      Its not about that. Its about you beeing able to call someone "master". Same principles in the military. First day you need to answer your superior Yes Seargent! Same here. Its not about the seargent and master wanting to be called that, its about you letting your ego go.

    • @pepega8319
      @pepega8319 4 роки тому +21

      @@Avean No, you say you practice martial arts but call someone master. There is a difference between a sensei and a master. A sensei is a teacher, a master is someone that doesn't exist. If you accept being called master, you probably are not a master. It is not the same principles as the military, it is an entirely different culture and is not even close.

    • @Avean
      @Avean 4 роки тому +8

      @@pepega8319 Its the same thing. In Asia they use "Sifu" which translates into english as teacher or master. Thats why in most martial arts dojos you will hear students calling theyre teacher Master but the meaning is truly just "Teacher". In our dojo we use "Sifu" but it varies a lot.

    McDojo checklist:
    Different colored Gis✅

    Terrible forms✅
    Look mate, I respect you as a fighter, but your dojo is super dodgy. This “test” just looks like any other training session, and the “black belts” are complete jokes, although it shouldn’t be that surprising considering that most people in your school don’t even know how to bow properly.

No matter how much others choose to ridicule and put down this stuff that he choses to do, the dude is out there doing something that's 100% honest, being tested without being able to fake or bullshit your way out of. Why are there so many clowns in this comments trying to put down this man’s work. Most karate is not going to be helpful in a street fight that’s not the point. Boxing, jiu jitsu, Krav Maga, etc is more about that. Karate, Tae Kwon Do is about developing you as a person and building confidence to engage if needed. This guy did 22 forms, that alone is crazy because of the amount of time to practice and memorize this stuff. Much respect for the work you put in. The better you are, the more haters come out from behind a keyboard. Bunch of 9th degree keyboard grandmasters

    • @AxeTrophy
      @AxeTrophy 4 роки тому

      TL;DR: From a karate perspective, there's still loads of improvement to be gained regarding core, torso and chest control.
      The good parts: The guy is obviously fit as hell, has tons of sparring experience, would probably beat most opponents and has experience in a wide range of martial arts (which is more than could be said for most).
      That said, the fact that he's using a belt grading system, in which he mentions that he's also doing karate, makes it easy to compare the technical aspects of his movements against those who solely practice karate. I've graded up to first dan karate and over the years I discovered these rules of thumb for easy measurements. The goal for first dan would be to gain mastery over the hips and shoulders, for second dan it would be mastery over the muscles above the midrif (being able to isolate the proper muscles necessary for each movement and completely relaxing antagonistic muscles), while for third dan it would be to gain mastery over the muscles below the midrif. Each part requiring integration with previous parts.
      Fourth and fifth dan is expanding on those skills (e.g. the proper breathing for each particular movement), and at that point everything should look both powerful and effortless (some compare it to the flow of water). This leads to the parts which receive criticism (i.e. require improvement), and which are particularly explicit at 2:00, which are that the power of his movements originate from his arms/chest as opposed to his core.
      *Note* The true goal of practicing forms is to allow the brain to form the necessary pathways to allow for the mastery over hips, chest and core. The growth that Faze sensei can still achieve in those areas, for a fifth dan exam, makes me feel iffy (which is probably also the same reason in those who criticize). A suggestion I would like to give to Faze sensei is to gain experience in/take ideas from the forms taught in the karate curriculum. In which each form specializes in teaching one aspect of martial arts.

      Axel G I don’t completely agree with what you are saying. Those Dan progressions you are mentioning depends on your discipline. I would believe that everything you are saying should be constantly worked from color belt progressions up black belt progressions. He is going to lose some power and technique after demonstrating 22 forms after what they had to do before forms. Everything about karate is about knowledge, growth personal and physical, discipline, etc from a general philosophical perspective. Again every discipline is different and for people to criticize him without going through what he specifically has no place to do so especially in such condescending manners. JMO

      @@veladpm "He is going to lose some power and technique after demonstrating 22 forms after what they had to do before forms."
      Hence why I used the word 'mastery', because you should be at the level where tiredness shouldn't affect that part anymore.
      "depends on your discipline"
      I did specifically mention karate, in addition. Movements are movements, whether it's boxing, karate, muay thai or something else, the principles of a punch and kick stay the same. The only outlier that I know of which uses a different way of generating power is Wing Chun (which uses a wavelike motion through the center).
      "I would believe that everything you are saying should be constantly worked from color belt progressions up black belt progressions. "
      Definitely, that said, there are clear benchmarks, because to be able to use one thing, you need to have the other already fixed. Your stance should be fixed before you can learn how to use your shoulders.

When I took my black belt test for Krav Maga it was 2hrs. just like you, I had to do a regular class as warm up which was an 1hr. then after the class which was pretty taxing my test was right after. I had to do drills with multiple attackers, all the counter attacks drills, weapons defense and attack (knife, bat, and gun). after that it was BJJ for 15 mins with 3 opponents back to back. then boxing, then kickboxing. my legs cramped up several times. again congrats to you man. oos

    Thats cool. I remember my black belt test for my second stripe (technically third) was 3 days long. you do not get to go home. whatever you bring is what you get to use ie. change of clothes most important food easy to eat fast disgusting. only thing instructor provided was water ( nice enough to bring these fruit cups which were a life savor). Pretty much got there Friday at 5. taught his classes till 10. then training began till 3 where you then do 3k jump ropes 500 situps 300 push ups then you can eat and sleep. got up at 630 did the same thing 3k jumps 500 situps 300 pushups. did some drills then went to the mountains and he dropped us off at the bottom where we had to bike all the way to this helicopter landing pad(hardest part of the test) legit took me 4 hours of straight biking up these steep ass roads. i cheated and walked my bike some nasty hills. basically it was 3 days of hell where you get little to no sleep and do not get to go home till it is done. by the end of the test you feel a sense of euphoric uplifting like leveling up. Was so fun. he had a few black belt students that went to the navy and said they rather do boot camp hell week 3 times than do this once.

      I don’t know why but I just don’t agree with that. I’ve trained karate for 6 years from 8 to 14 and I had my brown belt at a single academy. I then moved and decided to try the local academy. There was like a dozen black belt that were like 12 when I got there. I think I lost 1 spar against this one beast the first week. I just couldn’t stay there. They allowed you to test every month and they offered me my red belt test the second week I was there. So I dropped it and now I do bjj. Just something about young kids getting these black belts when I know they don’t have the physical or technical capacity that should be required.

    Great job Sensei, and gratulations. As a 3dr dan ITF TKD and a Goju BB, a farmer Amateur boxer, high school wrestler, and one who also spent 5 years under a Kali master learning their system, and now at 55 on my BJJ and Judo BB journey, I have been exposed to a number of different schools and systems. Although I teach, I consider myself a life time student more so than an instructor.
    Its taken me more than 40 years to learn to ignore comments from the haters and the self proclaimed no it alls, that typically know little. First of all let us remember that Martial Arts regardless of your system is all about respect, which unfortunately, there is very little of across different systems these days. The BJJ guys think they cannot get punched or kicked and get not get knocked out, thus making there BJJ and wrestling useless. The TKD guys think they have the best kicks, the Goju guys think they know everything about stand up self defense and that everything else is a joke. I watched your promotion video, and I saw it all, boxing, karate, TKD, some nice grappling, with amazing control, not to mention great conditioning and heart.
    Bottom line, no one should criticize other systems because no one knows everything about every system, as no one will ever live long enough to master them all.
    Oss, stay strong young man and enjoy your journey. (Bow)
