Cool to see HP bringing the Aero name back. In the mid-90s, Compaq debuted a collection of "ultrabooks" called the Compaq Aero which was small and light, but struggled running Win95 and Win98. Hope the rebirth of the name works out this time.

    • @RCfromtheNYC

@@scottgould6590 Correct. They ran as their own company until 2002 when they merged/got bought out by HP. The name brand was discontinued in 2013 in the US but was licensed out to some tech companies in Asia.

Just a little feedback that will likely get lost in the comments; Love the channel and appreciate your 'standard' approach and methodology you try to stick to in order to keep reviews similar to one another; But Web Browsing and 4K playback on an R7 5800 could probably be left out. I have to imagine the typical buyer looking at spending money on something like this would be better served with some more intense tasks being reviewed. If you really feel there is a small demographic of people concerned with web browsing capability on a 5800U just briefly mention it does it with ease. 2 minutes of an 11 minute video is overkill for something so common sense. Keep up the good work and congrats on the sponsor!

Watching this on a laptop i picked up from the Micro Center platinum collection!
Figured $899 for an i7-11800H, 16GB 3200 Mhz, 144Hz FHD 15.6", 512GB NVMe SSD, and 3050 ti was a heck of a deal and bought it on the spot haha

Thank you so much for including the 4K video playback section! This will be super important for me while considering a gaming laptop when I can game by dGPU and watch UA-cam by iGPU. I'm leaning towards Ryzen given that Tiger Lake-H45's iGPU is probably anaemic for such multitasking.

Perhaps I just bought an HP during a poor time in the history of Windows and driver support, but I had an HP laptop in the early 2000s that was stuck on XP. Even though the hardware was sufficiently fast IMHO, between HP, AMD (CPU & iGPU), and Windows, there wasn't any driver support for anything post-XP on it. Crap on Vista if you feel like it, but I had no 3D acceleration if I upgraded, and gaming on the go was my primary use for that laptop, so that has soured me since then on any HP device. That, and the crap they've pulled with their printers over the years, especially regarding driver support on consumer product lines.

i was struggling between this (512gb version) and the vivobook s14 (i5 1135 16 DC +512), i bought the asus at the end, HP felt cheap (even though i love the form factor) and couldn't find many reviews on it... i have a ps5 so i was not interested on playing AAA games on it but i m pleasant surprised by the performances on PC games (especially in Laptop mode though, when linked to the TV i either have to drop the details/res or the fps go down the drain...i know it is normal but i didnt expect it), i was playing Dead Rising 3 at really high whatever is called settings at 30fps,gow (the first, not remastered) at 60fps max res max settings, curse of the gods at high settings etc... maybe an i7 would have been better i dont know but whatever i m still surprised. Not much luck on the emulation part though, PS2 OK most of the time i can run at 60 etc, but PS3 not really ... not a deal breaker to me cause i had a ps2 and 3 and played most of the games i was interested in back in the days anyway.
ND: i did buy the laptop for gaming, gaming was just a plus, but definitely not my reason to buy a new laptop

Hey +ETA PRIME - I've a "request" about something you showed in one of your videos with that USB-C - HDMI adapter.
Since many should have an older smartphone laying around like the one in your video with that Essential Phone PH1, it would be a shame not to give it a second life as a Mini PC or FireTV replacement, wouldn't it?! But I wonder if certain things can work:
    1. What output can I await? Some phones from 2017 do have 1440p, like my old HTC U11. But is also 4K possible? Do you know of a setting to change that? Does HDMI out over USB-C even support 2.5K or 4K?
    2. Can I "force" HDMI out, maybe via a PC connect. When I take a look on Ebay, many elder phones have a broken screen so that going into settings and turning something on might not be as easy.
    3. Do you know some kind of remote if I want to use that old phone like a fireTV or androidTV and not always want to use a XBox Controller?
    4. Can I turn the screen on the phone off without turning HDMI out off?
    5. What apps can I use for a "androidTV" experience and what emulator would be suitable for a TV-scenario.
(6.) I know you like Samsung Dex. But maybe you know a UI or even an android ROM that is going into a similar direction? I mean these Smartphones with an SD821, 835 or newer are more powerful than a raspberry Pi 4, aren't they? And before I build an SBC with a small case and stuff, maybe these older phones are good enough for that, too!
I really think that this kind of usage is kind of "environmentally friendly" since many people would not have to buy a fireTV 4K or something. And many of those device have android 8 or newer, widevine level 1 and can definitely play 4K content. So even with a cracked screen and an old battery they could be used for some XBox Cloud gaming, emulation, Netflix video....
Maybe this could be worth another video or a "mini series" with that videos you already have done.
Greetings from Germany "und auf Wiedersehen!" =)
