Some common memory card errors might be: card error - not formatted, card is full, card not initialized, this card cannot be used, memory card is locked, etc…..There may be different reasons why your camera is not reading your sd card.

In this video, I present 6 solutions for how to fix camera sd card errors. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these methods will work for you and your misbehaving sd card, but you may just find a fix that works.

A lot of these methods will fix an sd card error but if they do not......you may have to purchase another SD card. SD cards are fickle and sometimes they don't work, that's just the way it goes. my sd card was giving me an error only when used on my camera, like it locked or something, but on my laptop worked perfectly fine. And i tried the unmounting it, remounting it again on the camera, and tried a few times messing with the lock button on the side of the sd adapter and that did not work, i even tried with a different adapter but it didn't work, however, after trying all this as listed, i waited for a few minutes as i was doing further research and bumped into this vid and i guess waiting was the solution now it works in my camera as well and i was able to take photos and record vids. Thanks for this lol def saving it for future reference.

hm none of the things i tried helped, it was kinda like i followed the steps here, but then it still didnt work, so i left my camera alone for a while (i turned it off), waited like 5 minutes, and then i turned it on, and it worked, i have had it throw the same error message on screen even after a while of using the camera, and all i do is i turn it off, and back on and it works normally, or if i turn it on and it still shows the same error, i turn it off, then i take the card out, put it back in and turn it on and it works so if you come across these issues you could try doing these two tweaks. lmk how it goes for you, good luck@@Genesis_simms

Barry--can you imagine the hours of headache you saved me? The first tip worked! And although my card was not locked, i decided to go out on a whim, and i moved the lock switch back and forth once on the SD card, blew on the back side of the card, and wa la! It works.

Thank you, I just needed to reboot the camera when the micro sd card was in it and it worked.
Thank for making this video! You just saved me a lot of money and worry. I tried cleaning my SD card-no luck, I tried blowing into the card slot- no luck. I keep repeating this with no luck and resigned myself to having to pay someone to fix the camera. For some reason the next morning, I decided to give blowing into the slot one more try. This time I blew several times into the slot with greater force than before. Voila! The camera started reading the card again. So if blowing doesn’t work initially, try blowing really hard. Thank you thank you!!
Thank you for watching. I don't really recommend blowing into the card slot. When you blow, you don't just expel air but also saliva which can damage the contacts inside the slot. You are better off using a lens blower or air duster (can of compressed air). You don't want those contacts corroding. 🙂

A small variant on your turn the camera on and off fix... Just turning off and on didn't work for me, but turning off, removing the battery, removing the card, then re-insert the card, then re-insert the battery then turn on, worked! Mine actually stopped working after a firmware upgrade, so the card was fine, but the camera wasn't happy with it for some reason.

Good points all, however, I believe my error message problem is because my old Canon S5IS can't go higher than 32GB. I was putting a 128GB card that I'd used in a much newer and more pro camera into it. Good to know.

I totally recommend the tip Nr 6 😅 after a numerous errors topped with anger I was about to threw the camera away too not just the cards 🙄 I have 5 SD cards and non of them are recognized by the camera and I can't format any in the camera either so I feel like in my case the camera is the drama queen. I just SEEMED to get mine working today by doing the old NES "blow" trick now! My old card couldn't be read, and just assumed went bad, so I got a new one, but had the exact same problem. Some dust did seem to emerge from the DS slot, so hopefully that was the problem. Not that I can't buy a new camera if needed, but would rather not have to go down that route if it's not necessary with that being said though! XD

Thank you for your help, so l bought a new SD card and when l put it on my camera it was saying it can not access the SD card. I was so frustrated because l thought its a brand new card and there is no need to format it as its brand new. Anyway l formatted it on the computer and it worked wonders. Now its working 👍 Thanks

I was in an accident and unfortunately recording did not occur and i thought SD and camera had stopped working. 😫😥

Make sure you check if the card size was compatible with your camera. That is one fix I didn't include in the video.

Thank you for this video! I did the first step but it put the card in protection mode. I have a 128GB I’m thinking maybe it’s to large for the rebel xsi that i have. I might to purchase a 32 or 64 GB
Got 1 card that won't work in my SX50HS a 16Gb Sony 40mb/s. It's a decent card I always keep in the bag as a spare, it works fine in my 70D and 6D and it's a mystery. Point 6 should be check the card in another camera first before throwing away. Good video though for the novice.
Had tried all but the last suggestion before getting here. Card worked fine on the Laptop but not in the camera. Stuck inside so cannot access a new card.
Problem was a small bit of plastic had bent across one pin. Pushed it back and all is good.
I like your screen shots of magnificent birds ...that's what I'm doing... I checked another card to make sure the card is the problem first .other card was fine. Darn I like this 8 gig .perhaps it's run its course .

If you are shooting bird photography, I suggest using a card larger than 8gb. If you are shooting with continuous shutter, as you should be with birds, you'll find that a small card like 8gb will not allow you many shots before the camera's buffer kicks in.
A bigger card such as 64gb or higher will get you more shots before buffering. Check the links in the video description for cards I recommend.

It solved my problem it read lock on camera and error on Mac for the erase format card step soon as I noticed that lock slipped into place (thanks to you) everything was back reading and working I can’t believe I didnt examine the card physically I kept thinking it was a coding issue or something lol
