Which reminds me of two seasons ago I accidentally mulched up three full nests (about 6 baby rabbits total) they all decided to make a run for it as soon as my mower was over the nest only way I knew I did it was the hair and blood discharging. I felt awful but I somehow still laughed out of shock.

    • @youtoober2013
      @youtoober2013 6 років тому

Squirrels? Really? When have you ever had to escort a squirrel out of harms way? A baby rabbit... maybe.
Most mammals will run from a mower, even most rodents.
Frogs try to hide, like snakes, they stay perfectly still, then try to jump away last second into the blade.
I want someone to invent a device you can put on your lawn as a deterrent to all living things in the grass.
You would set it 15 mins ahead of time, have it on a schedule or make it remote activated.
Then when you arrive to start cutting all the animals have already dispersed.
Would be perfect for the entire agriculture business really.
It's actually the only thing I hate about my job, taking the life of innocent animals.
It's the only aversion I have in all of landscaping.
If I couldn't foresee taking the time to move animals out the way, I take the time to bury them responsibly.
I've even personally nursed some back to full health!
Being in our position you're really forced to weigh efficiency against simple decency.
In my opinion and personal reflection, I've found that it's more worth it to spend the time.

This looks like one of the jobs I've mowed that measured an average of about 27 degree slope, plus large rocks, washouts, unseen fall-offs and unpredictable holes buried among thick brush and nasty sticker-bushes that were 4-7 feet high. It was my most challenging job, even with the Ventrac. Had to mow it 5 times over to produce acceptable results, so I suggested to the customer that it should be mowed more often. After seeing the results, the customer asked if I thought he could just mow it himself with a standard riding mower.

What would really work after clearing the stumps and logs is a 32 inch disk. Ripping the land up will destroy roots not all of course but a huge part and then the owner can plant grass

Be careful when changing blades on that deck. The blade on the right side is counter rotating. After my new brushless impact gun broke the left handed bolt it became obious reverse would have moved things forward. The only good news is the bolt spun right out with a 1/8" drill bit.

Just use a metal blade. Much safer and you can really swing it.

Why didn't you just use the Ventrac KP540 Power Rake after you cleaned it up with the Tuff Cut mower? Tip on the Tuff Cut in areas you aren't familiar. Mow high on the 1st pass. Walk the area and mark stumps like with a bright orange construction paint or even temporary flags. Use a Ventrac KC180 Stump Grinder on the stumps you find. Mow standard cut on the 2nd pass. Scalp on the final pass in areas like this where you're clearing for planting other vegetation. Then use the power rake and/or landscape rake to move the debris, if needed. Finally, use the AERA-vator to seed with whatever you're seeding. You've got the main tool, the Ventrac 4500. Use it to its potential. No uniloader/skid steer was needed for this job. But then again, that's just MY opinion.

That is a great machine! I would have just left the brush on that hill. By cutting it all down you have just removed what is holding that hill in place. If we get more heavy rains, the washouts will get even bigger. Sometimes it is best to let nature to have it.

Well those seem like cool machines, why not use a smaller tracked skidloader with a bush hog? That way those trees are near the issue.

Investment for your idea = $100k+. Ventrac = $25k and many uses. They are a great machine!
