    The fact that you got in and just fucking SENT IT!!! You’re a real driver. Incredible video and even more incredible driving with no experience in the vehicle before

      thanks man means a lot!! I think I got within a few tenths of the owner with tc and stability control on if I remember correctly!

    Your initial reaction reminded me of the step up from my E36 M3 race car to my GT3 Cup race car. It too was a dramatic change. In time you would become desensitized to the added power if you continued to drive the McLaren.

    16:41 "there's too much powerrrrr" haha. what an awesome experience! must have been one of the most awesome days. scary taking it off track but glad nothing really happened!
    the mclaren does take those bumps like a champ. what do you think you could to the brz to help with the bumps? increase travel? tweak damping?

    • @dadhats
      @dadhats  4 місяці тому +2

      I think the mclaren has some fancy hydraulics instead of sway bars that give it that cushy planted feel over bumps.
      for the brz I have the damping cranked quite high since the sway bars aren't stiff enough from factory so my plan is to swap the sway bars out and lower the damping a bit!

    I remember you saying something in a previous vid about it being a mistake to go too wide into that loooong sweeping right onto that straight. But I do wonder if a wider entry would make sense in the McLaren with the setup on it. You have a lot more speed to shed on approach to the corner, and a lot more power to rebuild speed. So maybe you can trail brake a wide entry to get the car rotated more earlier, and straighten out the corner some to mitigate the push?

    • @dadhats
      @dadhats  5 місяців тому

      I tried it I think! trail braking isn't particularly effective in that corner since it's so long. on throttle rotation is much more important there and the McLaren has literally none of that lol

    Been enjoying your videos, looking forward to doing a few TNIA events myself. Nice driving and commentary, don't be discouraged about the off-track, it's a lot of car and just a small lesson in brake fade and overheated tires

    160 on the straight, holy hell. That thing is absolutely punishing those Michelins lol.

      @dadhats  5 місяців тому

      @@JunkRacecars my top speed in the brz is like 120 so no not even remotely close 😂 it was actually really easy to drive tho! I essentially was braking at the finish line to make that turn LOL

  • @Turbo329

    Regarding your commentary around 6 minutes,..... It's not so much the tires. Mid engine cars generally lack front end feel and that is what you experienced. A grippier tire will give you more confidence trust the car on corner entry, but you will still lack feel. Also, McLaren is notorious for going light on the front tire width. They set it up for understeer to keep their clients safe. Towards the end, you started to cook the Michelins which naturally leads to even more understeer, plus the brakes got hot, and that is why you went off. Fun cars those MP4-12c.

    • @dadhats
      @dadhats  5 місяців тому

      idk I have driven a 986 boxster and it had a ton of steering feel near the limit. granted that wasn't on track but still.
      yea dude I think it's a 235 up front which is wild!! and agreed that def contributed to the off! was still my fault, at the end of the day I was the one driving. I didn't want to make excuses for myself like that lol

    Did you check the tire pressure at start of session?

    • @dadhats
      @dadhats  5 місяців тому

      I didn't mess with it since it's not my car. didn't think to ask tbh

    • @Slowcarfastbeans
      @Slowcarfastbeans 5 місяців тому

      @@dadhats Sounds like it was too high to start. As you continue to add more heat into the tire, the grip starts to go away the longer you go in a session. With high speed cars, the brakes put a lot of heat into the tire. Could you feel the front tire grip start to fade away after a certain number of laps?

    • @dadhats
      @dadhats  5 місяців тому

      @@Slowcarfastbeans definitely. if I remember correctly the owner said he keeps the pressures high to keep the tires from rolling over or something like that. it's hard to tell, the first few laps I wasn't anywhere close to the limit of grip, towards the end where I was hitting 1:12s the fronts were def struggling looking back at it, I whiffed 2 braking zones in a row at the end there lol
