I highly recommend to download and read the service manual. There is a good description how you remove the bottom cover without damaging the center clips. Once everything is loosened you have to push the bottom cover towards the screen hinges. Whey you put the cover back start with the two captive screws and push everything cautiously to where it was.
Good review. To add some, I had the Ryzen 5500U model for a month.
1. Zen 2 CPU still good for modern laptops. Geekbench 5: 1106 5038, Cinebench R23: 1065 4925
2. GPU 3DMark Time Spy score of 1006. OK for gaming at 720p low/medium settings
3. Battery life also decent, 6 hours of coding, 6-7 hours light work
4. Display just average as expected, I measured it at 214 nits, 60% sRGB, black level 0.178 nits, contrast ratio 1202:1 (good for IPS), color temp 6908K, Delta E average 6.6, max 23.45. Default's blue & green noticably off. Calibration improved Delta E average to 0.64, max 2.07
5. No problem charging from 65 watt USB-PD charger, I use Vention Type-C USB/charging/HDMI hub with no issue
6. Added another 8 GB RAM for total 16 GB
7. There's no space for a second NVME / SATA SSD, it's occupied by battery
8. Grey/silver tone looks good. I hope the aluminium top cover & keyboard palmrest will last long
9. Free MS Office Home/Student 2019 & McAfee antivirus - 1 year subscription for 3 devices

Finding laptops with upgradeable RAM seems quite difficult these days. Lots of manufacturers just solder the chips to the motherboard. Which is fine if they ship it with 32GB , but not if it only comes with 4 to 8 GB !

I would like to ask for your opinion as I'm contemplating whether to buy the Dell Inspiron 14 5415 (Ryzen 5 5500U, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD) or the Asus Vivobook 14 (i5 1135g7, 8gb RAM, 512 SSD). I'll be using the laptop for school purposes only (Microsoft Office, Zoom, Browser, Netflix and *possibly* photoshop or a video editing software).
I also consider these two other because they are on the same price range as the two above: the Acer Aspire 5 and Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3i (both i5 and 8gb ram /512gb ssd, I think, since these are the only available in the mall here).
Among the four (inspiron, vivobook, aspire, ideapad), which do you recommend I purchase?

Hi, the difference will be in the CPU power you are getting and battery life. As the Ryzen 7 has more power in terms of processing it also takes up more battery. If you do go with ryzen 7 or 5 I would recommend upgrading the ram to at least 16gb to get dual channel instead of the stock 8gb. Cheers!

Hello, can this laptop run autocad and other engineering software? I am an electrical engineer and i'm wondering if this laptop can handle those softwares? Can it last for 4+ years?
This version run sustain 15 watt or 28watt (like some Lenovo version)?
Just stress test the CPU and look at HWinfo64 after 5-10min, it should peak at 30watt initial burst, then settle down a bit when chip gets hot,

Hi there sorry for the late reply. I will say the Dell is better as I did have some hands on experience with it and its been running with no issues. I did have a friend with a Lenovo laptop and had issues with the battery after 1 .5 years

Evening, the laptop brightness is indeed 250 nits and is alright as long as its not under direct sun light. To me its does not feel tick as the lower chassis is curved smoothly. Cheers!

Hi, I also bought a Dell Inspiron 5000 series recently. I feel that display has a warm tone as compared to other laptops or monitors that I have from Dell. So, the whites on screen are warm white (yellow tint). Do you also have same issue with your unit? Trying to confirm if it's a general issue with all the displays in this line or something particular with my unit.

Hi sorry for the late reply. I will day get the Dell as the 5000 service processors are much better than the 4000 version in terms of performance and power efficacy. But do upgrade the ram on the dell unit as 8GB and single-channel does not help in performance. Cheers!

One age old question I have ! I need serious help , I'm buying a new laptop , the dell Inspiron 14 in particular , and my old laptop has a detachable battery , I used to never detach it and keep the cable plugged in Everytime I use it. So probably it overheated it and now the battery life without a cable plug-in sucks.
So my question is with modern screwed in batteries , should we use it like phones , once near full , unplug it and use until its about to die , or keep it plugged in whenever possible ?
Hi, in my experience get a device with screw in batteries as if it swells out it will be easy to replace. In most modern laptops you can set the charging profile for the battery for either fast charge or primarily AC use (plugged in) to prevent the battery getting damaged from being always on the charger all the time. Hey there sorry for the late response. It uses 512mb of ram from the 8gb that comes stock. I am trying to find a way to increase that buffer. There is a built in battery app by dell for you to check the current status of the battery health. Cheers!

