  • This is the tree trunk from my portfolio. I walk you through the graph, node by node. The color part is not covered in this video but I added it as bonus here: • Quick bonus: Stylized ...

Wow. My first ever Substance Designer project was following along to this. It was really fun and I feel like I learnt a lot. Would appreciate more videos like these. All the nodes aund the reasons why to use these specifically were explained really well, thank you for the tutorial!

wish this was an actual like tutorial of you making it rather than going through the insane set up i can't keep up with, trying to explain to me what is what, i personally learn a lot more seeing people build things because i see how it affects a mesh and what the person goes through, changing things etc, this is like a finish product being explained and i can't really follow and it's 34 minutes long :[ either ways this looks really really freaking good, props to you bro, i am actually amazed

Thanks man! I totally agree with you, that's why I don't do this kind of walkthrough anymore. I prefer to build a new graph. It's easier to follow along. Same when I watch a tutorial. It's more interesting when the teacher shows everything.

Really good video. Love that you explain what everything does instead of just pointing out what values to use.

To optimize the graph more where you create the cut off branches we can use a transform 2d instead of 2 shapes to subtract from eachother :)

    Hey there,
and first of great tutorial! It's the first one of your videos that I've watched so far, and I really enjoyed it.
    Just 3. things I noticed:
    1. You could minimize the "ATTRIBUTES" tab (node properties). That would make it easier to see the node parameters, and follow along while you are explaining, especially for "short" nodes like Blurs/Histogram Scans. That could also save you a few seconds listing them.
    2. You started skipping quite a few nodes and/or their linked nodes at around min 27. Since the node names are still quite blury at the highest video quality (atleast for me) it was quite a pain to rewind the video more than a dozen times to find out which nodes you skipped and where they originated from, which bring me to my last annotation ...
    3. When you started skipping nodes as well as their origins, I had to rewatch those parts nad got really lost a couple of times since your node network seems quite messy ._.' I'm sure you can navigate between your nodes without any problem, but as an outsider I got really confused/lost a few times.
Still, I really enjoyed your video, keep up the good work!

      Hi there!
Thanks for your suggestions. I like the tip about minimizing the attributes tab. A good one! As for points 2 and 3, that's why I'll try more and more to show you graphs building from scratch. Much easier to follow I think. Welcome to the channel!
