- Testing a nice Sony Discman model D-33 from 1991, very high quality sound from that era, 8 times oversampling and dual digital to analog converter system.
3 megabass modes makes to sound good all kind of headphones.
Age of empires original game disc from 1997 was used for this test (first track is the data of the game) - Наука та технологія
I had one as a kid, a showroom one for cheap. This insane machine turned me instantly audiophile. The headphones were insane too but a bit un confortable. First CD spinned was Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark. I had another sony later with antiskip tech but it terms of sound quality and build it was not even comparable to this D33 beast. The bass ! Cristal clear sound. That was New at that time and i am pretty sure it beats lots of smartphones in terms of sound quality.
Yes, the headphone output is a beast!
@@macolest you still have the original headset ? I am looking for the reference. Maybe it is on the manual ?
Found it, original headphones are Sony MDR-A10. Also found a complete inbox D-33+headphones for 20€ :)
The D-33 is an underdog in the CD player market. They sound very nice and can be found for around $60 USD if you shop around. I bought one 3 years ago, with the box, AC adapter and headphones for about $30. Great unit!@@rs9553
I found my D-33 at a Goodwill for $4 several years ago. The sound with the dual DAC’s is amazing and unlike any player I’ve ever had. I have to tilt mine on it’s side so it can read the TOC, but after it starts playing, I can lay it down. Weird issue.
I remember getting this for xmas in 1991, along with some CDs - Metallica black album, Michael Jackon Dangerous, Madonna's Greatest hits (the first one), and for whatever reason I cannot remember the rest, but it was like a dozen.
I got a used Sony Car Discman recently, the model with ESP antiskip and all that, I'm plugged into it right now with Fostex RP40 closed back planar headphones, direct, no head amp,
and disc 2 of Siouxsie and the Banshees BBC box set, and let me tell you, it sounds better than a lot of stuff I'm playing via my PC and new Creative Labs G6 card. The Siouxsie
CD sounds warmer, the bass and drums more natural and balanced, and punchy, than a lot of digital stuff heard online. It was well worth it for the car, and home use. It also drives
planar headphones easily, which was shocking.
sony should bring bak that dot logo
+Gabriella leggs i'm agree !
Next time i will upload my CD-MP3, it's not as good as this one but let's say it's awsesome too!!
That’s a nice looking cd player. If I ever find one il defiantly be picking it up and I have a bunch of Duracell and Kirkland AA batteries and a good amount of cds so I’m set
I have that one and it still works well
this is so cool I love this back then in 1991 the year I was born when music compact discs came out to listen to it you lot 1991 in music from early 90s listening to even 80s music more rock, rap, R&B.
Very good quality and very loud output for headphones.
macolest yeah
Wow it's a sony i love you
I had the Sony D-33 back in the 90's. I had a sony playstation portable(psp) in 2006. I currently still use a sony playstation vita slim(2012) with sony extra bass sports earbuds(wf-sp800n) and 2 JBL xtreme speakers
I have one but it doesn't work at the moment. I think there's some corrosion in it but I'm hopeful I can fix it. Still THE best sounding portable disc player I have ever heard. People today are so used to MP3 that they don't realise what they're missing until they try one of these babies. Even then, the sound from the D-33 is much better than my later D-EJ775, especially the bass. **EDIT** Just got it working again. WOW!! The only hassle is that it doesn't like being moved, as was common in those days.
Would you still recommend getting the D-33? I just want nice sound and a reliable unit. I started researching the D-XX line last weekend. I had no idea Sony made so many portable CD players. Thanks.
mp3s sound like shit, and digital sounds like shit.
I have one!!
I have one of these in amazing working condition
Do you want to sell it?
No absolutely not, sorry.
No sorry, i'm still enjoying it.
What song was playing when you inserted the disc?
Took four AA batteries if I recall correctly. Played very well unless bumped.
I want one of these, Age of Empires Midi-cd quality! Not midi standard sound! I Still want Soundblaster Pro for my Pentium 100 mhz!
I love this discman
if the spindle hub is broken, just grab a playstation 1 hub for cheap on ebay. plug and play part. :-)
i own this one brand new :) with fullbox
My cousin have one in 90's
Nice one!
I have a D-33 but it receives no power :(
¡That's Cristal Clear sound! Age of Empires never sound that good.
