Hey I’m Josh from Adelaide, South Australia. I'm a proud father of 3 and passionate about heavy music.
I was the bass player for post-hardcore/alternative rock group Capulet from 2004-2012, releasing an album, EP and several demos.
Capulet were signed to Red Bull and the Taperjean Music Group alongside Closure in Moscow and The Mission in Motion.
Highlights of my music career were playing with amazing bands like Anberlin, Emery, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Haste the Day, Awaken I Am, and touring Australia several times.
I wasn’t the most technical bass player, but lived for performing on stage. I have always loved the process of song writing and the visual art that accompanies music.

"How can a voice sound so strong and so fragile at the same time?" Right? Vessel is so good at belting out these strong vocals but they have this vulnerability to them somehow too like... unbelievable.
I think this element is what's missing for me in other strong vocalists, where it is obvious they're an amazing vocalist but there's no FEELING in their singing, y'know? Which I know a lot of these bands inject that feeling in their live performances, but I wish more bands did that for their studio albums like ST and a couple other bands I'm forever obsessed with.
Think this is sort of why I like hardcore a lot more than like deathcore. Deathcore vocals often just feel like a technique, and not something that passionate. Hardcore on the other hand has a bunch of vocalists where they may not have the best techniques but you definitely feel their passion coming through
@@Joseph-R Yes! Exactly! Like, I try to listen to deathcore bc I DO like heavier tracks, and I recognize the skill that goes into it, but it just feels like a technique, when I personally want music to make me FEEL things. like deathcore sometimes just goes in one ear out the other bc it utimately wasn't created to make me FEEL anything except the beat and the overall aggression. I can def appreciate deathcore for the skill it takes to perform it, but hardcore/metalcore is what I'll gravitate to forever to just FEEL something.

Something people aren't mentioning a lot is that this song is produced *so* well. It's a big part of why it sounds pretty cohesive despite all the genre shifts.
I listen to a lot of prog metal. One of my favorite albums is Inmazes by VOLA, which has a similar vibe to this, but it's kind of like putting your ears through a cheese grater sometimes.

I just discovered Sleep Token this weekend, and this was the first song I heard from them. Quite literally one of the biggest and most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. Discovering that song lead me down a rabbit hole of reaction videos, bringing me to this channel and I have to say, you described everything so well and captured my exact thoughts about it. Definitely going to hit the subscribe button man! Great work!
The new album is called 'Take Me Back To Eden' - I won't spoil anything more but this little taste is just the start of the hype train into release.
In terms of what is coming next (maybe tomorrow if we all worship a bit harder today? Regular release intervals is what they did with Sundowning launch), i'll just say that we definitely won't be taking Sleep Token for 'Granite' any more after the next track drops.

These two new songs are easily their best. I liked sleep token before this, have done since 2020... but after these two newbies, they've gone waaaaaaay up my list of bands that I'm stoked about.
I'm the exact same. Since these two dropped I can't believe how much I've been jamming them and even more of the older stuff just because I can't get enough of them atm and I've listened to their entire albums prior and they didn't hit like this.
First got into them a few weeks ago when I discovered this song. After listening to their other stuff, I gotta say that this is definitely their best song IMO in terms of the song composition, overall technique, and mixing/mastering. Just a clearly different level.

Saw them live just a week ago. It was crazy good. Vessel sounds live even better then on this Tracks. You should catch them live too If you have the chance! Its very unique :)

The ending of the song reminds me of another song I've heard somewhere and I can't quite figure out wtf it's reminding me of! But it's hotttt af.
When I first heard it it reminded me of Pony by Genuine. Then I heard the FAR version and it made me think that was the inspiration. I could be 100 % wrong though lol
@@MiguelRamirez-cr7gh Amazing lol. I think the vocals sort of reminded me of Kaleo's Way Down We Go after about 2:20 ish in the song. Kind of a similar raw bluesy quality to the vocals, but Sleep Token is more on the funk side at the end of this tune
@@kmcelligott4 Ohhh I forgot about Kaleo and that song. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t like his voice, it sounds too similar to those folk indie pop type of bands. Hozier, Imagine Dragons, etc. i personally like what it adds to the metal scene. But I love all type of music so 🤷🏽♂️ lol

@@kmcelligott4 Pasty Cline hell yes. I’m actually a huge country music fan. Old country music just hits me in the feels. But I grew up on hip hop and oldies, started listening to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones when I got older, then just branched out from there lol

If sleep token goes out of their way to hide their identity, I’m sure and hoping they’d never want any deals from record companies that would want to change them to main stream. I just don’t see them being interested. Seem like a band that will forever stick to their roots

Where’d you get that info? I’m not convinced, it sounds a lot like his style…and if you’ve gone down the rabbit hole and know who the drummer is, it definitely still sounds like his normal material

I misinterpreted a conversation at the time with a mate where he outlined that the drums where programmed, and ii wasn’t listed in the credits.
So since only vessel was listed i would assume it was himself.
