You might be surprised how many would stick with you for the full 5 hours. Thank you for the inspiration! I look at absolutely everything with new eyes
This is from Liz. Very inspiring, Jackie. I love how you use the gelli plate in so many inventive ways. And how you use found papers and tools - from the hardware store or outside in the bushes! Your excitement and joy comes through - your willingness to experiment and then riff off of that - going down the rabbit hole - is fabulous! I am inspired to get going on my own. I did a bunch of papers yesterday - but today is going to focus on a neutral palette. I am so excited! Thank you, again, for a fab exploration.
Jackie, this is so much fun and addictive to watch. Truly inspiring! Your sense of freedom and intuition translates into the pieces you create. Love it! 😍 Without sounding nerdy, I could have watched the unedited 5 hour version 🤓😆. Would you consider a video of you creating a piece of art with your pages from this and other videos? Would love to see how you put it all together 🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻
Hello Andrea, my fellow nerdy creative 😍 I have often thought about putting together a marathon series of works from start to finish, but then I think, "who would watch that?" Now I know that at least 1 person would, so I may have to do something with that 😂🤣😂 Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. 🥰
That would be amazing Jackie and I’m pretty certain I would not be the only fellow nerdy creative who would love to see you create your beautiful pieces of art. Thank you 😍🥰🙏🏻🤗@@PaintedPaperStudio
Thank you, Jackie for making these courses free through UA-cam. Once I found you a while back, I haven’t missed a lesson. You are a talented teacher of art. I truly appreciate you and I’ve learned so much. This lesson showed me not only ways to warm up, I also have the incentive to create, on those days when I lack physical and mental energy to create a project. I can still have playtime, following your suggestions and still be creating something nice for future projects. Thanks again, Jackie.
This is so lovely to hear, Cheryl. Mark making days are truly my favorites (ok...almost...everyday in the studio is my favorite). I hope the things you create make you happy, even on the low energy days. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Jackie thank you for this thorough demonstration of your process. It was a very liberating watch. I've been getting stuck in my mark making and now I have so many more ideas to try. You're very generous and encouraging 😂👋
Sometimes I find the torn pieces from a gelli pull are advantageous because they provide a shape that is most often organic which I didn’t have to “ think” about. Definitely more intuitive.
Jackie this is another great video! I love losing myself into mark making, so much fun finding different things to use. At first, I found myself with lots of papers, but now I’m using them in my art journals. Recently I was paired with a scrap buddy for a December project and I sent along some of my gelli prints. My scrap buddy was simply ecstatic as she didn’t have anything like it. So good use of our “art” 😊
I love this Fran - what a great idea - swapping papers with other creatives! I can only imagine how wonderful it is to open up the box (or envelope). 💜
Your smile is so beautiful and shows the delight you get from your art! All your mark making is so inspiring and full of fun! This video was just so perfect 🤩!
I really enjoyed this one 😍😍 I think the ability to make different size marks is a game changer for me. I've just done small ones. I'm not sure what I'd use them for, but using bigger sizes and bigger papers will be fun. This type of art always confused me so I didn't really do it much. Just recently I realized it wasn't about what you'd use it for, it was about just doing it. Thanks for another inspiring video ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for this Jackie. It is so inspiring, that when I go to thrift shops now I am on the lookout for mark making tools. I realize now also that it is about having fun creating these marks and experimenting and worry about how to use it later. All of your mark making looks so fabulous, I could watch this again and again it was so fascinating. Take care and stay blessed.❤
You obviously enjoyed your mark making and I was smiling all the time while I was watching you play. I liked the lines the paintscraper made, best. Sometimes it can be very relaxing not to aim for certain results. But the heap of papers I got out of my sessions finally "urged" me to do at least SOMETHING with them. As I was fond of bookmaking since I was a child, I just sewed some pages together, leaving writing space and wrote down, how I felt making them and what tools I used. When I look at the older ones now, I am often surprised and overwhelmed by the fact, that I was the person, who created them. I can definitely recommend that 🥰
Mark making is the remedy for perfectionism (I can relate). Not only is it relaxing, it is also revealing - these are the things I LOVE about exploring creativity. So glad you are here, Charlotte!
