This is the "real" of off grid living. I am proud of you both for showing it! Off grid living is not always rainbows. Keep your head up and stay strong. You both got this!
My oh my. It’s been in the high teens/low twenties over here on the other coast. Winter is running late here and after this video, I’m not looking forward to it. It is scenarios like these that test your mettle with the issue, while also as a couple. You persevered and are now stronger for it. This is a great video for anyone considering going off-grid. It isn’t always as glamorous as many channels make it out to be. Well done!
I love this episode because mama your serious about this problem getting resolved today!!!!! Lol love the real regency of the moment I was very young once and it was very fun and exciting for the problems of the day to go away by good problemsolving people
My problem is the same my shallow well is 1/4 mile down the hill from my new 800 sq ft Red Barn that looks like the Dutch gambrel roof style barn. It’s so cool and I love the on grid electric power hook up it only cost me $8179 US DOLLARS TO INSTALL UNDERGROUND POWER FEEDERS FROM MY NEIGHBORS POLEBARN A MILE NORTH. The Red Barn is built to be a 16x 20 loft and a 12x 20 garage and a 12x20 eat in kitchen and living area. The water well is far down the hill and the eco toilet needs to be dumped once a week. But the place is beam construction and the structure is solid! My off grid cabin is downhill from my Red Barn and it is pure red Michigan pine a very hard wood for pine trees. My place is great and I love vacations camping up north by winters are in the city south Michigan where the winters are milder and the Krogers is walking distances from my house 🏡
Our fingers are crossed that this works for you. We really love your show and look forward to every episode! This is our favorite show on UA-cam. Hang in there!!
Water being so important and that tank has been a PITA, if feasible, that first springtime task is a new tank with appropriate fittings. Expenditure may be worth it but all the best to you both.
Yup. It's practically impossible to weld polyethylene without the specialized equipment ($$$) to do so. That's probably why you got a deal on that tank.
Would definitely have suggested water projects in warm weather plus if in budget, leave old cistern in place, buy new cistern and fittings and put in entire new one in before disconnecting old. Just for anyone else thinking of doing this. Great perseverance.
I am soooo very proud of you two! You are conquering the obstacles! Blood sweat and tears. In the future when you are sitting on the couch drinking your coffee after a hot shower, you will always be able to remember the hard times an how you over came it all. God bless
Both of you are just incredible and you don't give up and overcome even when it looks so grim but there is always a good ending. May the Lord bless you both,I am looking forward to the next episode.
It’s at times like this when we’re challenged and things are against us that we find out who we really are. Keep going both of you, remember why you’re doing this, and that you do things like this because they are hard. There would be no sense of achievement if it were easy. What you’ve achieved so far is a tribute to you both. Sending positive energy from across the pond.
This is what I love about y'all. You don't sugarcoat your off-grid adventures. This is the real thing. Which isn't shown on some other homesteads. I love this channel.
Some may say that y'all are whining and crying but I am glad you show just how difficult this is. Anyone watching that is about to do the same needs to see the difficulty level so they can decide to do it, get help or hire someone. This is a great tool for them to help decide their situation. Thank y'all very much
Wow! Frozen tears!! Your soo strong. I'll be 70 in April and my husbands 75. We've had many rough times too, but made it thru because we have each other. Soo proud of you both. Thanks for sharing the ruff times too. Hope all went well.💕
The two of you are doing a great job of showing what a loving relationship is all about. You have your youth on your side and it will get better with time. I am 67 and building a house and living in a travel trailer while we build so I feel what you are going through, sometimes it can be overwhelming . I enjoy your videos and seeing your progress so hang in there and I hope you get that water running soon to give you more comfortable way of life
