- Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising revealed a new trailer and gameplay revealing some major things! New characters, a release date, and probably the one thing that fighting games need the most right now: a free-to-play model! Here is my reaction to that trailer and my thoughts on the news!

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is the updated sequel to Granblue Fantasy Versus (GBVS), developed by Arc System Works (ArcSys) and released initially back in 2020. Taking place in the popular Granblue Fantasy universe, this 2.5D fighting game is known for its Skybound Arts, which are specials that have a cooldown timer, and features a wide array of popular Granblue characters including Gran, Katalina, Lancelot, Charlotta Fenia, Metera, Narmaya, Zooey, and more. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising incudes Rollback Netcode and is playable on Playstation 4 (PS4), Playstation 5 (PS5), and PC (Steam).

50$ for all that jam packed content and a free version is actually goated
For those who did not purchase GBFVS at launch and paid DLCs, thats such a good deal compared to new entry in the genre.
Just the casual co-op story mode and online party games makes it worth it imo.
I hope you still get access to party games with the free trial to fill up instances.
I'm actually so excited for this
They said $50 and I was like hell yeah and then they said free and I jumped out my seat saying “YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY IT?!?!!?” They are scared of project L coming out and they want to get on top of that
@@Grim_Budu get the party games for free (it’s not a trial)
@@YoTerrako I don't understand, the fighting game and party games are two diferent applications? Or the party game is included into the free trial of the fighting game?
Free version has ranked, Arcade, the mini games and the first 1/3 of the story. Crazy. $50 bucks for everything is insane value imo.
Also they confirmed that they found a way to add costumes that's easier since ARC never does costumes. Granblue has some amazing costumes so that's awesome.
"insane value" that should be the norm lmao. games getting too expensive nowadays
Damn imagine swinsuit vers. One can only wish. 😭
My only goal is to hop online and cause some emotional damage with Charlotta so the fact that I can do this for $free.99 now is an absolute blessing.
I am so hyped for this game. More good news it seems! I am also on the side of the e-z inputs are good for the game.
We're gonna be cooking Grans for days since he's the only character that never changes in the F2P roster rotation (it's him and 3 randoms). F2P version is huge, people complaining about the price or people who live in 3rd world countries have no excuse now. I can't wait to see who the best F2P player is for their respective 3rd world regions lol.
Hey you know what? Maybe I’ll really get into the game finally, I played a bit of the lastest one and it’s not so bad. I’m more of fighterz and GG person but I don’t mind.
now everyone on earth should try this game
So you get to play the game for free but only have 4 chars to play in multiplayer?
Yeah, yeah, lot of content, good price, f2p option... That music though 🔥🔥🔥
They're out here taking a page out of dffnt's book that got written AFTER the game failed, this game doing it at launch is hella smart and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
No upgrade price plan for people with GBVS. i was hoping it would be like Xrd to Rev 2
This game is my game of the year, I have a week off work scheduled for it and I am beyond hype to see it come back. I've played the base game even to this day (though mostly only for local events now since most folks are taking a break with SF6 til Rising) and this game will consume so much of my life when it comes out.
While I 100% love the F2P model they are going with as it doesn’t intrude on the main paid experience and solely exists to help new players try the game and buy it if they like it. I’m not a fan of the price as someone who has bought the original game plus all of the DLC characters.
It feels like would be paying for what feels like a large update and a new season of like 4 new characters. If the price was reduced for people who owned the original game I would be more interested, but as someone who only ever played GBFV casually and is more invested in other games at the moment paying the price of a full brand-new game for an updated version of a game that I already put a good amount of money into turns me off.
How the hell is doubling the singleplayer story content and having a new Fall Guys online mode FOR FREE just a "large update" to you and not worth the price tag?
@@alter9933 If it was something like Xrd and SF4's different versions where players who already owned the game could upgrade for a cheaper price then I would be fine with it. But as someone who bought the original game for full price and bought all of the DLC I feel a little ripped of having to pay $50 for a game that I already own like 70% of.
Meanwhile DNF out here trying to get people to buy the game for 50$
So they taking the Dead Or Alive route 🤔 interesting.
All that's left to see is regional pricing, really. Original GBVS did a great job with that, so I'm hopeful. All this for $50 is great value, specially if you didn't buy the old one at full price.
GBVSR will be directly published by Cygames, and they have very generous regional pricing
That clip at the end of the trailer with Belial watching someone fall out of the sky. If Rising is anything like base, could we see the final boss as a playable? If so, He will return. Give praise...
Devote Yourself
fortunately that means I can try the netcode before deciding to buy it or not
You can try the netcode in the game's upcoming second open crossplay beta, in case you can't take the word and glowing reviews of people who tried beta 1.
