C'mon people...the whole story is supposed to be based on Motown. Deana (Beyonce's character) is Diana Ross. Jimmy Early (Eddie Murphy's character) is a mixture of a few but a lot of people say Marvin Gaye. Curits (Jamie Foxx character) is supposed to be Barry Gordy. CiCi (Keith Robinson) is supposed to be Smokie Robinson. So yes, this quick cameo is supposed to be the Jackson 5 to solidify the Motown parallel.
Yup. In the original Broadway play, they have the "Five Tuxedos" performing in this spot in the story - sort of a mash-up of the Four Tops and the Temptations. Changing it to a J5 proxy is a better reference point - and more fun - for a modern audience.
@@kpinfulleffect Jimmy Early is a mash-up primarily of James Brown and Jackie Wilson, who was the artist Berry Gordy broke into the music biz writing songs for before he launched Motown. The movie adaptation kind of introduces more of the Marvin Gaye parallels - the drug use, the attempt to go into message music, etc
I always wondered why this kid did the robot towards the ending. I had no idea Michael Jackson (as a teenager) was the one who made the robot so popular, just like with the moonwalk.
I give these actors, especially Jordan Wright (Teddy Campbell) major kudos playing this Jackon 5-inspired group. One of my favorite scenes from the film 😍
I knew this was a Jackson 5 copy group the abc tune and the Jackson 5 lyrics and dance moves were so obvious to me at the age of 5 🤣 I was a die hard J5 fan and I still am
It was written for the film version of Dreamgirls. It's available on the deluxe edition of the Dreamgirls soundtrack, but it's not an "actual" song from 1974.
I hate how this movie think that we don't know that this movie is based on the Supremes... Im still waiting on them tell to tell us wat this based on...
You cant count, look at the picture and stop that if you are not able to count while watching the video. For example stop that at 0:44 and see wonder (that they are five).
No it’s Malcom Johnson. He’s a character in the Dreamgirls spinoff film called “King” about a young boy who grows up in a successful band with his brothers constantly facing abuse and harassment by his controlling “Mother” but then forges his own path as a solo singer soon to become a cultural icon in the 1980’s so you know totally different than the Jackson 5 story
I was thinking about this part in my head the other day. Didn't expect to find it here. And the song is totally an ABC spoof. I want they are supposed to be based on the Jackson 5 but just saying.
“Come on girl! I love ya!” They didn’t even try hiding it hahaha

I've known that ever since i was a teenager. Did it bother me? No
You on point exactly, not to mention the real Michael Jackson seen the real Broadway play back in 83 and he loved it !!!!!
Jimmy Thunder Early gave me more of James Brown vibe than a Smokey Robinson.

I always wondered why this kid did the robot towards the ending. I had no idea Michael Jackson (as a teenager) was the one who made the robot so popular, just like with the moonwalk.

That Henry Krieger. He really knew how to channel the Motown sound!
Jackson 5 parody
They should called themselves the Campbell 5.
The young kid sounds just like the real Michael Jackson as a kid. They did a good job of as playing them.
whoever wrote this song got the music style down so insanely well
Mash up of ABC and I Want You Back???
The Jackson 5 baby!!!!!!
does anyone know if there is a long version of this song?
Yitkah Norton it is on the Dreamgirls deluxe edition CD.
This is the whole song as recorded and as filmed. The movie only uses a small piece of this, the director's cut a bit more.
the little boy is so cute
THE JACKSON 5! ❤️❤️❤️

This song is lit, I would jam this in my BMW frfr.
I knew this was a Jackson 5 copy group the abc tune and the Jackson 5 lyrics and dance moves were so obvious to me at the age of 5 🤣 I was a die hard J5 fan and I still am

This was a very cool part of the movie....Jackson 5ish....Love it...Did they ever make this a whole song?...Where can you find it?
Happy Birthday Michael
So is this not a real song? Cuz I really wanna find it but apparently it's not an actual song

It's basically the parody/spoof of ABC by The Jackson 5.
Yup the Jackson 5 lol.!:)
This is the Jackson 5 I’m watching it on HBO Max right now it’s Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 you definitely can’t not hide it
This scene just confirmed what this movie was inspired on 😂

The singer here almost sounds like Michael!!
I hate how this movie think that we don't know that this movie is based on the Supremes... Im still waiting on them tell to tell us wat this based on...
They said the supremes awhile ago. Motown has a stake in the movie.
we know who they were
ABC, Misdemeanor, Candy Girl and then this song lol
I always love to thinknhe grownup to be Teddy Perkins from Atlanta
Dollar tree version of Jackson 5
You cant count, look at the picture and stop that if you are not able to count while watching the video. For example stop that at 0:44 and see wonder (that they are five).
Personally, it's kinda weird hearing grown women freaking out over a little boy.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is this a real Jackson’s 5 song ? Anybody know ?
No
i wish
Is this michael jackson?

How did black music go from being wholesome Motown here to unsavory rap and hiphop only talking about money and sex nowadays?
I’ll never know
Micheal Jackson is king
This is the bootleg abc
A J5 scene so way off
