  • In this video, I make a fuel cap mounting ring to be welded into the top of my GSX-R Slabby Projects petrol tank to accept a flush-fit aircraft-style filler cap. I decided the best way to do this was to machine a square piece of 3mm black Mild Steel mounted on a mandrel on the lathe. It has been many years since I did anything like this on a lathe, so I made a few mistakes here and there. But in the end, it came out as I wanted it. This will get drilled and tapped to accept M6 countersink head screws once it has been welded into the tank. The reason for making this ring is because the top of the tank is not flat, it's convex and if you were to bolt in the cap without this ring the top of the tank would become distorted. This is the first style of no narration video I have ever made after discovering another channel called Simon Fordman who uses this concept. Not a bloody word or any music. I'm sure you will all approve of that.
