Being 18 or 19 when this song came out. After a huge break up after 2 yrs of dating. I truly needed to hear these words. Life changing. Thank you Lee Roy.
True. There's something very calming about a lot of 90s and older country. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the music on the radio today is part of what CAUSES road rage, lol.
"There's a lesson I've learned..if you live long enough you'll find the one who is looking for you ..". Thank Tony Arata for this song. ❤. (He wrote The Dance)
thank you, i never knew Tony wrote this as well. he also wrote “here i am” recorded by Patty Loveless. so that’s 3 of my all time favorite songs, written by him.
Here is a live version of him with the whole ending solo. It simply takes you to a whole other place, level, and world. Just WOW!!! ua-cam.com/video/9LvkFvAqEWg/v-deo.html
Again I hate to do this but the use of the term “underrated” is wrong here. Mr Parnell is a fine singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He has played with some of music’s best and greatest. You can look him up and see all the work he has done and all the awards he has received. He is not underrated, I say he is properly rated-Rated EXCELLENT.
A great song by a great country rock player. His slide work throughout the song is so subtle and when he gets to open up on the solo at the end he really tears it up. I love this guy.
(Verse 1] You said the only thing harder than sayin goodbye Was sayin hello after all this time When I ran into you with your new love in tow You said you're worried about me and you wanna know How am I getting by [Chorus] Thank you, I'm holdin' my own Don't you worry 'bout me no more It hurt me when you left me alone But there's two sides to every door And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known So thank you, I'm holdin' my own [Verse 2] Your new love walked on up while we said goodbye You took my hand and you caught my eye Told me there's a chance for another try You would love to hear from me some sweet time I guess you didn't understand [Repeat Chorus]
[Bridge] There's a lesson I learned When the love stays true If you look long enough You'll find the one who's lookin' for you [Chorus] Right now I'm holdin' my own Don't you worry 'bout me no more It hurt me when you left me alone But there's two sides to every door And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known So thank you, I'm holdin' my own Thank you, I'm holdin' my own
I have always adored this song, and finally I got to play a songwriter's night with the writer. It gave me a deeper understanding of how important an amazing song is to an "artists" career. Lee Roy killed this song, Tony told me that he sent in the roughest tape of this song, and then received Lee Roy's interpretation and was blown away.
Hell Yeah!! I love LEROY PARNELL'S SLIDE GUITAR STYLE MAKES ME CRANK IT UP ALL THE WAY AND IT IS ENOUGH ON MY MA 12" SUBS TO MAKE YHE RAP CROWD TO TURN THEIR HEADS WHEN I ROLL BY
This was one of my favorites songs back in the early 90's Heard some guy paying it in Nashville a couple weeks ago. He nailed it and I rediscovered it. Been playing ever since Incredible music and performance from LRP !
Country artists today need to hear what real country is.
Pure 90 country music.a Golden era of country music
So underrated! I do remember this!
Now this is real Country music !
Being 18 or 19 when this song came out. After a huge break up after 2 yrs of dating. I truly needed to hear these words. Life changing. Thank you Lee Roy.
I like your logo
Gosh, if the radio stations would play songs like this, it would end road rage.
True. There's something very calming about a lot of 90s and older country. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the music on the radio today is part of what CAUSES road rage, lol.
Yes!
Lee Roy is the most underestimated guitar player and singer in country music,, 2020
I agree
Agreed. He’s no doubt one of the 90’s country icons but it’s really a shame his guitar playing was so horribly underrated.
And in 2021!
2021
Amen one of the best slide guitarest ive ever seen
Old guy speaking, Lee Roy is a favorite and one of the better options for viewing on this site.

A big thanks to Lee Roy. I have used the lesson from this song a few times. It gives me great strength. Blessings to all.
Best part of that video - for me - was his guitar solo at the end.
He plays like a guy who is SO at ease with his guitar.
Here is a live version of him with the whole ending solo. It simply takes you to a whole other place, level, and world. Just WOW!!!

Monster Song !
A great song by a great country rock player. His slide work throughout the song is so subtle and when he gets to open up on the solo at the end he really tears it up. I love this guy.
Tony Arata wrote this, same guy who wrote 1990's "The Dance" for Garth Brooks and 1994's "Dreaming With My Eyes Open" by Clay Walker.
Love, Love this song❤

I love this artist and his girlfriend, Lisa! My newly discovered favorites!!!
Absolutely!!! And, I must say, you are beautiful!!
(Verse 1]
You said the only thing harder than sayin goodbye
Was sayin hello after all this time
When I ran into you with your new love in tow
You said you're worried about me and you wanna know
How am I getting by
[Chorus]
Thank you, I'm holdin' my own
Don't you worry 'bout me no more
It hurt me when you left me alone
But there's two sides to every door
And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known
So thank you, I'm holdin' my own
[Verse 2]
Your new love walked on up while we said goodbye
You took my hand and you caught my eye
Told me there's a chance for another try
You would love to hear from me some sweet time
I guess you didn't understand
[Repeat Chorus]
[Bridge]
There's a lesson I learned
When the love stays true
If you look long enough
You'll find the one who's lookin' for you
[Chorus]
Right now I'm holdin' my own
Don't you worry 'bout me no more
It hurt me when you left me alone
But there's two sides to every door
And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known
So thank you, I'm holdin' my own
Thank you, I'm holdin' my own
just a great song that's all i can say.
What else needs to be said?
i still hope someday ill find someone that loves me as much as i do her?
By far his best song
I have always adored this song, and finally I got to play a songwriter's night with the writer. It gave me a deeper understanding of how important an amazing song is to an "artists" career. Lee Roy killed this song, Tony told me that he sent in the roughest tape of this song, and then received Lee Roy's interpretation and was blown away.
Leroy knew the allman brothers I think that's where the slide guitar comes from Duane allman
I love Lee Roy Parnell and his music.

Like RB.
Where's he at today, you never hear anything about him
Yes it is. Another top notch C&W act that did not get to be a big as he should have been. Very wrong as far as I am concerned.
Cest la vie.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Still listening in 2021.
Does anyone know the tuning for the slide solo? A guy told me years ago, but I can’t find it now. Uncommon tuning, but awesome.
She's never yours ,its just your turn
Can't live with her. U figure the rest
Who’s that pretty lady in the video?
Yes such a pro on the strings i like how brad pasley plays also just not a fan of his music
