Stuff like this, this is what made me love magic. This is what makes people into lore junkies. The art, the lore, the world building, the aesthetic, I love all of Mirrodin, as well as the New Phyrexia of the Scars block. I don't know why the art of modern magic feels so sanitized, almost like it's too clean. I have a few ideas, but I don't know anything for sure. But, I do know we will probably never see stuff like this again. Art this beautiful and unique, a sorry this coherent, lore this crisp. Shame I only got started somewhere between tarkir and ixalan, since I missed out on the glory days.
Yeah, Scars was great too. Much better than March of the Machine and Phyrexia: All Will Be One. Unfortunately a lot of recent sets feel a little bland and soulless. Bloomburrow was good, but many of the others are very disposable
@@conflux2300 Honestly. Worldbuilding is reduced to what hats the same characters are wearing. I didn't like planeswalkers as a card very much, but omenpaths are terrible for story variety. They can just reuse the same characters over and over now, and then ai generate some art to come up with a few characters to fill in the gaps. Speaking of, it's not just the current phyrexian designs, most of the art these days just feels... off, somehow. Almost like a lot of it has the same fake, plastic feeling that a lot of AI artwork has. The only modern artist I really care for now is ole Seb, specially since they fired my favorite artist, since his artwork actually feels like proper art.
As a kid I never liked mirrodin (OG) blocks. The aesthetics and mechanics werent made for me I think. Returning to it though, seeing phyrexia emerge from mirridins corpse was devastating and fascinating. Too bad they couldnt write Phyrexia as it should be.
That's part of what I loved about Scars of Mirrodin block. The treatment of Phyrexians in Phyrexia: All Will Be One and March of the Machine was unfortunately underwhelming
@@conflux2300 I feel you. Innistrad was my favorite plane and it devolved into... Halloween fair? The latest sets had vampires using rose petals and red bats instead of blood. Sanitization unfortunatelly killed most of my interest in mtg.
Yeah, the last few sets have not been very memorable. I'm cautously optimistic that this will improve a little, but we'll see. How did you find my video btw?
@@conflux2300 It made me appreciate OG mirrodin more. I've seen the whole series (where you compare callbacks) and this one. Some of those videos feel like almost an eulogy combining the music and the flavor text of the cards - you can see a world dying (and this I think newer magic will also not be able to properly duplicate for a while). Id probably be interested in seeing you compare OG new phyrexia with the newer phyrexians.

Yeah, I'm hoping we get some grittier, more engaging sets soon. I have cautious optimism for Tarkir: Dragonstorm and, later, the return to Lorwyn
@@seandowney2338modern companies have no use for real talent. ❤ Seb.
Seb is the GOAT! 🐐
Greatest sets... the flavor of Mirrodin and Scars block is just so awesome
Agreed. Scars was a banger and really lived up to the original
This was when I started to play the game a bit more seriously. Also spending a good amount of my first summer job wages on booster packs :D
Fun times :D it was a good time to get into Magic
