I can't say it enough times, Jackie ~ My Saturday ritual of spending 30 +/- minutes with YOU, in your creative space/head/soul is the most wonderful time of my week! All 3 of the collages turned out fabulously, and were so much fun to watch! You are so generous to share all of the thoughts in your head while you elaborate on every step you take, and that is so edifying, interesting and thought provoking, so thank you!! My observation ~ The "bales" of hay ended up looking like large boulders once you created the depth and texture!
Thank you, Deanna - I think you know how much that means to me. You are right about the "bales" (thank you) of hay looking like boulders in the end - and I think I liked them better as that 😍
In Germany it is 7.30pm now, when I finish watching your video Jackie. What a wonderful way to end this sunny fall day. I like your collages a lot, because the colors and shapes speak to me, make me travel. And a thought came to my mind, that the way you created these three collages so to say simultaneously, is a gorgeous way to free at least three parts of your art personality at the same time. And allow them to express themselves and free their inner pictures or landscapes. The way you reacted also showed, how healing and encouraging this process can be. I mean the devotion to your intuition. This video was a big profit for me. Thank you so much. xo Britta
It doesn’t matter what you put down to get started. INTUITION and PLAY are embedded in my brain because of your ‘teachings’. THIS is why I enjoy watching and hearing your ‘theories’. Thx for explaining the difference between the PVA & gloss medium, for saying not to overthink, get a sense of composition, create a happy end result & enjoying the process. All these are so important to remember. BTW, Luv the combos for these 3 collages.
As a longtime landscape artist I have been inspired to begin working on collage for a change and to express more intuitively and your videos have helped me expand my "horizons", thanks for sharing your talents and methods!
You can be so proud of your three beautiful collages, Jackie! I like them all 🤩! I'm trying to catch up with all your latest art studio sessions ... I'm terribly lagging behind ... but will do my best 🙂. Aloha from Berlin & a wonderful weekend to you ❤🧡💛💚💜
One more thought, the darker piece you added the lighter blue paint to ~ I love that piece upside down, it looks like an Alaskan terrain landscape with a sunset/sunrise sky. The piece you call goofy reminds me of an Arizona desert landscape with a armless Saguaro cactus amid yucca, ocotillo, chuparosa, etc. So pretty! xoxoxo
Aha! Now I’m excited to use my own gelli prints ! One thing I’d advise is that you pull your tape off at an angle and you should have less paper tears. And you can also get some super-light painters tape at the Home Depot.
Hi Jackie! I’ve been an artist all of my life and I’m 75 yrs. old. I just found your fabulous channel. I love the way you create, so natural and humble, and your techniques are wonderful. I love learning from other artists. Thank you for sharing your gift🩵🩵Oh, and the hay is referred to as round bales here in Ohio.
Thank you Cheerio! (Don't be mad - that's how my brain read your name at first, Cheri 😍😂). I appreciate your lovely comments and it means so much to me that you've not only taken the time to watch my videos, but to send me a note as well. Thank you! 🥰
@PaintedPaperStudio thank you, have a BLESSED day. Getting ready for a trip to Amish country here in Ohio today taking photographs of the fall gorgeous colors and seeing the Amish people!😍
Another wonderful creative journey with you Jackie. Thank you 🙏🏻 Echoing another creative’s comment, the hay bales became boulders and the landscape reminded me of Dartmoor here in the south of the Uk. Love all the pieces and a very helpful lesson in values and composition when you layer darker and lighter tones. I’ve been struggling with abstract recently and will give collage a try as I think it will help with overall composition. As much as you are working intuitively, the placing of the pieces seem more purposeful compared with the flow of paint application, if that makes sense? So very grateful for all that you share here on your creative journey 🙏🏻😍🙏🏻🤗
Thank you, Andrea! You bring up a very good point that I had not thought about before-composition does come together (for me) much more easily with collage than with paint. The shape of the pieces of paper has a structure that can give a starting point. I'm going to pay attention to the next "intuitive" painting to see how I feel about the composition coming together vs. a collage. 🥰
Love these! I would like to offer a suggestion about removing the tape. If you pull the tape away from yourself at a 45° angle, there is much less chance of tearing anything from the collage (or even just paint).
LOL, we call them that here, too Sasha - my brain just went on a holiday while filming 😂 Thank you for reminding me, and also for your kind comments. 🥰
I am not eloquent enough to add to those fabulous comments already made, except to say that your joy is so cute 😆. These are great pieces, the "living desert" looks, to me, like a beach scene, with many surf boards propped up in a pile!! Thank you 💙🩵🧡💛
loved the composing of these intuitive, spontaneous collages... loved to see your process... using all of the papers you've created over the past episodes.
Jackie, I loved this so much! I've experimented with collage, but want to return to it. This inspires me. I love your idea of cursive writing, turning 90 degrees and writing over. That was brilliant! As you were creating these, what came to my mind (and yes, I saw the desert in that one, and the two different landscapes in the others) was when I took a train trip across the top of America between Illinois and Washington for the two mountain/hill landscapes. For the one with the haystacks, it took me back to Wisconsin at dusk, and the other near Montana. I mentioned last week when you were creating your papers I decided to just watch, and not multitask. I constantly multitask (which is draining). I decided to make a point while watching your videos to just watch (with a cup of tea). I think this will change my life and my focus! 😉Thanks so much.
Oh my goodness, Mary - I love everything you've written here, but mostly the part about not multitasking. It is something that I am very concerned with, too. As for the handwriting over the handwriting - I taught myself how to do that when I wrote in my journal. If I had to get something out of my head, but didn't want anyone to read, I'd do this type of handwriting. Now I just do it because it's a cool design element. Thank you for making my day! 🥰
As usual, I absolutely love what you created and the process of creating them. As someone else said, this is the highlight of my week. We have a living desert here in Southern California and that’s what I was thinking as well! ❤️
Thank you, Cindy, that means so much to me! I got the name/location wrong in the video, but I have heard that there is the "Living Desert" here in SoCal. I haven't been but would love to visit it. Have you been? 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio it’s been literal decades, but I loved it. They have all kinds of animals and interesting plants. It’s beautiful. Hubby and I need to go again.
Hi Jackie - very inspiring to watch you working. I passed by the live but - I don't know - too many people. But I'm watching along and taking ideas. Thx. Jackie
You can easily remove the tape by first blowing over it with a hairdryer on the lowest setting. Then immediately remove the tape. I hope it is helpful.

Hi, Jackie! I think in all the videos I've watched so far, you've used Liquitex either glossy or matte medium; what made you use the Lineco adhesive instead on these collages?
Great question Katja! I typically use Liquitex matte medium and Golden Gloss medium, but sometimes I get a "wild hair" to try something else. I don't use the glue very often because I HATE the way it feel on my fingers. The other mediums don't feel that way so I use them more. 🥰
Oh, good! I just thought I might have missed something important about "this" adhesive on "that" paper or what have you. Please don't glue your fingers together! 😅
Great question Liz! My process is based on trusting the (very) subtle feelings I have when creating. If I have a specific urge, no matter how subtle, I try to trust it and follow through. If the action from the urge fails, I re-start with the next idea that feels good. Creating, for me, is the pursuit of good feelings - it's the process, not the results. Does this help? 🥰