Love those vertical lines with the paint shaper 🖤🩶 love all of this goodness you created - oh my, I have a tree laden with berries right now!! Must find my pruners ... thank you 🎉🎉
I'm with you Debra! I've had a not-so-secret love affair with VanDyke brown since my days of furniture and cabinetry finishing. It just works with everything. Thank you so much for being here. 🥰
Loved seeing your mark making with a limited colour palette and your joy in the results. I enjoy this process very much, it's very relaxing, and asemic writing is a lot of fun to do and looks great in collage. My problem is that I end up with a lot of paper and then don't get to using it but I have had fun!
Just like me 😅 concerning lots of papers. 🤣So I began binding journals using them, tearing them, putting them together like paperquilts, doing slow stiching on them - that made beautiful pages in my books and gave me nearly the same feeling I had, when I was making the marks. Looking at all those marks I made, brought the gorgeous feeling back. And: I was content to have sort of a result in the end.😍
Thank you very much Diana - it really is a joyful process for me. And yes, I end up with heaps and heaps of paper, but next week's video is all about how I store them. I hope you'll watch 🥰
Great inspiration and enthusiasm! Being able to play and let go of self-imposed restraints is not always easy, but you provide a shining example of the joy in doing so. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
Heather, thank you for your kind words. I agree that letting go of those restraints can be challenging, but when you do, WOW! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 🥰
I know...I know, but I'm super attached to some of these 😂 This is the "curse'" of painting papers, right?! Thank you for watching again, and taking the time to comment, Daily Dose 🥰
Woww! Really enjoyed watching this video. I learned so much. I was excited to see the pulls as if I were doing them. I love that feeling of a great pull. Have a beautiful day & thank you so much for sharing!!!
FUN!!!! I have a piece that has me stumped. I don't know what to do with it next. I'm going to set it aside and play like this for awhile, knowing that the troubling piece will be resolved later.
Also, doing mark making with enamel paint is a kick. I have a collection of just blacks in a variety of finishes; matte, satin, hi gloss, opaque, transparent, etc. Some of them come from hardware stores and are not just the typical paints from an art supply store. Finding just the right black for your project can be a fun challenge.
I LOVE this!!! You are so right about finding the right black 😂. I hope you come back to watch, I have a video coming out within the next couple of weeks that features enamel's and latex paints 😍
What a fabulous day! Great textures and contrasts. Fabulous Collage Fodder! Thank you for inspiring me to have another day making some background papers on Saturday - when I have a day all to myself. Isn't it fun? so relaxing to watch this video. Thanks
Love all! The one with the drops of Van Dyke Brown and I think Unbleached Titanium that you rolled out the drops into blobs? That makes me think of ice cream! Yummy in more ways than one. So much fun.
That big sheet is a great idea and would provide collage fodder for dozens of works! Have been doing brayer off sheets but that is so much more detailed, gives me an idea for changing my set up!
Jackie, thanks for the inspiration, I'm now going to take a sketchbook with me to my day job, so that I can use stressful or down times for mark making... So that I can be excited to get back into the art studio when I get home to use them in my collages and art journals! Interestingly, I had slipped my mind that you don't need a gel plate to make marks... Thanks for the reminder!!
Dawn - I love that you're going to make marks at your day job 😍 I know I do a lot of things that may seem "extra" but the truth is all you need is a pencil a something to mark on. Have fun making your marks! 💜
I've just spent a wonderful moment learning how to make marks and for sure I 'll go to my studio tomorrow to make some !!! Thanks so much from France for sharing. 💖
I feel you, Red Lady! In the words of the late Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part 😍 I hope the shapers arrive soon so you can start playing with them. Thank you so much for watching. 💜
New to your channel, and after a big THANK YOU, I’m going to subscribe. I agree with some others that the whole process, maybe in a few videos, would have been doable for most. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Thank you! I learned a lot. Can’t wait to start making some collage papers in new ways-bigger marks and different tools, as well as neutral on top of neutral, and mark on top of mark.
