- In the beginning, when Granblue Fantasy was first launched, players were divided into several groups. The original Gacha System in Granblue Fantasy is also very different compared with what we have nowadays.
We are going to travel back to five years ago, right before the 6th anniversary, and look at the history of Granblue Fantasy. Together, we will revisit some of the most memorable measures and implementations that change this game forever.

I remember my first event in this game was "Boots & Blade" (not the rerun) and I'm still journey on this sky realm to this day.
I think another impact changed in this game was Full Auto System. Which allow me to grind GW when I'm too busy to focus on playing while need to meet my crew quota or doing other stuff that I need to do in real life. Very convenient but I still enjoy playing manually anyway.
Koon, as you mention about Arcarum I agree that if new player started the game now they will be lacking far behind in getting Evoker Character. I hope Cygames will notice this and decided to help new players to get easy Arca points and catching up with recruiting Evoker to their team.
Yeah. Maybe they would give new players a boost, something like giving them free arcarum items or extra evolite to catch up with old players, but there must be something rewarding for old players to recognise their royalty.
For real, astras are a big problem besides the evolite
I started playing GBF around November 2019, because of my best friend, who forces me a bit. From that, i play on a daily basis. GBF became a part of my life, like no other games did, and i'm confident that in years, when all my game tastes will had a change, GBF will always be a game i'd love to play. I am French, and sometimes it makes me upset that i don't speak a word of japanese, so i can't really understand anything around. This is the worst point of GBF, i think, but i can play the game, so whatever ?
At the start of my journey, i had Melleau, which was my best charac, and i was really happy when she did a TA of 4k damages both hits. Now, when i see my teams, doing 140k damages per attacks, i feel like i was a beginner. I always had the feeling of progressing, and i started from nothing, to what i am now. And i know that i'm faaaar away from many other players. I don't feel like a senpai yet, even though i definitively have something of it.
I think the features i loved the most were quality of life features, for tracking weapons, or more recently : Arcarum summons.
I'm very curious of what GBF can do for his players, what will it do. Sometimes, i even feel like i have to learn japanese and join Cygames, to help them doing their job, and feel like i did something for this game.
And, i really feel like GBF is a game made for players, not for money. When i see 100 cristals in my crate, with a little sticker on it, telling me "Thank you for bearing with us", i wanna reply "Thank you for all the work you do, thank you for your game". When i see the Roulette, i always feel like "Aaah, the team is so kind they gives us many free draws..". I don't even feel like it's marketting, or anything. I feel like they do that, because they know we all like that, and feel happy.
Beside all of this, i may be rank 130, i am a big slacker. I used the wiki so much, without doing anything by myself. I don't even thanked the Team for their amazing work. I am a player, among many others.
I really love GBF.

About the free crystals and apologems, I feel they are pretty generous too :P That's why I keep on playing. Chinese players even say Cygames is a game company with 'Buddha's heart' lol... I can't disagree.

Well done really enjoyed this video, especially as a newer player I loved to see how the game became what it is today. For me one of the best changes that came to the game is that you are able to click on an item or character and the games shows you which quests you have to farm for it. Happy 2020 to you all !

Great video! I've been playing GBF off/on for about 2ish years now, closer to 2 1/2 total! So while I haven't seen all these major changes come out, I have experienced some more recent ones like Full Auto & etc... still salty I can't get anything related to Defense Order tho! lol

holy cow i remember seeing your vids when i was on my noobie year in GBF, for awhile i forgot to see what you've been up to til today. Started in oct 2018 during bistro feendrache event and albert's event. They have been very helpful for me, currently need to grind mats to uncap stuff.
No rush, 6th anniversary is coming. Maybe they would give free stuff to give you a boost :)
@@CrusaderKoon Tbh I prefer grinding since it gives me a goal to work towards to, in terms of freebies I would prefer characters and/or summs. My Light & dark team needs 100%+ atk main summs. At times it gets overwhelming on what to focus on, so much to uncap it's crazy.
My first event was "Right behind you" like 2 years ago, i remember I freaked out when I get summon from the box, I was like "no way, a SSR summon, I love this game". Now summon from event is just quartz. Now in days I Just need 2 more grimnir harps to finish my magna 2 wind grid.

