Hi Chris, as an Australian born to Taiwanese parents, I applaud you for educating a lot of the mainstream world about Taiwan and Taipei. Great tips and tricks for a first time traveller who may be lost and confused with the complexity of Taiwan.
Your chinese pronouncation is very good! I appreciate the brief albeit thorough introduction about transportation. Transportation is one of the most convenient parts of Taipei, which I miss living back home is AUS.
Many people hear the drama between Taiwan and China, but don't know the marvel of the city. Thank you again Chris!

I have been to Taiwan several times. My wife is Taiwanese. This is by far the most comprehensive Taiwan/Taipei video I have seen. Hits all the highlights and really does a great job explaining things for a first time traveler. Well done. 😀

Great video and I like the way you introduced Taipei to make it very easy for those who have never been there to grasp the uniqueness and learn how to best navigate it. The spots you videoed are the exact spots I would go to every time I go home to visit my beloved hometown Taipei. As someone who was born and raised there and left almost 30 years ago to move to the U.S., I truly appreciate this video and have shared it with other Americans who are also interested in visiting Taiwan for vacation! Keep up the great work!

I’ve had so many people tell me there’s nothing to do in Taipei and that I need to get outside the city. They say the same about Bangkok (where I live) too, so I take it with a grain of salt. Great to hear from someone who loves the city.

4:09 The person walking behind you waved at your camera, lol.
The hospitality in Taiwan is beyond my expectation, in most big cities, people are less friendly, but it was not the case in Taiwan, they're generally want to help you.
I've been there 4 months ago, and I wish to go again this year, the food, the people, it's the nicest place to visit on a budget.
I rented a car, driving in rural Taiwan is really fun but not so in Taipei, people drive like maniac, lol, but well, compare to Thailand, it's maybe is less challenging, Thai traffic is much more chaotic but slower, while Taipei traffic is pretty organized chaos, everyone move so fast it's scary.

I was just in Taipei for four days as a stopover from a weeklong trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on my way back to Chicago. I really enjoyed the city and would be more than happy to go there again. Very interesting. Totally different from Saigon, of course, and kind of like I remember Tokyo from the early '90s when I was there twice, with a little bit of NYC even thrown in. I've not been to most of the other big Asian cities like Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul or Shanghai -- but your point that Taipei is well taken that it is definitely worth visiting if you have a chance. That said, I only missed the earthquake by less than three weeks...and admittedly was not in Hualien where it hit so hard. Thanks for your videos on Taipei. I watched a couple of them before going there, but honestly just found myself walking and wandering everywhere I could to explore. Plus, I'm an avid tennis player and spent a couple of afternoons scoping out places to pick up a game -- and found the Taiwanese players really open and welcoming to let me join in with them. (It doesn't hurt that I'm an accomplished player, so I'm able to step in with just about any level and get a good game.)

    Great video!
    Three notes:
    (1) For the Shilin night market, don't go to Shilin MRT station, as the closest station is actually Jiantan station, one station south of Shilin station.
    (2) I'd actually recommend staying at a hotel that's near a station on the Red MRT line (not the Blue). It will take you to more tourist attractions. The area south of Main Station has a lot of hotels, but isn't very attractive. North of the station around Zhongshan station is a nice area, or around Dongmen, Da'an Park, or Da'an station.
    (3) I'd definitely recommend using those YouBikes, even in the city. Biking is pretty safe, especially since you can ride on the sidewalks (pedestrians have right of way though, so pay attention). Biking through Taipei is great, especially if get off the big streets and onto the smaller ones.

Are the areas of interests I mentioned doable in that short amount of time?