Your welcome Rabbit! The larger marks opened up new ideas for me too - it's easy to stay with what we do most, but it's exciting to try something new on for size 💜
Right?! We don't use our old dictionaries anymore, so why not make art out of them? Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. PS - my whole family has a "thing" about pickles 😂 We have them all over our Christmas tree, we name pets after them and put them into too many meals 🥰
When I make art, I automatically go for bold, bright colors. I keep thinking about doing something neutral, but have yet to do that. I think this mark-making could be the bridge that pulls me in that direction. I do like the transparent "ribbons." That's my favorite.
WOW! What a variety of shapes and marks - just love them. Can't wait to get started on creating some of my own. As a newbie to this particular form of art I am so inspired. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Julie, thank you for watching. I feel like mark making is the perfect place to start for any newbie - it feels good, you can learn so much from it, and you can't do it wrong. Go have fun with it 😀
Thank you, Elle! I really want my videos to feel like a hangout...like you're right in the studio with me, and we are riffing on creative ideas. I hope you come back for more 🥰
You should! You really really should. A day of mark making like that is both calming and invigorating at the same time. Thank you for watching, Maureen! 🥰
I just watched this again, Jackie. And the variety of textures you made is just amazing. I have so many favourites here, but I really should have watched this video tomorrow though because I am really inspired to go make my own marks right now 😍 But I am too busy later today and time flies so fast once I get the paint open. 😭 So reserving tomorrow for marking and watching the next installment of your salsa trio series. Thank you once again for being there and helping me to remember to create freely. That part is so easy to forget especially for someone like myself. x That roll off sheet *chef's kiss*
Happy - I love that you rewatched that one and I completely understand what happens once the paint is open 😂 The great news about UA-cam is that it's always there. The next installment of the salsa series should post tomorrow at 9 AM PT. I hope you enjoy it. 🥰
Loved the demo you shared with us today! The final piece of paper was just gorgeous and I would frame it as it is--serendipity at its finest! Thank you and Cheers! 🥰
Thank you Lori - I think I am going to frame it for a while. There is so much creative inspiration in that piece, I don't want to put it away where I can't see it 😍
Great inspirational video Jackie! Thank you for sharing! I think I now know what to do with my “failed” gelli prints - make organic marks on them! Breaking up the surface with marks will definitely give them more interest!
Hi Jeanie! I love the papers that come out of mark making days - they feel like little creative gifts. Thank you for watching and taking the time to let me know what you thought. 💜
Thank you very much, Artzology! I am looking into how to do a long, in-process video. The problem is that my studio has terrible wifi. Having said that, I will find a way if it's wanted. Thank you so much for coming back and watching again. It means a lot 💜
Thank you so much. You are so inspiring and you have inspired me to give it a try. What kind paper are you using...I looked at three video with captions since I am deaf.. thank you again so much
Lisette, thank you for such kind words. The papers were newsprint, regular copy paper, onion skin paper and drywall tape - I've linked to the exact ones I use in the description. I'm really happy that UA-cam makes it so easy to upload captions. I almost always watch video with the captions on 🥰
I have stuck with you through much of my day with a few breaks. This is the most valuable tutorial I’ve ever seen in my several months of looking on UA-cam. You are my go-to for tips on how to tap into my own passions in what I want to create. Beyond appreciation for you. I would love to find a class in person around Los Angeles. Any tips❓
Will - thank you very much for your very kind words, it means so much to me. I am not offering any in-person events at this time, but I hope to soon. Have you heard of or follow Robert Szot? I love his work - he does really cool things, and he offers in-persoon classes in LA. 🥰
Me too, Donna 😂 Sometimes I get so attached to them I don't do anything with them. Other times I use a every last scrap. I need to let this one sit in my body for a bit. Thank you for watching😀 💜
Hi Cheryl, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I haven't decided what I will do with these yet, but as soon as I do I'm sure I'll make a video of it 😀
Hi Stephanie! Thank you for your kind words and for bringing up a valid concern. I know many working artists are worried about this. Here's my take. I don't worry about the longevity of my pieces because I don't have an expectation of permanence with my work. When I create it's primarily for the joy it brings me in the moment. I have no plan to have gallery representation nor have my works shown in a museum, so I don't really worry about it. When I do sell pieces, I let the collector know that some of the materials used are not archival - it's never stopped a sale. If longevity is of concern, you could use archival papers, mediums, and supplies for the mark making, too. Sorry for the long winded answer, but it's a point that I think a lot of people worry about. 🥰
Absolutely love love mark making and the neutral pallet is my favourite, I have loads, what are the papers you used? And would love to see a finished piece of your art please 😊
Hi Debbie - the papers were newsprint, regular copy paper, onion skin paper and drywall tape - I've linked to the exact ones I use in the description. When the session was finished I regretted not using tissue paper too, but I've got to save something for later 😂 Thanks for watching!

