forward to hearing how you like the Bark Box after some use. I've been thinking of getting one and maybe some new felling dogs to dress up my old saw. ( and a new MS 500i )

    Hey Sheib thanks for making this short clip! I just bought a 500i today and had to cut up a dead tree when i got home, wow! She rips! Looks like you cut weight by 17.1 oz with light bar and about 23 oz total with that bark box! Wow! Do you use a raker depth gage for checking raker height? Im going back to the dealer tomorrow and will probably get one. The sales rep recommended i buy a "2 in 1" file system from stihl he says it sharpens better than a grinder which is what i got. Thanks for sharing!

    • @6900pilot

      They run pretty good with the standard box, I'd be weary of that bark box too. Surely stihl would have it running as a good as it could out of the factory? Also I'm hearing of hardly any gains other than noise.. I guess its OK if your saw is out of warranty.

    • @sawsurgeon
      @sawsurgeon 2 роки тому +2

      @@6900pilot Indeed they do run nice as equipped. As for running as good as it can straight from Stihl, not so much. There are always gains left on the drawing board and so the Power Hungry are going to be porting and tweaking their saws. Especially those STIHL guys, am I right Scheib? LOL
      The BarkBox should have no effect on longevity, as the program is capable of making the proper air/fuel mixture changes to accommodate it.
      Now considering performance gains, there's only one way to know for certain. If you're happy with it, I'd leave well enough alone.
      I exclusively ran vintage muscle saws up until about 10 years ago. Some of those 80-100cc saws had no mufflers from the factory...
      I was soooo happy to land my L65 Husqvarna and my MS362... Evidently just in time, as my hearing is still intact!

    Regarding them oil ports being small, could have been the machinist screwed up and used the wrong size drill on a big run of em, im a machinist by trade and seen that happen at old shop i worked at and the new shop. And it can take a while before the issue is caught!

    • @OutsidewithScheib

    Is my assumption right that the standard muffler has a spark arrestor as in a lot of small engines, and the bark box is just like a tin can with no spark arrestor. Cheers my friend

    • @OutsidewithScheib
      @OutsidewithScheib  2 роки тому +1

      Gerry the bark box takes the place of just the muffler cover which has no exhaust port. So the stock exhaust port is still there this just adds another exhaust port kind of like dual exhaust. As for spark arrestor there is one on the bark box.
