Hey! Were you in the immigration line at TPE around 15:30 on Friday? You (?) were advising someone that if they did (something wrong) they sent you back to the beginning of the line, so it seemed like you (the person I saw) knew his way around. I'm terrible with faces and I didn't think "oh, that looks like" - until you we were well past each other (I was in the next queue row behind you, so five or six minutes behind). Dang that was a long line! Anyway, thanks for this video! Very helpful! I should have watched it a second time just before the trip as I forgot about the "express train only" advice, but still, this was good!
Sorry for the late reply, great comment and feedback but went into a review category I did not see! I could have been passing through immigration at that time but I don’t recall advising anyone in a lineup. Sorry you had a long wait but glad you got a chance to watch the video. Cheers! John
Thank goodness I watched your vlogs about getting through Taipei main Station especially the part about don’t bother about the map boards but stick to the overhead signs with arrows pointing you in the direction to head! Brilliant as that’s exactly what we did once we got off after boarding the train at Hualien station. We did exactly as you described - head up and follow the signs. Found the MRT sign and followed it right to purchase our tickets to get to Songshan District. Managed to get on the right line to transfer and then got off at the right line/ stop. If I hadn’t subscribed and watched your excellent vlogs we most certainly would have gotten lost. Thanks John!!!
Nice video.. I will have 24 hours transit in Taoyan Intl Airport, i am planning to escape and stay over night in the Taipe City. I found your videos and you share the details of your journey in Taiwan. Thank you for sharing..
I’ve been watching a lot of taiwan vlogs for a about 2 wks now and yours has the BEST, most detailed vlogs EVER! Thank you so much! You are such a great help! Can’t wait to visit Taipei! I love the free photo booth btw 🤗 Is it only available at Taipei Main Station?
There is an app you can download that's like the London underground map. Its called tawian rail. And in the mall get a cool case for your travel card with a elastic on and attach to a bag . Awesome video btw
Thanks for the video I may have to take mrt to Taipei as my partner as work so this as helped a lot, return to Taipei in a week and plan to move next year!
This is super informative/helpful! I am off to Taipei in a few days and will definitely use the Airport MRT to get to Taipei Main Station. Quick question... can you buy an easy card at the card reload/ticketing kiosks?
I'm going to Taipei this November and this video is indeed helpful for me! I have read about the Easy card in Taiwan but still wonder whether the NT$ 100 for the card when people first buy it is included in the card for using purpose (of course we still have to top up more money) or when I pay NT$ 100 for the card it is just a blank card? For example: I buy an Easy card for NT$ 100 and top up NT$500, should I have NT$600 or just NT$500 to use. Because when I came to South Korea and buy a T-Money card, I had to pay an amount for a blank card and then needed to top up money to use it. Thank you!
I hope so! On the other hand, it is very easy (and not expensive) to store your luggage at the Taipei Main Station! (I remember 50 TWD per 3 hours for big luggage)
Kaspar thanks for sharing. Just a little reluctant to recommend the lockers as I’m not sure about availability especially on weekends.its a good option if people can’t leave their luggage at their hotel or it’s more convenient to leave at Taipei Main Station.
Hi John, can i ask if i’m travelling from taoyuan airport to taipei main station, should i get the easycard or purchase a single journey ticket? And which will be cheaper? Would really appreciate your reply😊
Yeah you definitely want to get an Easycard for the discount, 20%, plus the convenience. Lineups for tokens usually during rush hour and in the evening in some busy stations.
Most of the stalls are going by 6pm. If you get there before 8pm during the week it shouldn’t be too crowded. Weekends get busy after 7p. After 9p they’re usually packed to the gills most nights!
It’s possible but because express trains are reserved seats only you will have to give up your seat if someone is holding a ticket for that seat. Better to buy a ticket at the counter for express trains. Local trains do not have assigned seats so there’s no problem there.
Sorry if you’re asking about the Airport express trains then absolutely yes you can use the Easycard! I thought you were inquiring about the regular Taiwan Railways trains.
Yes but best to use it on the local trains only. You can for express trains but you’ll probably have to change your seat a lot as others will have bought a reserved ticket. Ok if you’re only going one or two stops.
Hi John! Just a clarification, is it a one train ride from airport terminal 1 to taipei main station? I’m a little bit confused if airport MRT is different from Express train to Taipei main.
Yes it’s just one train ride. There is an Express train with only 3 stops and a Commuter train with several stops. The express train only takes 36 minutes. They’re on the same platform so be sure to get on the purple striped train that says Express.
Not much difference as far as I know. Maybe Easycard works on more buses island wide? The Airport MRT closes at 12am. You can buy at MRT stations(Easycard)or convenience stores(iPass).
billl44 an easy card or iPass makes it more convenient to transfer rather than buying another token when you transfer between the airport line and Taipei MRT.
Akasha Lioncourt it was on the level where the entrance to the platform is, across from the taxi drop off-kids n ride. But I’m not sure if they are still there.
Jazzzie By Nature yes you will definitely need to exchange your currency for NT dollars. It’s actually considered an illegal transaction to except any other currency other than Taiwan dollars for any purchase or service in Taiwan.
Hi John, how do you think the new fun pass Taipei for transportation card that just been released? Is it include the Taoyuan airport MRT? I don't get much info from their site. Tq
so. i want to experience HSR from Taoyuan to Taipei. Do all HSR trains stop at its Taoyuan (off-airport) station? I know I have to take either the 705 bus or the southbound Taipei Metro.... Thanks
I believe all trains make a stop at Taoyuan station. If you are traveling during operating hours of the Airport MRT you can also travel to or from the airport using the airport MRT rather than a bus to Taoyuan station. The Airport MRT stops across from the Taoyuan HSR Station.
Probably one of the best vlogers around. No BU, and what you really wanna know. Thank you John!
Thank you my friend!!! You made my day!!!