What a genius way to look at it, Nancy! I couldn't agree more. Thank you for watching 🥰
In another video could you show some of the ways you might use these neutral marks? I.e. in collage, acrylic paintings, etc. ? Thank you.
Hi Jackie…I could certainly watch you create for five hours….your art is fascinating and so educational….love every piece you created….❤
Thank you Patricia, that's very sweet! 🥰

You nailed it, Kricket! It really is about just doing it. How (if) you use any of it later will work itself out. 😀
Like you, I was mainly using small marks. I’m eager to start making collage papers with bigger marks and a wider variety of tools.
Thank you so much for this Jackie. It is so inspiring, that when I go to thrift shops now I am on the lookout for mark making tools. Thank you Jackie, I want to try all of these! I get frozen by perfectionism so I think mark making like this will help me loosen up ❤

Ditto! I just uncovered this gem of a video and enjoyed it immensely! TFS
I especially LOVE the textures on the black and white sheet which looks like tree trunks!

Hi thanks for showing these techniques. Can you possibly show us how you use your newsprint in your artwork? I would love to see some of your work.❤

New to your channel, and after a big THANK YOU, I’m going to subscribe. I agree with some others that the whole process, maybe in a few videos, would have been doable for most. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Welcome, EJ! Thank you so much for being here. I can't help getting carried away when mark making 😂
So inspiring, Jackie! Marks so simple, but I never thought of them. Thanks for this illuminating video.
Thank you, Barbara. The simplicity is what makes it so easy to get "out of my head" when I'm working. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. 🥰
I got an old dictionary and started with you. Soooo fun!!!! I have some gorgeous prints and yes I lost myself in the process too. Thank you 😊 💓
Wonderful, Veronica! It's exciting to try new things (especially colors) - this neutral mark making session poened up new thoughts for me. 🥰
Go have fun with it 😀
Wow! This is an incredible display of marks! Im hooked now to your channel...... lets see some collages made from these...???pretty please! 😍
Thank you very much, Tamara! You'll see some collages soon. 🥰
I like the marks with the white Posca pen.
Posca pens are so fun to use! Thank you so much for being here. 😀
I saw this as a wonderful hangout! Sooo fun! Thank you!
Thank you, Elle! I really want my videos to feel like a hangout...like you're right in the studio with me, and we are riffing on creative ideas. I hope you come back for more 🥰
Thank you SO much for sharing!!!! I love mark making as well! Thank you for the inspiration!!! SO many possibilities !!! Great marks!!!
Right?! There are so many possibilities they almost make my brain hurt, but I love having them around. Thanks for watching Kath 💜
So much inspiration! Thanks so much! I love your work! I appreciate that you share your process and encourage everyone to try things out!!😍😍😍
Thank you, Catherine - and yes, I hope everyone who watches tries new things. I think it's the most exciting part of creating. 🥰
So enjoyed watching this thank you for the amazing inspiration . I really must have a try.
You should! You really really should. A day of mark making like that is both calming and invigorating at the same time. Thank you for watching, Maureen! 🥰
😊💖Great marks! The paint shaper ribbons and your scripting tapes were two of my favourites…thank you!
Thank you, Darlene! The scripting tapes were such a fun surprise! 🥰
Love smeary lines too❤
3 thumbs up! Loved this video! Thank you!
Thank you, TeeCee - I love hearing that! 😀
Thank you!
❤
You're welcome, Linda. 🥰
I just watched this again, Jackie. And the variety of textures you made is just amazing.
