I appreciate the honest review. I wasn't going to buy a new bike this season but Transition has some good markdowns going on right now and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Patrol.
yes blake i WANT TO HEAR all your thoughts on how well that ARMA shock performs especially compared to X2. Also, the difference in weight between them . Good vid 👌
great 1 year review video. good on you for having the courage to stand up and speak up to poor business practices. our power is in our voices. Thank you!
I've got the same bike and I too blew up my X2 pretty quickly. I just checked my shock alignment in the linkage and it was far enough off to where transition is replacing the front triangle under warranty. You should check yours out, hopefully the better alignment will extend the life of the X2.
I always love a good bike check, so I say yes to Chase's Spire! Also, just for easy fun content during your busy times you guys should do everyday rider bike checks at horns and other parks you visit. I can't ever get enough of those! Great vid!
I'm planning on ordering an alloy Patrol soon. I love that blueberry colour but the comments about paint chipping are leaning me towards the raw frame, which also looks incredible.
Glad to hear you're liking the bike. I seriously considered a Spire at one point. After dealing with some durability issues with my last carbon frame I switch to a Kavenz VHP16. 7000 series aluminum, incredibly light (about 2lbs lighter than an aluminum spire), and fast. The thing goes like a raped ape. I see no reason to buy carbon unless you want an XC race bike.
@@Blake_Cherubini 7000 series aluminum is stronger and more durable than 6000 series aluminum. This allows manufacturers to use thinner tubes for the same strength thus saving weight over a 6000 series aluminum frame. The downside to 7000 series aluminum is it's more difficult to work with which means the frames are usually a little more expensive. A few companies I know using 7000 series aluminum are Banshee, Kavenz, REEB, and Nicolai. There are probably more.
You running cushcore in the rear after your last blowout in the Colorado video? Definitely would like a review on the arma and the spire. Maybe a comparison vid of the patrol vs spire if you guys are the same size frame. I’m on a carbon sentinel and it weighs about the same as the new carbon patrol. I beat the snot out of it racing enduro, jumps, big drops, etc. At 250lbs I’m hard on stuff, no frame breakage issues yet!
I am not running cushcore. I just don’t feel like it really helps much. I’ve blown out wheels with and without it. Seems like it’s more for sidewall strength rather than rim protection!
@@Blake_Cherubini cool good to know. I’ve been thinking about trying out a DH casing rear instead of the usual trail casing + cushcore, maybe I’ll give it a go
I just got a patrol and have been on a Enduro for almost 3 years. Idk if I like it yet but will see. It's definitely not as stable at speed but more fun on jumps and corners. The headset is bullshit and the bolts for the suspension and cheaply made.
How do you mean the headset is bullishit? I have this bike as well and have noticed that the headset has come loose multiple times is that what your talking about?
Love these videos. Thank you. I have the same bike but I just swapped the air spring in the 38’s to make it 170. And kept the fox x2 rear, but removed the spacer to make it 65mm 170. I do love this bike….. also I went raw metal because of your paint hate.
I'm thinking to do the exact same thing - can you comment on your perceived advantages or drawbacks? I believe the 170mm front raises the front a little and thus slackens etc, was this a noticeable effect at all? Transition clearly made a purposeful choice to roll the bike out at 160, so there must be some drawback right? Our trails in Squamish are all in the harsh category so more travel seems appropriate...
@@steffenlee2960 I really like it. I don’t really have MTB trails here. A lot of hiking and horse trails so their really rough. The Sentinel is 170 all around an a very similar frame just not a mullet. The slackness really I don’t notice until I’m coming of super steep and chunky. The back doesn’t really change it just sinks more when I hit big jumps. I got pedal strikes before any changes so 🤷🏽♂️. It’s just a low bike. I’m 210 and also run 4 spacers in the front ant two in the back for better progressives.
I have run both Ohlins and EXT coils. They are both outstanding and you can't go wrong with either. The EXT is slightly lighter and has hydraulic bottom out which the Ohlins doesn't have. The Ohlins is a little cheaper. The EXT also has slightly more adjustment range but also requires tools to adjust. None of those things are huge deals to me though and wouldn't sway me too much. The most important thing in my opinion is having the shock tuned for your bike and riding style. Get whichever you are able to have tuned. If you're just going to run a generic off-the-shelf tune you're wasting your money with these fancy shocks. The one complaint I have about my EXT is I can't get it serviced locally which is annoying. I can get my Ohlins serviced and tuned only 15 minutes from where I live.
I see you have a large, how tall are you? Do you feel like its the correct size? As a 5'11" rider im in between the medium and large, but usually like smaller bikes
Hey man, I'm wondering why you didn't just increase the travel of your old 38 instead of buying an entirely new fork. Did you just want the orange lowers? I'm genuinely curious because I'm considering buying this bike and putting a 170 up front
I was actually going to put the orange 38 on my Repeater. Ended up deciding to put it on the Patrol instead. Took the 38 from the Patrol and put it on the Repeater.
Love the bike, thinking of changing from a L to a M, but I am only 5'9. Tried an M and sems to fit slightly better, how tall are you just out of curiosity. PS Really enjoy your content
Does the Patrol suck to climb a fire road with? Also, why did you choose the patrol over the sentinel or the spire? Looking at the patrol for my next bike.
I’m my opinion, all bikes suck to pedal. Some may be more efficient but that just means you’re going faster. Patrol doesn’t feel horrible to pedal to me. I wanted a mullet bike so that’s why I got the patrol.
Is it common for people to blow up their X2 shock? I've had mine for over a year, maybe it's cause I don't weigh much (150lbs) but I feel like I ride pretty hard, nothing like you guys but I've been to the bike park (Thunder, Mountain Creek, Killington) about 40 times and haven't had any problems with it ... Or my carbon frame (Mach 6).
Don't worry about it... Lol. I have a 2022 aluminum patrol, and it is heavier than my last bike but climbs very similarly. It is definitely not the bike for someone looking for a XC machine. But for enduro and bike park purposes it is perfect.
Hi man, great video! I've had that patrol for almost a year now. I love it, but im not sure I got the right size. Im 5'11 '' and using an M frame, how tall are you? any recomendations? Thanks!
I just got a new patrol in large. Coming off of a 2015 Giant Reign 2 that was X-Large. I thought it was too small at first, but after a little bit of experimenting with seat post & handlebar height, I have to say, it's a pretty good fit. I put my seatpost up pretty high and raised my handlebars by a few millimeters, and it feels great while climbing. Only thing is, my seat post likes to "settle" down after a long uphill, so I'm going to put some friction paste on the post so it stays exactly where I set it without having to tighten the clamp too tight. I would love to hear more people's opinions on the sizing and how they get the perfect set up. When this bike is riding perfectly it is incredible.
it is puzzling that you moved away from a carbon frame for durability reasons, yet still want carbon 2.5" from the ground - in your rims. If you are blowing up carbon frames, how are you not blowing up carbon rims?
Sick bike E 13 is garbage. Nothing but trouble with that brand. You should check out Spoke X Bike Co. They have an in house carbon wheel called the SX 310 and it comes with Hydras or onyx hubs. They do in house powder coating too. My friend Hunter owns the company. If you want a bomb proof wheel for the park check those out. I ride every weekend at Northstar and not one issue. The spokes will not break like the e 13 wheels either.

