Thanks for the video. I just put a set of DHR EVOs on my Rascal V2 and love them (previous Code RSC Rider for 12 years); different feel had to move levers inward, make some other changes but now that I'm used to them I'd never go back.
How do you feel about this compared to the Evil Insurgent Mullet? Which climbs better and which gets down on the trail hoping, popping, and jibbing? Does the Transition have a slight edge to the Evil as far as racing and speed or the other way around?
I want to say that's a hard one but, the Insurgent wins out for me. The traction of the Evil stays more active under braking and its super playful when you want to pull up. The 63.5° is plenty slack to me but you can get the angle set to set things up as slack as 63°. The Patrol may edge it out for climbing just based on the steeper seat tube angle but the ultra low bottom bracket means your bashing pedals on tech climbs.
@@NICADV I hear ya. I currently have a Large Evil Calling, so sad they don’t make them anymore. Sized up to a Large to get the 460mm reach but the TT length is too long for me when seated (back when seat tube angles weren’t so steep). For years I’ve tried things to mitigate that issue but it always inevitably results in needing to shorten the reach (shorter stem etc) which sucks. Looking into something modern to replace it but I love the playful manor of the thing too much. Only thing I will say is the BB is so damn low. I’ve never wiped out so many times from pedal strikes as on this bike haha (might have a little to do with the fact I increased the stroke length of the rear shock lol). A mullet wheel modern Evil Calling I think would be the sickest addition to their lineup. Maybe bump the travel up to 140 or 150 rear, mixed wheels with short chain stay, low BB but not too low. 170 is just simply a little too much for me. I’ve got elevation where I’m at but from what I’ve found over the years; I enjoy pushing a shorter travel bike to its limit more than a big bruiser taking me for a ride you know.
@@philrob4468 yes, but both bikes would be a good addition. The patrol wasn’t bad, the spire was just better. It will depend on what you want the bigger bike for.
@@NICADV u actually rode it the other day … lots of mount benson laps and some Cumberland … live in Nanaimo… the smuggler can feel like it’s not enough bike on benson sometimes
@@philrob4468 that makes sense, I do like the Spire for techy climbs and if it’s more about what holds its line the best then I’d probably go Spire. The Patrol is a bit more maneuverable but the low bb can be an issue, I’m thinking that first move on hitman you could definitely bash a chainring.
Love my patrol. Now I I do race and it’s more bike than I have skill for. But I do run the front 170. And the rear 170. I added a cascade link to smooth out the rear and it definitely works. But it also makes the rear 180 ha
@@NICADV I found this bike a bit chattery in the rear and the Cascade link seams to help quite a bit. It ramps up progression on bottom but smooths out the top. Back county riding is rough so it helps
Do you think it is besides park also good for enduro racing ? I mean, not on a high level of course. I just want more confidence and speed (on average) than on my Trek Remedy 8, but still a fun agile bike. Thank you in advance
I think it would be great for enduro racing without sacrificing fun. It definitely has more stability than the Remedy and I think jumps as well as that bike.
@@NICADV bro, that was fast. Thx for the answer! Not sure about the size yet since I'm 179-180cm, think that's 5'10. @@bennysciulzze3174 Nice, I still ride BMX weekly, usually the skatepark. I know what you mean. I think that is why I generally like a 470-475 reach and am drawn to the MX. The Patrol generally has a good mix of stability and playfulness. Good luck finding a dealer in your area!
I do think there are different use cases for both bikes and I honestly was a bit resistant to the mullet idea. However, if I had it to do over I would buy the Patrol.
@@NICADVfor 80% bike park 20% trails do you think the patrol is a good fit? Looking for a confidence booster to hit bigger features. Compared to Slash ?
@@sebby90 if you’re looking for a mullet then I would say go for it. The slack headtube and high front end help with the confidence. I’d probably bump the fork up to 170 and if you’re really doing 80% bike park increasing the shock stroke may be a good idea as well.

What trail is this? Looks wicked fun.
It certainly is, most of the video is from a trail called "snake".

What trail was that with the rock rolls?
I don’t know what the trail is called. It’s in the clearcut on lookout

Im building up a 170mm Patrol with a 27.5 Fox 40 fork set at 180mm travel for my park bike. I opted for the alloy frame though.
Nice! I was always confused why the Spire was the 170 bike and the Patrol was 160 when it is just the shock stroke that determines travel🤷♂️
@NICADV I like 27.5" wheels much better. With the longer travel fork and the smaller front wheel, the geometry numbers are virtually the same.
