- Johnny gives his review of Super Mario Bros. Wonder a platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the first traditional side-scrolling Super Mario game since New Super Mario Bros. U (2012) and was released worldwide on October 20, 2023.
Johnny also talks about the new up and coming STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R a remake of Star Ocean: The Second Story, it is an action role-playing video game developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix for the PlayStation. It is the second game in the Star Ocean series and the first game in the series to be released outside Japan, arriving in North America in May 1999 and Europe in April 2000,

My little girl and I just started Mario this morning and boy, what a fantastic game it is. It’s her first Mario game. Priceless memories.
So nice, thats why i think they made it a little easier game, Mario got a lot new young fans with the movie so they made the game a little easier to get the new kids into the gameworld. Nintendo went the right way.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Martinet last month. He signed my copy of Odyssey and chatted a bit. To call him a Nintendo ambassador is an understatement.
Due to financial difficulties it's been quite a while since I bought any new games, but thanks to some recent sales and some rare luck, I was able to acquire a couple of games I've wanted for some time: Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. I'm diggin' them both a lot!

Star Ocean 2 has one of the great RPG soundtracks. I remember being in awe by it when I played it back in the day it was so beautiful. No Star Ocean game's soundtrack since that one compares IMO. 2 was my favorite in the series.
Second Story is one of my favorite PS1 RPGs so I'm definitely planning on playing the remaster.
Is it in switch or just ps5?

I finished Starfield, Baldur’s Gate III, then Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. Played some of Sonic Superstars, now starting Spider-Man 2. I also got Super Mario Bros Wonder but haven’t started it yet

Amazing story about meeting Charles and having such a wholesome experience. I grew up with him voicing one of my favorite video game characters, and I will always have those memories, of me playing all the Super Mario Games. I have been playing Super Mario Wonders, and I am playing it in small bits, because I don't want it to end. Love the animation, music, and new power ups! Awesome video!
Hey Johnny, you might want to know that the physical copy of Baldur's Gate III that Play Asia is selling requires a download and doesn't have the full game on the disc. The devs have said that in order to release the full game physically it would require two discs, so make sure you let them know that's something we want.
Super Mario Wonder seems to feel like it’s a really nice nod to the original games, while refreshing it and almost bringing in the a new generation of gamers who are just going to be meeting Mario for the first time in game. It feels really good and refreshing to see personally.
Nintendo innovates in ways that are so much smarter than other companies. Nintendo knows that keeping the core of Mario alive is necessary. Mario runs.. he jumps.. he overcomes obstacles. Everything else is negotiable and able to be changed or thrown out.
Halo needs this kind of rethink, badly.
Still playing through Persona 4 Golden. I beat the base game part of it. Still have the "Golden" stuff to do. Amazing game. 10/10
I will also be preordering Star Ocean Second Story R this week. Really into RPGs right now and I have several years' worth of RPGs in my backlog
I was just playing P4g on Switch for the first time last night.. Sucks I lost my new game plus being my Vita won’t turn on for some reason.. Already got Star Ocean preordered
Gosh, I had just beat the final boss when my Vita got corrupted and I lost everything. Still bitter about it lol.
It’s always nice to see what other people are playing. Helps me decide what to play next sometimes. I’m currently playing through Tales of Xillia and Pikmin 3 on the side. Both have been great so far
I loved Tales of Xillia,the second Tales of Xillia ,not so much.....lol. I Never played past Pikmin 1,I couldn't get into it. I wanted to like it and get into the series,but I just couldn't.
I wish they would release the Xillia games on modern systems. I want to play them so much, but my PS3 is dying, so I don't want to buy new games for it, plus the discs are pretty rare, so very expensive :/
@@UpsetN3RD Xillia has been awesome. Easily my favorite ps3 game. Pikmin definitely isn't for everyone. 3 is my first one, and its been a nice pickup game to play on the side

@@Whitlan I'm not getting my hopes up. There's all kinds of rumors about the code for the older Tales games being lost and such. Ofcourse we don't know if that's true, but so far they keep rereleasing Symphonia so either they think other older games aren't profitable, or something else is preventing them from rereleasing them. I'd love to play a remake or remaster of Abyss as well.
Star Ocean the Second Story was my favorite, I played the heck out of it on ps1 so I'm super excited about the remake, the demo has been amazing so far❤
I played so much Star Ocean TSS back on PS1, there's an optional hardcore dungeon at the end but a memory leak made it nearly impossible to finish until the PS2 came out because it had more memory! Great game from start to finish.
That Star Ocean remake looks incredible. Kinda reminds me of the “2D HD” stuff like Ocotpath. I love this recent visual trend with JRPG’s. Perfect mix of old and new visual styles.