I appreciate your thoughts and experience you shared. I’m interested in getting a patrol in the near future. Short and simple. 👍🏾

i can't get ower how good that coil looks
Me too😍
Lol. I have bought black bikes for years bc black gloss nail polish been my touch up. Cool that Transition has the factory paint.
Good thinking!

That’s a very interesting analogy but I like it. Is that 7000 series aluminum as strong or is there a sacrifice in strength for the reduced weight?
@@Blake_Cherubini 7000 series aluminum is stronger and more durable than 6000 series aluminum. Looking to get this bike asap, just need to sell my old bike first. Cannot wait to get riding on this thing!
That EXT shock looks soooo good
Feels even gooder!
You jacked homie! Should throw out some training / fitness content. What sports you play growing up?
I would enjoy seeing the spire
Do a review on the ext shock please... I want to buy one for my spectral and wanted to hear your opinion
Pls review that ext. and yes chase also. Pls pls pls.

Need a long term spire review next
Just got a Med one. Love it.
Love to hear it!
Would love to hear a video of the spire update!!
Great review! Helpful! Thanks!
I used to own the previous model transition patrol and I had the same issue with the paint, the bike looked 3 years old after 6 months

I run the same rear shock on my Specialized Enduro
Do you like it?
The shock performs awesome! I do change the spring rate depending on the trails for the day.
Curious if you've ever looked into running a Cascade link on your Patrol?
Hey bud, really apprectiate the video. Would you know if the seat tube can fit 170mm dropper? Thanks
I believe so

It’s much more common on trunnion bikes I believe because more stress is put on the shock body rather than going through a bushing first
Nice vid. Could you please share how much it weighs?

Why no logos on the front tire?
Prototype
Ext review… nice 👍
No lockout is crazy
Why?
Do you know how much the different shocks changed the bb height/head angle?
State that on transition web site for most of the newer bike different between two shock sizes
Shock eye to eye is the same so the shock itself will not change any geo. The fork is what changed it
How tall are you??
Can I build this in both 27.5 wheels?
Technically, yes. It would just steepen the HTA and lower the BB height
