using cancer drugs letrozole, anastrozole and one other all affected the function of my kidneys to such a stage that my kidneys stopped filtering and became heavy and painful and my bladder hardly passed water so I had to stop taking them. Once I did my bladder and kidneys started filtering the waste again and after three weeks became normal. I went to my specialist who said it was not noted as a side effect and to keep taking cancer drug. I had to make a decision - my kidneys or possible cancer - I chose my kidneys as they seemed to be in imminent danger. I do get bladder infections quite often but they did not appear to take this into consideration. Sometimes you just have to figure things out for yourself as I felt my specialist wasn't listening.

What happens by stopping the cancer drug? does that mean you’re going to have a reoccurrence or does it just mean that your chances of having a reoccurrence are a little greater and by how many percentage?

@@loriswan2556 I have a mamogram every year instead of every two years. It was scary at first coming off my cancer drug but I made a health decision. I needed to protect my kidneys over cancer which may or may not come back. I have been 4 years clear now. I check myself every week and if I am worried I get an appointment with the breast clinic. So far so good with no cancer drugs. I have been lucky so far but even if I take cancer drug doesn't mean I will not get cancer. Everyone has to make this decision after talking with oncologist. The percentage is unclear but fore warned is fore armed.

My oncologist told me he liked Aromatase Inhibitors over Tamoxifen. I started on Letrozole but was having trouble with my cholesterol going up. The oncology pharmacist and nurse pulled the research and Letrozole caused high cholesterol in over 52% of patients so they switched me to Anastrozole. My cholesterol is still creeping up despite diet, so in my opinion it’s related to the aromatase inhibitors. The oncologist agreed that Letrozole and Anastrozole are sister drugs, just like any drug, sometimes one may work better for someone depending on the side effects they have.

Are there different drugs for Estrogen vs Progesterone? Never see any info on that. Are they different in terms of treating after chemo and surgery? or are they the same? Do you have any info on that? Awesome site and thank you for what you do for people.

I had ovarian cancer and did six round of chemo and given the all clear. My oncologist has put me on letrozole since my tumor had estrogen receptors on it. I am on this for appx 2 years I think? I am not sure why I need to be on it. Can you explain?

What happens if you do not want any aromatase therapy and use more holistic approach with food and supplements? Do you have any data on that? I am 67 years young and do not want to feel like crap for five years which I consider will be my best five years of my last quarter.

There are options to lower your risk. For those options they would need to strategic and customized to you. The best approach would be to book a complimentary consultation and see what option would work best for you.

What are the side effect differences between Anastrazole and Letrozole?
Am thinking of requesting a switch from Tamoxifen due to insomnia and joint pain.
I've heard Anastrazole can cause bone pain so because I have osteoarthritis, I'm wondering if a switch to Letrozole would help me at all. I'm 52, but I feel like an old lady.
I exercise most days, eat a really healthy diet most days and get at least 10,000 steps in daily.

Side effects can vary from person to person so it would be best to discuss this with your team.

But estrogen is required for many body functions, it shoukd not be lowered that much. The health maybe destroyed after 5 or 7 years. I started anastrozole 10 months ago but my weight gain increased in the last 6 months.