You guys are doing such a great job. There are so many people out here that are envious of what you two are doing. I love watching your life moving forward everything is possible when you work together. Loving it.
Proud of you guys, when the going got tough, you got tougher and over came the problem. This shows that you 2 can over come any hurdle. Keep your chins up. Looking forward to your next video.
You two are doing great Katie, you don’t have the easiest piece of land to work with but you always find a solution. There are much brighter days ahead for you both, so soldier on and then look back and smile. Best wishes, Gerry.
Everything don't go according to what we want we get frustrated stressed but when we sit down and think about things it'll turn out okay I am proud of you guys keep warm and safe GOD BLESS
Awesome video guys. I'm 70 and I've seen my share of life challenges. I thought you guys handled it quite well. Keep growing with these obstacles. Thanks for sharing.
Oh man. I’m so sorry, guys. That was really awful. I can only imagine the stress that caused. I’m glad you figured out a way to get it to function. Strong work!
Great idea with that cistern for your water. Greg is so strong lifting that water pump in and out of the truck. You two have so much patience with problems you encounter. Really enjoy all your posts!
😢so sorry, bless your hearts, that’s a shame, praying for you, get something to eat and some rest and get warm, tomorrow is a better day, God bless you both
Oh guys my heart was aching for you going through that. Kiddos for sticking with it and overcoming the situation. I’m so impressed with how strong and determined you both are! I look forward to every video. We’re all rooting for you!😘
I just found you!! Don’t give in or up! Sometimes just walk away. When all else fails use the snow, yes it’s a pain but when your clean life looks better! When you get down think of our settlers- now they dealt with some crap!! Love you channel - you’ve got this!
Hope you had an adequate rest and up for todays challenge. I just know your dream will come thru. Always look forward to hear more of your story. I pray no more leaking cistern.
That's one of the things I love about your Channel is you two are completely honest your hard-working you're a great couple you have arguments you don't show them on screen but yet you tell us about them so we know that you are genuinely honest normal people. Well not normal LOL just kidding stay safe God bless from Missouri.
It’s OK to struggle and it’s even OK to cry some tears as long as you keep your eye on the big picture !!! One day sooner than later you’re going to look back at this time and you both are going to laugh and sigh and rejoice etc. etc. etc. !!! You both are big time winners and never doubt yourself !!! God bless 🙏🙏🙏❤️✌🏼😎
A good cry would be the best thing, sometimes it clears the mind instead of ranting on each other, words with anger doesn’t fix the problem, very often it becomes worse. I’m glad you’re dealing and working through the real problems though they be very hard and suffering. You two have been through your trials and tribulations, nothing can stop you but yourselves. Push on dears, you’ve got this, it’s only a test with a fix that you as creator’s will overcome and accomplish. Best for the fix be yours! Be warm, nourished, clean and very grateful. Keep on keeping on ❤
Hey, i am sorry this did not go as planned. It must have been terribly frustrating. Thank you for still showing some of it on the video. And for taking us on your long journey with all the ups and downs.
By far for me this was the best video I've ever watched you both do! Your perseverance your never quit attitude you guys keep kicking ass! It's very inspiring. You are both the true definition of two people who love and care for each other very much and it shows all that other BS is just a part of life that we all go through. Stay safe take care of yourself and I look forward to the next video. Tony
I'm glad you guys show the good and the uncomfortable time's, I hope we will be brave enough to do that on our channel! It seems like one bad leads to like 10 more! Just keep your head up and push on even when you just wanna lite a fire and walk away. Nothing can stop you guys but you! Good vibes from us to you!

