- Most of you guys know that I have a suzuki 2.5 outboard on my kayak, I been using a expadacraft outrigger for about 2 years and it work very well, my ONLY complain is that it takes me to long to get it set up, way to many screws, to much work, now with the Hobie Adventure island parts it takes from 1 minute to 3 the most that including the motor in it, I tested hard for 4 days and I love it, CANT WAIT TO TAKE IT OUT OFFSHORE, THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

I’m looking to get into kayak fishing. Been watching diy videos for a week now on how to outriggers, electric trolling motors and gas powered. Your video is by far the best one I’ve seen. Simple and clean. I love the trampoline idea.

Awesome set up 👏🏼 I've done a lot of research and I do own an outback and have a sail and the smaller dual ama (sidekicks) compared to the longer one seen in this video. There are some things to consider for anyone thinking of doing this. If you want the best tracking, fastest, most stable kayak for use with a motor, go with the adventure island. But consider it will be the heaviest, most difficult to transport, and most expensive of the options. The PA would be a step down from that in all categories and the outback would be the smallest, lightest and easiest to Transport, and cheapest of the options but would it is not as stable as the PA, will not track as well as the Adventure island, and not have as much space as either of those. But try loading those bigger options before buying them, it does take some strong back muscles... all things considered, I went with the outback as it had the most balance for everything I personally wanted. It's size and weight is manageable for me, it paddles well, peddles very well and fast, is stable enough on its own in calm water and with the side kick ama's it's ultra stable and they are small inflatable stabilizers that can be easily stored inside the kayak when not in use, and I have the sail for distance traveling. I keep considering the idea of adding a motor but honestly i enjoy the sound of the ocean and the exercise. You might better off with an inflatable boat if a motor boat is really what you want 🤷🏼♂️. That being said, I do enjoy watching creative minds trying new things and inventing MODs 👍🏼

Great looking mount man... I'm thinking of making one using the same square tubing but on top of the hobie sidekick (for an outback) vs the AMA\AKA on one side. Just need to make a make a custom clamp to take the weight of the motor since i don't think the clamps on the sidekick are as strong as the AMA\AKA ones.. looking forward to your video's. If you just have a picture looking from the side of your motor across, thats all I need. Just trying to figure out the best way to mount the square tube over the top of the camps. Thanks Ricky!

Nice set-up. Glad to see you with a life jacket, but look at using the kill switch for the motor and possibly a leash for you to the kayak like surfers have. Want to keep you around. I’ve been kayaking for 30+ years, I seen stuff happen. Safety first. Not trying to rag on you. Just a suggestion. Keep on kayaking.

This is awesome. Solid work. I wonder how hard it is to put an AMA on a Revolution 16 now that they don't come with the threaded mounts for the tubing like the Adventure anymore. I wonder if there is enough access to reach up in the hull to put a backing plate behind the plastic so you could mount the Adventure Island AMA. A Revo 16 with one AMA would seem to be ideal to me.
All that I can tell you is that it can be done 2 friends of mine already did it on their revo, it looks awesome and freaking fast way faster than mine!

I would love to add outriggers to my wife's and my PAs. Did you have remove the rail on the rigger side? I contacted Hobie and was told in no uncertain terms they DO NOT like people doing this!! Heyho!

I say about 80,100 lbs easy i have a friend that have a similar set up and he once placed a small chair on it and took a friend out in it!
Hi Ricky! Nice setup! I’m in the process of installing an ama on my revolution 16. My question for you is how did you or how do you recommend I mount the xbar to the kayak. Did you use a backing plate or just nut and washer or screw into plastic backing plate.
I didn't need a plate because where the screws goes it was very thick and strong already but I'm not sure how it is on the Revo I would use a plate just to be safe!
I've been looking for a setup to add the outrigger to a PA. Do you mind going through the mods you had to do to get this to work in a video? That looks like Key Biscane. Haven't been there since I was a kid. How's the fishing there?
I can do that sure but once i get better i have the flu and i feel like crap, key biscayne is ok i dont really fish there much, now the tarpons are there !

Hi Ricky, quick few questions, why only rear XBARS? Also just to be sure, the reason for 2015 AKA(s) are so we don't have to bend the bar for the AMA to touch the water correct? I plan on ordering the components online, will it have all the proper screws or do they have to be ordered seperately? Thanks for the tips.
War Daddy remember u have to cut the xbar to make longer the front xbar has a round metal thing for the sail that its a pain to cut!
War Daddy yes you won't have to bend the arms much if u use 2015+ or maybe you wont have to bend them at all.

tsawyer5000 the new one is a bit faster since the AMA is a bit lighter and not so wide, The old set up have more buoyancy but the new AMA have more than what I need, I lay on the trampoline and it holds me no problems, I'm close to 200lbs !

How long is your pontoon?
Its about 10 feet , if you order 2014 or less it will be this one 10f if is 2015 or over it will be 13+feet that is why I recomend the 2014 AMA 👍👍👍

Yes the ice mule pro catch 48" not sure if they still sell this bag, my next bad will be the proyaker 48" a friend of mine just got it sweet bag 💪💪💪

floridafishhunter u can buy the 2015 AMA but is much bigger 13f long and heavy u want the 2014 AMA

15 the short shaft, but some people use the long shaft on this set up and it works fine they said !