Currently playing SMRPG (snes) for the first time in 20+ years, playing around with some Hot Shots golf on PSP, and still doing the never ending exploration grind in BOTW
I remember really liking Hot Shots Golf back on the PS1 and then got the PSP versions but haven't played any of them in a while. A good, cartoony golf game is a must for a portable system, at least in my book. I've been meaning to revisit the Hot Shots games.
@@ravagingwolverine yeah it’s perfect for psp because 5-15 minutes competes a match play event or tournament round, and you can easily just pause or put it down at anytime without losing story/momentum.
Have to say, after all these huge epics coming out back-to-back, I needed a palette cleanser. Went back and ran through Bloodborne and Sekiro again. Such masterpieces. Excited to get into Mario after hearing your thoughts!

Star Ocean 2 is considered the best game in the series by many, personally i love it but unfortunately i can't say the same about any of the other entries, most of them i stopped playing halfway through, something i rarely do, for me the storyline fails to keep me interested. I'm getting this remake for sure though.

Mario Wonder is AWESOME! Couldn’t put it down for about 4 hours straight last night. I played Star Ocean The Second Story R demo a few weeks back up to the 3 hour demo limit and I am so so excited to play through the entire game. I haven’t been this pumped for an RPG in a long time. Played the original on PS1 way back in the day and barely remember it.
Getting to hang out with Charles is so cool.
As someone who has loved Star Ocean 2 since it came out on the PSX this remake is just perfect. The 3 hour demo synced up perfectly even (the end point was where mine stopped but at 2:55). I was depressed when it was over because I've been wanting a game like it again for so long. You can tell this team really had love and admiration for the original game while implementing more modern quality of life and sprucing up the combat. And while I loved the system in the original - I'm glad the crazy stat gain skills are gone. You'd end up hoarding your SP for certain skills that gave tons of stats and changing the arts system from level up from using to spending BP on it? Love it. Can't wait enough for the 2nd of November.

I played the first couple of levels of super mario bros wonder they are indeed easy but they most of the time get harder and harder. You can see the difficulty levels by the stars on the sheet.

I'm currently playing Tactics Ogre Reborn (which I borrowed from a friend, who wants it back before Christmas) and Baldurs Gate 3. I've got the Star Ocean 2 remake pre-ordered for next week, and those 3 games are probably going to keep me occupied all the way to December. Then I have January to play Crisis Core Reunion before the FF7 remake part 2 comes out, and Yakuza Like a Dragon before Infinite Wealth comes out, and I'm kinda behind on Trails too, so I need to play Trails from Zero, and I haven't played Spiderman and Miles Morales yet either.
I need a longer January.

I feel you on the Star Ocean series. I loved the second story on ps1. But tried numerous times to enjoy the later games, but never quite clicked for me.

The star ocean demo is amazing. That game is about to take over my life when it comes out. The original was already one of my favorite games all time. This though is gonna be so much better I can’t wait week and a half can’t come fast enough

I can't wait to pick up Mario Wonder eventually! Still trucking away at my backlog, finally finished my 100% run of TOTK a few weeks back and immediately jumped into playing Okami for the first time, and have been having a blast! Hope you have a great week ahead of you and great gaming!
I completed Tears of the Kingdom last month, so I have been on an indie spooky game trip ever since. Completed Oxenfree 2 and Fort Solis in the last week. Right now it’s Mario Wonder and the Halloween events in Dead by Daylight and Splatoon 3.
I felt that way when I saw First Departure announced for the first time way back in the day. That was my entry into Star Ocean. Obviously Second Evolution would go on to be my favorite SO game, and one of my favorites on the PSP period.
Mario is such an easy game to get into. It's the first one I saw and played. I'll never forget the face I made, the expression I had when I saw this thing called "videogame" (Mario on the NES back in the 90s). It impacted me so deeply!
This is going to be my first time playing Star Ocean The Second Story R and I’m ecstatic! My son and I are still playing Odyssey but really excited to play Wonder with him. Kind of somber bittersweet news about the new voice actor. Charles seems like a genuine and wonderful man.