Hey guys you are living it. Don’t let those bumps in the road get you down. Life is not always rosy but go getters like yourselves always find a way. Your persistence and hard work will pay off in the end. I love watching you two. You work so well together. Remember, all this will make you better and stronger. You guys were meant for this. @@ThisOffGridLife What Debbie said you know what to do. So now when you have. The chance you will get it done. And knowing is half the battle. Now, you have the experience and know what to look out for. This wasn’t for nothing.
Wow your tenacity blows me away. Katie you’re a rare gem. In these days of half naked pampered princesses you girl are outstanding. Greg you’ve found the real deal in your girl. I so enjoy these Saturdays with you. I’m a lady from the 50’s and I know we had no running water or indoor plumbing and my mom doesn’t see your lifestyle as an adventure but I’m right behind you all the way. Thanks for all your hard work we’re all so enjoying your hard work.
I live off grid as well...and winter came to quick for me as well. I know your struggles, keep your chin up as I know you will. It doesn't get easier , but the satisfaction the you did it Is a sign of your perseverance. So much love for your channel....hope you get that water figured out.
Hey Y'all, What an amazing amount of energy spent today. I am glad you were able to save the water in the 3 containers. You did get the line buried at least. I am so glad you have the utility sink for now if you build a rough table next to it to be a vanity substitute you will have a place to keep you personal items. I feel for y'all the difficulties and the hardships are a means to an end and will end as you complete each step and you will reap the reward in the end. Your dream is still there and I believe you will get there. So keep swearing keep fighting keep loving keep working keep filming keep living and it will all come out right.
I feel for you both, and am happy for your success over a very difficult home job. I grew up in the fifties so know some of what you are facing...Mom in the winter would bath me lukewarm water, same formula, one boiling hot pot and one cold pot. My first official job as a teen (excluding hauling hay) was working for the city utilities and fixing water leaks, you do the best you can and learn from mistake. Plumbing is a mysterious science and never easy. I enjoy the show and can imagine the words used and omitted, smile, this challenge is a big victory!
Don’t give up y’all!! Plumb the IBCS together and plumb them into the house plumbing. Run off them until you can get cistern fixed. Just tryin to help with ideas. :). Wish you the best you two! I’m doing the same you guys are doing. Learning as I go.
You too are both so strong. Everyone has fights when shit gets real and super frustrating. I’ve been with my husband for 27 years and we can argue like crazy. At the end of the day you accomplished what you wanted. It’s always refreshing to see “real life” when watching these kinds of videos. Keep up the good work. ❤
You two work so hard to have what a lot of us take for granted, I'm glad you managed to sort it out you both deserve better luck, fingers crossed it comes your way from now on. You said you fought but that's wot makes you stronger as a couple neither of you could do this without the other so stay strong.
If I may suggest, if you make the patch for your storage tank from the inside it would be forced against the crack ensuring that it won't leak. When patched from the outside the pressure would force the patch off by the water pressure. Make your patches on the inside 💠!
I understand your situation! That poly cistern is the weak link in your water system and care must be taken when burying it and the plumbing. The plumbing must be fully supported to avoid undue stresses at the tank connections when buried. In the day's before plastics, concrete or wooden cisterns were built onsite and lasted many years. Good luck with your adventure! Looking back from a future date when all this hard work and stress are long gone, you will appreciate the fruit's of your labor's with what you have built and remember it fondly!
Always thought maybe a shallow well made with concrete tiles down to about 12 feet with a lid. Water dowsing to find the right spot close to the building with buried water line to shallow pump inside a warm building. Well located at least 60 feet away from the waste field. Hang in there.
good video people that are thinking about going off grid need to see what you have to deal with. some days nothing good happens. you both have really worked hard to get this far. i hate snow too. take care, be safe and well.

I am realizing now that we didn't show patching the tank from the inside as well, but we did patch it on both sides
Inside is not easy for sure. Now you're good but next time you could maybe drill a hole, thread it, and use a cap or bulkhead
I love this episode because mama your serious about this problem getting resolved today!!!!! Lol love the real regency of the moment I was very young once and it was very fun and exciting for the problems of the day to go away by good problemsolving people

Hi, any concerns that your repair to the tank might diminish the potability of the water?
You two are an example of love and companionship. I really enjoy watching your progress. Keep the faith!
When the struggle is real things are said. You're human. It's knowing when to stop and recoup that matters. Absolutely love your channel. Peace.

Yup. It's practically impossible to weld polyethylene without the specialized equipment ($$$) to do so. That's probably why you got a deal on that tank.

Keep smiling. Theres always good & bad, but you guys are doing good. Good Luck.
So sorry for your troubles!