I have so many favourites here, but I really should have watched this video tomorrow though because I am really inspired to go make my own marks right now 😍
But I am too busy later today and time flies so fast once I get the paint open. 😭 So reserving tomorrow for marking and watching the next installment of your salsa trio series.
Thank you once again for being there and helping me to remember to create freely. That part is so easy to forget especially for someone like myself. x
That roll off sheet *chef's kiss*
Happy - I love that you rewatched that one and I completely understand what happens once the paint is open 😂 The great news about UA-cam is that it's always there. The next installment of the salsa series should post tomorrow at 9 AM PT. I hope you enjoy it. 🥰
Loved this video and am inspired by it! Thank you!
Thank you, Diane - I'm so glad you're here 🥰
Loved the demo you shared with us today! The final piece of paper was just gorgeous and I would frame it as it is--serendipity at its finest! Thank you and Cheers! 🥰
Thank you Lori - I think I am going to frame it for a while. There is so much creative inspiration in that piece, I don't want to put it away where I can't see it 😍
@@PaintedPaperStudio ❤👍
I'd love to see how you use some of these papers in a composition
Thank you for watching Claudia. I have already used some in other videos, and have more to come 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio great I don't want to miss any of these videos
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 🥰
Great inspirational video Jackie! Thank you for sharing! I think I now know what to do with my “failed” gelli prints - make organic marks on them! Breaking up the surface with marks will definitely give them more interest!
OMGosh, *yes 100%* to this, Cindy! What a great use for "not ready for prime time" prints. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 🤗
Absolutely loved this video and the mark making. All the papers were so amazing! Very inspirational to me! Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it Patricia, and I hope you get to spend some time mark making this weekend 😍
Fantastic video. Love it!!! I'll be making marks tomorrow. You've inspired me big time
Thank you Lulabelle - have a great time making marks tomorrow 🥰
Fantastic!! Enjoyed your process, the results, fantastic video!
Thank you very much, Lorie - I'm so glad you are here!
❤thank you ❤so many great papers ❤
Hi Jeanie! I love the papers that come out of mark making days - they feel like little creative gifts. Thank you for watching and taking the time to let me know what you thought. 💜
Beautiful!🎉
Thank you, Andrea! 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ super inspiring. Thank you!
Thank you, Carmel for the love! Mark making days are such a great way to spend time creating. Thank you for watching 💜
Wonderful video. I want to do a monochromatic journal so this is full of helpful ideas. Thank you.
That's a great idea Bad Bat! Now you've inspired me to do the same 🥰
I enjoyed this video so much and watching you mark your papers. Could have watched for 5 hours lol! ❤
@@PaintedPaperStudio Thank you so much for turning me onto Robert Szot. I’ll start studying him next.
Thanks. Eileen.
@@willcarney4424 - Thank you for the name correction, Eileen - I'll do my best to remember 😀
Brilliant!
Thank you Annalise 🥰
Can’t wait to see what you create with these!
Me too, Donna 😂 Sometimes I get so attached to them I don't do anything with them. Other times I use a every last scrap. I need to let this one sit in my body for a bit. Thank you for watching😀 💜
Absolutely love this. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m totally inspired x
Thank you Skylight! I'm so happy you are here 😀
I want to see a collage you’ve made with these papers.
Hi Cheryl, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I haven't decided what I will do with these yet, but as soon as I do I'm sure I'll make a video of it 😀
I absolutely LOVED IT ALL ❤❤❤
I'm so glad you did. Thank you for watching and taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it. 💜
Love your mark making! I’m wondering if we should be concerned about the longevity of the papers because of the acids they may contain?
Jackie, such a great video! I am feeling inspired once again and have become a new subscriber to your channel. ❤
Thank you Debra - that means so much to me! 🥰
Thanks!
Linda, I appreciate your kindness and generosity. Thank you. 🥰
awesome!!! so inspiring that I worked along with you all day! :) such a freeing art play day :) thanks!!
Love hearing this Dawn! 😍🥰😍
Love it!!!!!
Thanks Mick, I really appreciate it! 😀
תודה!
תודה על התמיכה בערוץ שלי!