Hi there, I just got this laptop aswell as noticed that you cannot change the amount that is used for graphics memory so it is stuck at 512mb of vram which isnt enough for even lighter titles.
Have you found a way to get around this issue or are you also stuck with the same problem?
I have tryed in the BIOS and AMD video drivers. I will suggest waiting to see if they unlock it. Cheers!

@@ishantaryan1258 unfortunately the issue hasn't been fixed but it can still run lighters titles well. Don't expect medium to high requirement games to run though. It is plenty fast for day to day tasks though

The I7 1165g7 has sightly better single core however in muti core the 5700u beats it. Not sure abt power efficiency but that's also another factor to consider and from other reviews and my experience it's more efficient. Cheers

Hmm if you do need grafix power I would suggest a laptop with a decent GPU something like the Lenovo Legon 5 AMD is not bad with their RTX GPUS upgradability is great for that but hard to dissamble from my previous expreance. You can try dells gaming line with their AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU mixed together in their gaming line up. Cheers!

@@vickyst8000 in that case this Dell laptop would be an Ideal choice however I would recommend getting 16gb of ram you can DIY that. I will choose this over the mac as its upgradable and if anything happened you can alwase take out your drive to retrieve data.
However if you are already integrated into the apple ecosystem like Iphone, apple watch and Ipad then go with the mac to have a better integration. Cheers!

Hey man for your studying what type of programs will you use? If its mostly CPU based then I would suggest the 5700u that has a higher processing power. If you need more for battery life then get the lower power hungary 5500u. Cheers!

@@swishbang4219 Hi there based on applications requirements on google they don't really use much of the GPU only MATLAB would use 1gb of vram for the recommend specs. I will say this laptop would be fine aslong as you get the ram upgrade. OR if you wanna play safe you can get the INTEL version of this laptop with an MX 450 that I reviewed just recently. Cheers.

The 2 clips you mentioned that might break scares me. I want to upgrade the RAM soon and I had a bad experience opening my HP laptop previously as the plastic case broke down easily
Hi the thing is the clips don't really matter as its held in via screws. For my laptop it did not make any difference as to how the back cover closes. Cheers

Yep, you can hence they often only come with 8GB of ram. As long as you don't damage it's fine.

Hey, I would go with Dell cause I know of their upgrablity and personally in the past I did not have too good of an encounter with Acer laptops that had MB issues and weird randome cases of being unable to turn on. Cheers!
Anyone tried to upgrade the SSD? It beeps very loudly if on shutdown after I upgraded to a Team Group 1TB SSD.

@@Nwhproductions - fresh install on a brand new ssd. It's a bug. It happens when you reboot windows - the ssd is not detected. But if you do a shutdown then startup - no issues. Not sure if it's specific to Team MP34 1TB and this laptop.

I just got it yesterday and as soon as I open the lid it starts...i don't even have to press power button?Is it the case with you also.........and I have checked I do not put it in sleep mode
Hi you can turn it off in the bios. When you first turn on the laptop before the dell logo press f2. In this blue menu look for turn laptop on when screen is lifted ( should be something like this)

Best way to clean it is to remove the bottom cover and clean the heatsink and fans. Prob once a year depending on how dusty ya place is. Cheers!

hi are you talking abt the new 2021 mac book air with the m1 chip? Comapred to this the Dell give you more upgradability that is something apple does not give to you. Yes the build quality is not the same as a mac as that's what macs are know for. However if you are already deeply in the mac ecosystem like Iphone, apple watch, Ipad pro etc then I will suggest the mac book air. Cheers!

Hi there i typically use either Samsung, Patriot, SandDisk or Toshiba for my ssds. For Ram I go with the bigger brands out there like sk hynix. Cheers!

Hi you should be able to as on dell's page it's says it for dp and power delivery. The other Inspiron 14 I reviewed has type c charging hence this should have it too. Cheers
Use a genuine 65w cable and 65w pd adapter. I use a Choetech 100W PD + Bavin 100W PD USB C cable with a UGreen Hub.
No IPS :(
I was initially very happy with this device but after only just over two years the display failed. I've never seen a display damage on its own, and then on a laptop that was always open and never moved. Dell wants 357€ for the repair or 180€ just for the display. In my opinion, this is far too much for a device that originally cost less than 500€ new. I won't be buying a Dell a second time - what a pity.

The display is too bright/washed out colours. White color is very dominant and hides color. It looks like a newspaper which was under the bright sun and got washed out. I got it 1 week ago and I am not that satisfied by the display.