Looking forward to returning to my boy Vaseraga
6 dlc characters for season 1 is crazy. Knowing how big this game fanbase are, i hope this game can get more than 2 seasons
I think they should do what Brawlhalla does i think is 5 characters free that rotate and than wining matches give you coins to unlock new characters
I definitely think this approach adds longevity to the game
with them just simply adding a free version to let you play and feel the game is already so much compared to what other fighting games do tho, they really need to learn how to please their potential costumers, adn granblue is doing a good job for now
Even being free doesn't make this game worth my time
You guys have no chance against my vaseraga😉👍
The changes to the ez inputs are hella cringe.
Grandblue for freeeeeee?😮
With so much coming out I'm so glad this is being released later
I pray that this game doesnt die
I am not a fan of the recent design direction this game has taken, however going f2p is huge and may be the move going forward for a lot of fighting games. I hope project L is also going to be f2p, if not I’ll pay but I hope it does.
Project L was confirmed to be Free to Play
Actually Project L that started the whole movement of f2p fighting game... They announced it was going to be free to play even before the nickelodeon and multiversus f2p games.
@@Lil_ducky_forever oh sweet, thanks y’all I got on the train a little late.
@@FaelituProject L was not the first F2P fighting game. Killer Instinct predates in, being F2P in 2013.
@@mindwarp42how is KI free to play? :o
Since they aren't being greedy I actually want to give them $50.
It’s a way for them to apologize for the previous failures
😂
They better add air dash in this one. Would blow Guilty Gear out of the water if they do
If nothing else, the free version ensures that Gran Bruise will always have a player base, lol!
Honestly the problem is the first game was $60 with two $35 season passes and I'm like now here's a new version for $50 with more dlc and the first version you bought is worthless.
At least they finally went down in price. Price of the first game and dlc was a subject of contention.
You had the game over a year, how is that worthless? It's like saying, me paying last year's rent was worthless because I have to renew my lease.
Yeah I hate when MK 11 comes out and now all my MK 10 dlc is useless.
@@KidArkx That's different. Mortal Kombat 11 is very different compared to X. Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising is in every way the definitive version of Granblue Fantasy Versus. It's closer to going from MVC3 to UMVC3, except it was a few years apart.
With this and granblue fantasy relink coming out also, definitely my favorite anime games of 2023
The game looks ridiculous
Now if there just were a single character I actually liked to play or watch it would be a great game.
I played the rising beta, im not feeling that unblockable thing they added, its already an offensive heavy game but the neutral got alot worse for characters like vaseraga
Yep. Its stupid as hell. Especially coupled with the cringe ass ez inputs. Because instead of incentivizing learning the game and improving player skill, they'd rather make it ez for the casuals. *PUKE*
I'll try it out and see if it can make the main roster looks promising though.
Are you more hype for GBFVR or GG season 3
I want to play re link :(
This game is gonna have rollback or not?
Yes, we already got a taste of if with the beta.
rollback + crossplay
I find it amazing how we get more info on their fighting game then their 8yr in development JRPG called Relink. 👀👀
Its not 8 years, its like, three, which is A: Perfectly normal, and B: They gave us a bunch of info very recently, the core GBF game only recently passed 8 years for a point of reference
Back then, i bought GBVS when it came out for the first time with some DLCs included so when u get the “free” edition of GBVSR does the DLCS u bought for GBVS gonna give any impact/effect for GBVSR??
Probably not it’s a separate game
... this pricing model is NOT new. Killer Instinct has been F2P with a different rotating character weekly since 2013, with rollback since day 1. You have always had the option of never paying for it at all, or only buying characters you liked, or buying everything. Being Xbox exclusive at first thanks to MS owning Rare IPs is why it never got as big as other games, although it later became available on PC through the MS Store and even later on Steam (although the Steam version has crossplay issues that hopefully the upcoming balance patch, announced at Evo, fixes).
Yeah, KI should have been an industry changer when it came out, but sadly the Xbox held it back. The game is almost perfect.
Yo wtf Arcsys listened to the internet? Did hell freeze over?
Not Arcsys, this was Cygames call
Wait, free to play now? Does that mean it’s gonna be a live service now? Cause I don’t see that as a W.
It has a f2p version. $50 regular/$75 deluxe. Not a live service.
You can buy the full game for $50 (28 characters, full story mode that includes OG GBVS story, party games, etc.) but there will be a free version that only has Gran + 3 rotating characters available, but with almost all online features included too. And free edition players can play with full game owners. Also, crossplay + rollback for everyone. There is going to be costumes, maybe battle passes, I dunno, but all that is just cosmetics
@@alfgart Oh. Ok. That’s fine.
@@alfgart Oh my very thanks for the clarification since i was really confused.