More convenient than the bus terminal!! I know what to do when I arrive next March!!
Mark Casey yes for sure! Just remember the time it operates and hopefully your flights will work with the MRT schedule!

Wow!!! That’s so great to here!!! My goal is to have videos like this for cities all across Asia and beyond!
Nice video..
I will have 24 hours transit in Taoyan Intl Airport, i am planning to escape and stay over night in the Taipe City. I found your videos and you share the details of your journey in Taiwan. Thank you for sharing..
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you will have some time to stay in Taipei! Enjoy your stay!
But do they speak English as basic English? I don't speak chinese.. lol
Cicilia Juliyanti yes in Taipei unless you’re going to a traditional morning market you shouldn’t have a problem with basic communication.
Carmelia Cucio that’s great!!! So glad you find the blogs helpful! I’m uploading more all the time so watch out for new ones!!!

Thank you! Good advise, thanks for sharing! Couldn’t have got through 5 years without that app!
Thanks a lot. Now I won't look ignorant when i use the MRT to and from TPE airport.

Sweet!
Your video is very helpfull, thank you so much!!, subscribed
Cool! Thanks so much!!!
one advice is to save up on the 200 nt since those are kind of rare
Thank u sir. Very nice.
Thanks very much!
Thanks for such an informative video! 😀👍
You’re welcome!!!
Hi John, can I use the Fun Pass or 72 Hour Pass from or to Airport at any Metro station ? Thx
I believe the 72 hour pass would be valid for the airport MRT. Probably Fun Pass but not 100% sure.
great video John. out of interest how easy is it at Taipei main station to transit from Taiwan rail to Airport MRT...Do you know the time it takes?
Thanks very much! Do you mean from the TRA platforms? I’d say about 10-12 minutes walking max. underground through Main Station to the Airport MRT.
@@iamjohnsaboe yes from TRA.. thank you for your advice
This is super informative/helpful! I am off to Taipei in a few days and will definitely use the Airport MRT to get to Taipei Main Station. Quick question... can you buy an easy card at the card reload/ticketing kiosks?
ltrnfan you can buy a card at the station kiosks located at the platform exit/entrances.
ltrnfan thanks very much!!! Enjoy your stay!!!

Thank you!
Joong Hyun Jeong yes that’s correct! The NT$100 is just the cost of the card. NT$600 initial cost breakdown=NT$100 card fee + NT$500 value added.
John Saboe Thank you so much~
Joong Hyun Jeong you’re very welcome!!!
Awesome video. Unfortunately, town check in doesn't work (yet) for KLM.....
Kaspar thanks so much! Yes for now but hopefully with time it will be available!
I hope so! On the other hand, it is very easy (and not expensive) to store your luggage at the Taipei Main Station! (I remember 50 TWD per 3 hours for big luggage)

as of July 2017 only works for EVA

Yeah you definitely want to get an Easycard for the discount, 20%, plus the convenience. Lineups for tokens usually during rush hour and in the evening in some busy stations.
Noted, thanks alot and have a great day John😉
Where do you buy the Easycard first?
You can buy one at the MRT info desk at the entrance to the platforms
Thanks!
TX R you’re welcome!
Hey John quick question since I'm sure you know the answer what's a good time to hit night markets if I'm looking to eat but not fight crowds?
Most of the stalls are going by 6pm. If you get there before 8pm during the week it shouldn’t be too crowded. Weekends get busy after 7p. After 9p they’re usually packed to the gills most nights!
@@iamjohnsaboe thank you! I'll shoot for around 6pm :) hope you're enjoying more travel!
Thanks so much! Have a great time!!!

billl44 an easy card or iPass makes it more convenient to transfer rather than buying another token when you transfer between the airport line and Taipei MRT.
Hi john where exactly the picture booth located?thanks
Akasha Lioncourt it was on the level where the entrance to the platform is, across from the taxi drop off-kids n ride. But I’m not sure if they are still there.
Will you pass it coming out from the airport?thank you john
Akasha Lioncourt yes as you pass through the gate where you scan your MRT card. Look for kiss n ride. It was around there last.
Can we buy a ticket with USD or will we need to exchange currency first?
Jazzzie By Nature yes you will
definitely need to exchange your currency for NT dollars. It’s actually considered an illegal transaction to except any other currency other than Taiwan dollars for any purchase or service in Taiwan.

how i can move from 1terminal to 2nd
There’s a free sky train as well as a free shuttle bus outside. It’s a very short ride. You can alternatively use the MRT but it’s not free.
Oh man, you really love Taiwan, yes? HAHAHA
Let me make a guess, you are around 6'6? =P
Haha close, 6’4!!!