Super awesome video, Koon. It was really cool seeing history on some of the big changes that GBF has gotten. I started the game in early 2017, and I didn't realize how tough things were before then.
I 100% agree with you on the casino. I got so tired of my bad luck in it that I don't play casino at all anymore. It really takes the fun out of the game.
Here are some QOL changes I am still waiting for:
- Draw All, Auto-Sell, and Auto-Upgrade options for Free Rupie Draw (I really don't like doing all 101 free draws manually)
- Mass +Mark Reset (would help a lot when you get a ton during +Mark banners)
- Mass favorite/unfavorite (I use it a lot to prevent accidents)
- Premium Draw indicator for weapons and summons in your inventory (makes it easier to tell what is potential fodder or important)
- Auto skill upgrade for basic fodder creation (I spend a lot of time creating skill up fodder)
I spend a lot of time doing inventory management so QOL changes focusing in that area would be great.

I have been a casual gamer since the early 80s and i started playing GBF about two years ago. It is an incredibly rewarding expierience, but it feels like the most dense and complicated game i've ever played. I am just now starting to get my omega grids in good shape. I'm learning new things all the time and still feel like a noob. Your videos has been a great help with understanding the mechanics and strategy of the game. Good luck in 2020!

I started playing right as the Farrah event ran and Naru was released into the gacha. Nov 1st 2015. Ive never been so invested in a game or kept going with one thing without dropping it for so long, so I am proud of myself for still going strong and loving this game more than I did before. Even if I'm slower than people who started playing after me.
It is fine to be slow I guess. I'm a casual player too, and I have no plan to go hardcore.

I remember finding out about this game in freshman year of high school, one of my friends kept talking about this “Belial” character and I couldn’t help but be intrigued. My first event was the first run of Paradise Lost and with it I fell in love with the world of this game. My goal was to keep playing until I had obtained a playable Belial, it was just a joke but when his summon released I felt so shaken that he wasn’t sparkable... now, other than getting that summon, I don’t really have a goal. I’m here for the ride and wherever it takes me.

When i started the game the Casino was already a thing, i guess i'm one of the lucky ones that got Anchira on blind luck at the last legfest of her year (put a ring on that girl, i did). I really missed that one Defense order fight that REALLY gated me from the skin (until now that trophy mocks me with its almost completion).The Emnity Meta from back then was a cancer to me, and i only got the "All-Element power support" Korwa the moment she stopped being relevant (it really rubbing salt in the open wound) but hey at least i can safety boast that i went and build 6 element parties for the introduction of Seraphic weapons.
Well, I got Korwa after she was nerfed, it's a bit sad to miss that wonderful era... how awkward...

I reallly hope that with the more international perspective Cygames is targeting moving forward, GBF will get future, big QOL changes to draw the attention of a more global audience. By that I mean continuing to make the way to end-game more enjoyable and light-footed. F.ex. make the grind for M2 weapons easier by reducing prestige pendants cost or increase drop rates.
I have quite a few friends that would start this game, but the huge entry barrier just lets all of them give up on the way within days.
I'm probably making a lot of people angry by saying this (and that isnt my attention), but I just wish they would make further, amazing changes to QOL and content. So I can have more people to share the experience, to enjoy the game even a little bit more because the grind becomes easier and more fun. I love the game, but I want it to be more than what it is now. And I dont mean adding more meaningless grinds.
Im happy with what Cygames created here and I'm happy that we got you to build up a community, Koon.

Summer Zoey simply crushed everything into ashes... and I believe, for years to come. She is still standing tall in the character rating chart after all these years, too overpower.