I've been playing through the 360 Gears of War trilogy plus Judgment. I'm gonna start Gears 3 today and have also been replaying Paper Mario 64 on my brother's Switch when he's not home.

Played star ocean 2 on the PS1 back in the day so pretty pumped for the remake, also just beat the first game 2 weeks ago so i'm ready.
Lately been playing Lords of the Fallen, pretty good game that grows on you.
I know it's not the typical genre for the channel, and maybe it wouldn't be enough to fill a whole episode, but based on your reactions and what you shared about Super Mario Wonder, Johnny, I'd actually love to hear a final thoughts video on it once that time comes, especially once you and Kim try the multiplayer. I just finished beating Tears of the Kingdom. Wow!! What an awesome game. I'm going to back to finish all the side quest now.
I went back and played the original Star Ocean 2 after playing the demo and was kind of amazed at the difference in translation. The demo had me hooked but the original game barely made any coherent sense to me, I don't think the original would ever have been able to hook me. I'm very excited to get into the remake.
about Super Mario Wonder, it’s funny that, for the first time ever here in Brazil, Mario is now dubbed in portuguese. so is even stranger for us here to hear him talk a complete different language for the fist time. it’s gonna take a while to get used to

The thing that really bothers me about the Mario voice change is the fact that clearly it wasn't Charles choice, even he doesn't know what a Mario embassador is, and it kinda seems like a way for them to fire him without the bad pr. And cmon, he's not even that old!

Charles the voice actor of Mario was actually homeless a few years back in the 2000's believe it or not. He later moved to Europe where he currently resides now. Is kind of sad to see him been replaced.. Anyways regarding Baldur's Gate 3 is also available on Amazon Japan website. The game is in English.

I've been playing a lot of RE on PC with a ton of mods. Currently on RE1 Remake heavily modded to make it look beautiful and closer to the GC version, plus running a randomizer!
What mods do you recommend for a first time playthrough? Using the 4:3 mode right now and that's about it

I have a lot of nostalgia from high school days for Star Ocean Second Story. I remember it was an overcast Saturday and my friend was with me in Best Buy helping me decide between this and Silent Hill. I’m really glad I went with Star Ocean. Picked it up along with the strategy guide which I still have both. I had to work the same day I bought it, and I fired it up to check out the first 20 minutes before I had to go. It started raining that night when I got back and I played the crap out of that game. I did Rena’s scenario. Never did do another play through as Claude and never played any of fhe re-releases so maybe I will pick up this remake and do that.
I’m currently switching between playing Sonic Superstars and Majora’s Mask 3D as my Halloween game. I might dip into the Star Ocean demo as well. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the original but I’ve never played it.

Sonic Superstars has pleasantly surprised me, but obviously Mario Wonder and Spider Man 2 are the cream of the crop this month.
I played a ton of JRPGs on the PSOne back in the day (Grandia is my GOAT juuuuust above FF7) but somehow Star Ocean eluded me. Can’t wait for the remake!

The star ocean character illustrations are done by Street fighter's Akira Yasuda. (Akiman) he does have a nice painterly style

This week i just play Diablo 4 season 2. Talking Star Ocean, Star Ocean the Second Story is my fav in the series. I'm holding back playing the demo since i want to play it uninterrupted from having to wait for rilis date.
I beat Sea of Stars and the DLC for Fire Emblem Engage and I'm prepping for the final battle. I picked up Mario Wonder to play next. I loved the demo for Star Ocean 2. Wonder, Star Ocean 2, and Super Mario RPG is the best month of games this year for me.

I’ve been playing through my backlog. I played Castlevania SOTN on my 360, Chrono Trigger on my phone and now I’m working my way through Final Fantasy 6.
I am OBSESSED with super Mario wonder so far, only started playing it Sunday night and I am HOOKED. I did notice the difference in Mario’s voice and I do think it’s kind of a shame but also the charm of this game just actually overwhelmed me. Having elephant powers is my favourite thing ever! 🐘

It's October, so I recently finished Resisent Evil 8 for the first time. Really enjoyed it now I'm onto Claire's 2nd run in resident evil 2. Also started Mario wonder yesterday since my lady surprised me with it out of the blue :)
Sea of stars and Lies of P have been taking my time. So much fun

I got a PSVR1 for about 100 bucks and now I'm just exploring the titles which has been a blast, I just installed an Xstation, so I'm exploring some PS1 titles as well, but I'm not really playing anything right now. Waiting to see what I want to commit to
