It's easier than what people realize. 25 years ago I went on a whole foods diet and within 3 months I was off of all my medications. All my food I eat is organic and nothing is processed. If I'm craving a burrito I make it from whole foods and haven't consumed any seed oils in many years. We never eat at restaurants

During my last check up, the MD was pretty surprised that nothing was wrong. She didn't really know what to say. I didn't understand her confusion until I heard that 6.8% are not pre-diabetic of worse. It's a bit shocking really.

@@diamond-anniefergus8916 there is one restaurant I eat at. My two daughters like Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Of course they do - lol. But I save and treat them and we go twice a year. The cost is expensive and everything is ala carte. But fortunately the cost is lower as one of my daughter’s who is not carnivore orders the chicken and one side. My other daughter likes steak so we split the 40 oz Tomahawk Ribeye. We all drink water. They like desert and order the cheesecake and spit It. They know it is expensive and do their part to keep the cost down. The last time was $225 plus $50 tip. (22%) we always go on a Sunday at 4pm when they open. Not crowded at all at that time.

A lot of low income people even if they even have shelter and are not homeless, have no ability to cook their own food. They may live in a room,no kitchen etc etc
That's before you address affordability and food deserts and time.Children eat rubbish at schools and childcare
There are no kitchens in schools anymore.
The days when anyone other than the wealthy can eat well are almost gone.

Can’t eat healthy food like I did 40 yrs ago. Food labels lie, and government allows food companies to lie on products that often require a dietitian or scientist to know what’s in their food.
As a child all foods were organic. In the 1960’s organic food was more affordable and processed food became popular for convenience poisoning Americans. When sellers market realized the public wanted to consume organic foods with zero to less sugar/salt they eliminated they make people pay more for less nutrition.
Food pantries are filled with empty calories and carbohydrates , weight gaining and cancer feeding starches . Thus you have obese starving Americans who eventually cost the medical industry millions, a vicious cycle just for greed of monetary lust.

I am so excited to see this great discussion! I focused on American food issues and food policy when I was doing doctoral research. I read book after book and numerous academic articles that corroborate what you talk about here. I had a glimmer of hope when Michelle Obama attempted to elevate gardening by having a White House food garden, but I was disappointed that food policy was not tackled at that time. I felt it was a missed opportunity. (And, truthfully, Mrs. Obama may have made an attempt and simply could not overcome major obstacles.) Perhaps now is the time! Senator Booker and Dr. Hyman, as you so aptly articulate, if we want to fix "healthcare" in America, which is in reality sick care, then we must fix food policy FIRST! All my hopes!

I threw the inside mushy center of a cantalope on top of dirt. Now I have say 30-50 plants. Once they sprout, keep them in the house and water frequently for a few days than put them outside in shade. Keep watering. Place them in the sun, than transplant them.

Powerful conversation about the broken food system. Senator Booker and Dr. Hyman highlight crucial issues. We need systemic change and individual action. Let's support policies that prioritize health, sustainability, and equity. This is a complex problem, but together, we can create a food system that nourishes both people and the planet.

    • @dande9981
      @dande9981 13 днів тому

@ Fluoride is added to the tapwater in most municipalities in this country. Every product made with tapwater therefore contains added fluoride. Additionally it’s added to most toothpaste. It is proven to reduce IQ in children and overexposure causes fluorosis. It is also proven to affect the pineal gland and bone health. It’s been provrn in court to be negative to health when swallowed as any benefit to tooth enamel are purely topical.

The American people also need to focus on exercising. I exercise 6 days a week since I have retired. When I was working, I went to the gym 2-3 times per week and walked on the weekend.

A good start would be to get the packaged junk food out of the school lunches. Schools just connect with local farmers for their lunches. Many parents would be willing to support this. Start the kids out with healthy habits and continue the trend at home. It is more work and a little more expensive but it’s worth it.

It ALL begins with freeing the food from corporate friendly food laws and captured food chains. You cannot buy food at the grocery store from your local farmer down the road. Stores cannot legally buy directly from a farm. Until there is an alternative or exemption for small farms to sell directly without putting food onto the chain of middlemen with corporate controlled usda processing. Return to state inspected plants that could be in local communities and let farmers use them to sell without middlemen to local stores, schools, and people. Also legalize unprocessed food, let people make their own choices.

They also used lead paint and smoking was considered healthy even for pregnant mothers. There are old propaganda films you can find on UA-cam like “the green promise” and “the original victory garden” . They weren’t organic even back then.

I dropped weight straight away , inflammation dropped, cortisol levels dropped. Thyroid levels balanced etc, my skin became vibrant and glowy… all my life i struggled and and went to every health professional and every dietician in my state and nothing worked, until I healed from past trauma too and ate just real whole foods … of if I knew it was that simple 20 years ago, my life and health would’ve been so different… but so grateful I have been given this opportunity and so grateful that you Dr Mike and senator are taking this serious 🙏🏽🙏🏽🩵🩵