It being free makes me hype more than any of the new features or gamemodes. No cost ensures it'll have more lasting relevancy because you can't get more accessible than free, whether you couldn't afford the game before or were just curious but not ready to drop 50$. I think free to play is the future so hopefully this means we'll see the now GBVS series get the attention it deserves.
We better get Siete soon enough.
Also, how the fuck I mean PSN says that up to 64 online players looks to me like a one V1 shitty version of Mortal Kombat so where are the other 62 players?
There's multiplayer minigames that can handle large amounts of minigames, as well as hang-out lobbies that probably hit 64
The main game mode is a 1 v 1 fighting game, yes, there's a lot of them, and most of them are better than Mortal Kombat
Yo where MK1 at lol
This game better be f2p. Spent 60$ for the first game at launch and I thought it was really strange they kept pushing DLC for a game that never even had online matchmaking
You can play rising for free but you will have many restrictions.
It... did though? The matchmaking was not reliable but that was largely a player count issue, frankly the amount of support GBVS got despite its lacking playerbase is rather impressive
@@syrelian really because I had laggy connections with someone in my same city, while both of us were on Ethernet connection. That might have passed for functional online if the game was 20$ or came out in 2010 but I paid "premium" price for an experience worse than PS3 3s online
Rising has Rollback, so the netcode will actively be better.
If fighting games do what league of legends do, it would be insane, imagine having a free to play game with a few characters that rotate and you can buy more if you want, and instead of rereleasing the same game after a few years of the game being dead, which is called "same game rv2.5" or some shit like that; you got instead a new character with skins you can purchase every X time, just like in LoL. I think doing a live service like this in fighting games would improve the product much more.
Imtelling you guys, if the League fighting game comes out and its like this, is going to be one of the top games out there in terms of how alive and active is going to be.
Would practice against that character also be included or DO i need to buy that character to train against his/her/him/it/beast character?
@@theasianviking86 its all hypothetical, but they could do it so that you can play as and vs any character in the training mode only so that you can see if you like X character
and also to learn matchups
Games have already tried that, see Brawlhalla, its a workable plan but it requires a bunch of extra effort, and very importantly, makes the game far more dependent on its servers compared to when its just peer to peer and merely using matchmaking, which means if it ever shuts down it takes the whole game with it
After the motion input change you can make the game free and you'd still pay too much, I'm big mad! I truly hope this game dies, I'm a real hater!💀
Haters ball 2023!!!
If you played the game at all you’d know the controls actually don’t make much difference and it actually lets you just play the way you want. Pros are still going to style on you no matter how you play.
it wasnt there for the pro's, it's there to help ease my smash bro. homies into motion inputs without feeling stupid & to help them when they want to get into even more fighting games
If anything they should have improved on that system, not toss it aside. People just want thing's easy, they'll even pay for it instead of looking at execution as a facet
Not to mention I never got to play the original game cause of the net code wtf is this upgrade?
Marketing and demograph that's all it is
@@OhsnapklineYou can still do all the motion inputs grandpa
@@faiyez Why would somebody use motion inputs when the simple inputs give the exact same result? SF6 did it correctly by nerfing the damage of simple inputs. Granblue is just removing any reason to use them at all, and that just makes the game more swallow.
@@Syphilis_Buddy Let's see, in gbvs quarter circles and charge inputs were the extent of technicality for most of the roster. I'm glad to inform you that this is not big enough of a difference compared to the original. As someone who's been playing them since world warrior on the snes, there's much more to depth in a fighting game than motion inputs.
So...what was the change?
New mechanics, new characters, new game modes, story mode expansion, new unlockables, rollback netcode, removal of certain mechanics, better training mode options, new art style, and a free trial mode.
@@Wizard_Lizard_ No, I mean the "BEST CHANGE" they just made. All the things you listed is old news.
The "BEST CHANGE" was a trash free to play version of the game. Instead of giving people who already had the game a free upgrade or at least a reduced price.
Yeah... I'm not dropping 50 bucks for this just because it's got a Fall Guys game mode. 😂
I'll get it on sale, but all I wanted was rollback and new mechanics.
You can literally play the free version if $50 is not to your taste. You'll still be able to play until it goes on sale.
It’s got new mechanics, more story, new characters, rollback, fall guys, skins, and is retailing at $50 when other games start at $70. I’ll be there day one personally
@@sobervision1049what the difference between the free version and the full price version
$50 is a steal for what you get.
@@nessleepk The issue is that they removed mechanics in exchange for those new mechanics, and the new mechanics are worse. Removing the benefits attached to motion inputs makes them pointless and decreases depth, and having a massive throw tech window makes throws effectively useless. I was REALLY looking forward to this game since I have been wanting to play Granblue for years, but simplifying an already super basic game is just bad. It's like devs are looking to the failure of DNF Duel and trying to mimic it.