Hopefully they could add more things in there to enhance that 'randomized' feel in dungeon crawling.
Full auto is a blessing too, after all these years most of us are more busy/don't have as much passion for mindless grinding.
I actually ditched the game after viramate was gone because without quick skills it was more tedious than fun. So many clicks. It's still as tedious now for active gameplay, but now, with full auto, I only need to play actively for content I can't full auto. Which is good enough to balance the +'s and -'s for me to come back to the game.
So true, I have so little time for games now. The auto function really is something.
I started to play GBF in 2017, drop it for collage and retake it in jun 2018 after graduation. I think retake the game was a good decision. I love this game even with all its imperfections. Nice video master Koon!
Agree K.J, this game worth the investment. As long as one is not addicted, I think this a nice game for both hardcore and casual players. Stories and voice acting are good selling points too!
I started this game because I saw Fraux in 2018.
She's still in NPC categories in wiki, but my friend tell me that she will be a playable character very soon.
My friend gave me his starter account so I can be stronger faster, and I started the hell grinding in March 2018 LOL
My friend invited me to his crew and said he & his crewmates will carry the guild war and I just need to try my best to help them in guild war. My first GW is Snowwhite and recruited Sarasa from the GW's gold bar so that I can clear "The World" and open Arcarum content.
And after almost 2 years , I'm a happy skyfarer with my fraux.

I also believe that the first acarum event (not The World raid) was also very impactful in how the dev plan their new event afterwards. Still remember that day when the red rules the land and those gracious apologems LOL

honestly ive been part of the game since DO (defense order). The biggest changes I remember was mostly character changes, eternals FLB, and.. well thats it really. My list is mostly on positive impact, I always look forward to the character re balance updates to see if they ever add anything meaningful, sometimes they do. I honestly wish I could say I would take the journey again, but I can confidently say I wouldn't, Ill cherish my memories of the game but I have quit for a reason after many faithful years.

I started almost 3 years ago, and for me, one of the best features added to the game has been "full auto" mode, the GW life is much more enjoyable thanks to it.
Other good minor change with great results was the implement of vessels, it was very annoying have like 2k archangel weapons and see how it goes to trash because you don't had anything to improve and few days latter you get a new weapon or character and have 0 to level up.
I know that nothing is known yet but, speaking about changes i am excited to see the new battle system 2.0.
This is probably one of the earliest comment about full auto in this comment section. 7 or 8 people were talking about this, and I couldn't believe I didn't include this in the video lol...
Definitely Full Auto option, that makes my daily grindings less a pain in the ass XD Thanks for your helpful guides though, your videos helped me progress in the game a lot when I first started playing GBF. Now I am at rank 195 and the attack ace of my casual tier C guild. My current goal is to get the super saiyan eternal skin just to flex to my crewmates www

To be honest, in my opinion, the biggest game changer of them all was the official English translation .
I joined GBF during the first run of L.E.T.S H.A.N.G, it was quite difficult for me to play during back then since everything was in Japanese for me. If the translation never came out, I doubt I would be playing this game to this day. With it, I could enjoy the Street Fighter V and Ultra Street Fighter IV event. Can't agree more, English option has such a great impact. I do hope they can do more to promote this game, and let players in other countries, especially non-asians to discover the beauty of it.

Well.. if you asked what changed my journey in the game, none because I just played this game last year weeks before summer started and that time was hard.
Deals barely a damage, limited in options of Character/summons, and now I quite grow slowly and my grid are getting a little by little better than the last year thanks to all senpais and every UA-camr that gave me an references.

First event was technically let’s hang, when it was first released. I didn’t have the English option at first but when I heard it was being implemented soon and premium gala with free ten rolls were going due to friends on twitter telling me about it I decided to jump in the game. First ten roll ever, I got bahamut. Didn’t think much about it until friends told me it was one of the most powerful summons in the game, after that motivation and the slog of starting up a new acc with the help and knowledge of friends I was going off and on again to the game.
Speaking of arcarum, I SERIOUSLY hope that forging the arcarum weapons require less elemental astras because I have so much verum proofs from just blindly grinding aquila so much. Thankfully it bore fruit because I got alanaan the first week of December, I’m celebrating by making a new evoker but I’m stumped on which one to do since my grids then have improved significantly
The time without English option actually gave me a push, and forced me to pick up Katakana and Hiragana. :D
I got into granblue out of curiosity in August 2016, clueless about everything for at least a month before I ignore gbf. But it was during Platinum Sky where my most of my LINE mate (much like Discord group) got into granblue fantasy. I remember my mate was salty when I pulled Yuisis (a new character at that time). Since then, we started to progress together (good ol' magna time), got satly toghether when gacha update (or got lucky ofc, but most of us since then hold for sparks), and ofc for the GW. Our guild's playstyle is Semi-casual and recently broke daily record of 500M honor despite losing (about 2B total honor, only good enough for Tier B), but since I 'carried' in GW (one or two of us did better than me in guild), I got myself at a crossroad. I started wondering whether should I find a new guild to be able to push to tier A or stick with the ones I already knew since the 'beginning' of my journey.
For me, the most impactful change granblue implemented is the Reserve Vessel one. no more wasted angels and fodders For God's Sake. And Sparking System (and monkeygate preceding it? Not only it DID change granblue fantasy gacha system, but also THE ENTIRE flawed Japanese moblie gaming gacha system. Without monkeygate and granblue's spark system, there wouldn't be any spark in Priconne or Deresute (just to name a few) and transparent draw rate statement at any gacha game.
Oh yes, no monkeygate no moons for dupes.
But despite this change not requiring more fund to pull gacha (just 300 against 2000+ pulls if not lucky), whales are still whales (duh).

Honestly I'm still new to this game, I started on the golden week special of last year I'm not a hardcore player but I enjoy this game a lot, for me this is the perfect gacha game

Even though my very best friend guided to me to play this game like almost 2 years ago as an very alternative gacha game, i'm one of the very few persons who actually keeps playing Granblue in my country. This game, even with his grindy and competitive agenda, guided me through a very insipid moment of my life when I lost all inspiration to do things, rewarded me in a time when the only thing i receive was disappointment and shame, and the most important thing, it made me happy and motivated even if the day was though and hard to deal with.
Nowadays, I'm still a free user though (i dont have a card to waste on premium tixes yet), but I make sure every second I waste on Granblue counts, the bad times for me are gone but my journey on a good life had begun, Granblue though? I feel happy now that im almost there to get my first Evoker (Geisenborger) and I finally got Tier A for the first time, I will do my way through endgame content as soon as I can.
Thanks for channels like yours, they made me understand the games basics when my e-friends saw it as an boring grind hell, i never saw it like that and even when I got bored with the game, I regained my enthusiasm by content such as advice,memes,artwork,music and anime from Granblue. I'm proud with my progress, the game itself,the community and content like yours, thank you very much!

Finding a guild that would talk to me was a game changer. Grinding used to be miserable and tedious. Now it's still miserable, but at least I have crewmates I can talk to and share my woes with.

I started with the lovelive event, a year and a half. Then I couldn't stop. This game got me, I left everything else and I have no regrets. Being part of this journey was the best decision.

granblue as a whole is a game that changed my view on gacha based JRPG's,it proves that if you dedicate your time to the game it will pay off at some point making it feel rewarding,every single step,even when small,you can feel the progress,overall its a amazing game that i wished more people would know......and plz bring Defend Order back,looked soo fun
I totally agree. Pay-to-win is a disease in new era, while GBF is one of the most important pioneer in terms of gameplay mechanism. That's why all of us spend so many years playing this 2D stuff, yet we still love it. :P

Started at late july 2017. I was so fun when magna raid is still a thing. At that moment, we still need 4 - 7 players on NM100 GW (even most of my crewmate cant solo nm 90 LMAO). Meanwhile GBF nowdays is all about solo.

So the mechanism make a lot different is the full auto, that help me a lot if i busy.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot. You know when prism crystal, book, orb only can played at certain times? And know they make us can grind it every day.

JAJAJA i can't believe i had played this game for so long. I remember i downloaded the PC thing because it looked like Final Fantasy, i even expected it to be made by Squaresoft. I was never hardcore on this game, i grind but not as much as i should, so i know what i have to do, but i'm so casual and never felt the need to build grids, that i end up slacking again and again. anyway i'm still having fun, tho PROUD dificulty really hit me with a nasty reality check and i can't see myself gtting to beat it any time soon.
A good memory i have is that i got the Order of the Lord's exclusive skin and summon just in time before that event was taken out forever. Defense order were really nasty and was such a noob, i seriously don't know how i managed xD
