HAHA totally! Fortunately I figured out early on to spend the majority of my collected nav data on loads of the drop pod exosuit upgrade star charts from cartogrophers. Whenever I'm not actively engaged in something and I'm on a decent planet, I'll just farm pod after pod. Only up to 70-something inventory slots and 20 or so tech slots so far, but it's made the early game soooooo much easier tbh!!! You can easily add a whole row or two in relatively little time

One tip that really helped me is to stock up on scanner upgrades. Two to three scanner upgrades (preferably class S) and every scanned fauna, flora or mineral will make much more unit. I get around 300.000 unit per animal scanned depending how rare it is. It's ridiculous because every planet is basically another million. The upgrades can be bought at station vendors for nanite but they will not always have S-class scanner upgrades. Just keep looking around.

Around the 8:15 mark you mention that Chromatic material is very useful and valuable. That's the understatement of the century, it's one of the most obnoxious things to keep producing. BUT, here's my trick I really wish I knew when I started (and/or remembered when I start playing again) :
Copper is not the only source of Chromatic you can use. In fact, it's the worst one. The *moment* you have the ability to do so, get yourself a Cadmium drive, go to a red system, grab yourself some Cadmium. Stick *that* into a refiner and suddenly you have a lot more Chromatic! Even better, keep some cadmium, make an Emeril drive, get some Emeril, make even MORE Chromatic. And obviously, you guessed it, the Indium drive gets you Indium which provides something like (from memory, I might be wrong) 2x or 3x Chromatic as you have Indium. Small mining beam on an indium patch and you definitely won't be wanting for Chromatic anytime soon.
Bonus tip: Apparently, the Indium drive can also replace both Cadmium and Emeril drive so you can just keep the Indium and recycle the other ones. Yay!

Getting more inventory or technology slots is one of the main goals early game. I would always load up on technology first to get your Exosuit fit for purpose. It's worth mentioning that the first time you go to any space station you will be able to get one slot added to your Exosuit, assuming you can afford it. You can also buy maps at the cartographer to find pods on planets that will also give you one slot each.

@@kevinseven6633 to add to this: when I start a new game I quickly start finding the save beacons with the starship scanner and using every single save beacon to get the navigational data so I can purchase as many exo suit drop pod maps as I can. Each map costs 3 nav data. While you’re doing that collect the ingredients to make an anti matter housing and carbon nano tubes as 1 each is needed to repair the drop pods along with 10 sodium nitrate so collect that also or put sodium in your refiner. If you craft 5 anti matter housings, 5 carbon nano tubes, 50 sodium nitrate, 15 nav data and use it to buy 5 exosuit drop pod maps then you have everything you need to go on a drop pod run and quickly get 5 slots! For the Trade Terminals, a lot of players miss that you can change inventories when you are selling. So you don't have to unload stuff from your ship to take to the terminal but can sell from there as well! This is also the case when donating things to the Guilds. You can switch inventories, since the items you want to donate may be stored there!
At the Multitool terminal in the Anomaly, it will be different in every system! This is a great way to hunt for different multitools!

Also, if you have augments you can build, they often are another bonus you can add to the base tech without needing to get rid of the 6 upgrades you've done through the mentioned ones above. I think my current jetpack on my main save has a grand total of 8 augments (2 I made and 3 S class and 3 suspicious) on it. I can climb most mountains with very little pausing to refill the jetpack. ^_^

Thanks for the great tips. Really nice they added the option of the auto target follow in flight, but if you do fancy having some fun working on manual targeting skills, there's a few things that can really help. Maybe the first would be, as the game guide suggests, using reverse thrust to turn faster and help stay on target and keep from losing them as they fly straight by you. 2. You can use your camera joystick to keep your view on the enemy even if you can't turn your ship fast enough to track them, you can usually keep your camera on them and then line them up. 3. if in 1st person view, the holo HUD in your cockpit actually works and works quiet well - didn't notice this for probably dozens or 100hrs +. You can track enemy fighters' position around you even if they're out of view and keep chasing their dot till it's lined up horizontally and vertically in front of you. 4. lead indicator/reticle - while the target assist is decently generous in this game, you do need to lead your shots sometimes or they will miss. There is a little white lead reticle in front of enemy fighters showing where to target when they're flying fast to the side. It can be kinda hard to notice escpecially if you didn't know to look for it. Your target reticle will light up red to know you have a good bead on them.
Anyway it can take a while, but I've found it very fun and rewarding to be able to kick ass with your own skill.

    1. Your inventory is not actually almost fully expanded, you have a lot more to go. And you can sometimes find the drop pod charts for sale and are definitely worth the units to buy them.
    2. Having a black market mod is similar to a regular mod and you can actually sorta gauge how good it is by how much its worth (before you install it) a 700 or so nanite value should be equal to an S class
    3. You can unlock blueprints for teleporters and build them at any / all of your own bases and wont need to get to a space station every time.
    4. Salvaged data is very useful to unlock blueprints however once you have a good amount of blueprints you can throw salvaged data in a refiner of any kind and get nanites.
    5. Any slime you find can actually be thrown into a refiner so if you find a container with slime that needs to be removed so you can access it you can actually take it because it has refining value.
    6. Make sure you are checking your "tech" inventory slots on characters/ tool/ ship and so on for overloaded slots as they will greatly increase the strength of a mod placed in that spot but not every mod benefits.
    7. Nanites are a very scarce resource early on so dont spend them willy nilly or you may regret it.
    8. Its absolutely worth getting mining laser upgrades from the anomaly to get more resources each time you mine something.
I would love to stumble across you sometimes because i can give you some stuff WAY more valuable than poo. Been fun to see you stomping around though 😅

Blast trees, animals, rocks, crystals. Wipe out whole areas fast and all the resources are added. 2. I don’t understand it entirely, but after you scan an item and get your units, you can then upload the info and get Nanites. There’s little up arrows next to everything you’ve scanned and haven’t uploaded. I don’t know why or if this is good to do, but it got me a lot of Nanites pretty quickly. One of the best ways to earn units early game is to set up some trade routes between the various types of system e.g Advanced Materials -> Scientific -> Trading. Buy the discounted stuff at a space station trade terminal (negative percentage cost) in an AM system, sell it in a Sci system (where it has an inflated price) - buy discounted stuff in the Sci system and sell it in a Trade system - buy discounted stuff in the Trade system and sell it in the AM system. You will have to wait another 24hr or so, after completing the loop, for the trade terminal prices to stabilise again - then just rinse and repeat.
I made tens of millions in a few trade loops over a few play sessions. Plenty of downloadable guides on the interwebs that explain it all much better than I ever could.

I’ve found that if you walk far enough away from the runaway mold, it’ll reset too. I wanna say it’s about 600u away, but can’t remember for sure. That’s actually beyond your base limits, but if you go to the edge of your base limit, put down a small floor panel as far as it’ll let you, it’ll add an additional 50u to your base limits in that area. I typically set my base 600u away from the mold, and use the floor panel technique to extend to the mold, then run a series of short range teleporters (has to be a series since one won’t go far enough) between the runaway mold and my base where I put a bunch of large refiners. Land at base, short range teleport to mold, collect, teleport back to base, plug into refiners, rinse, repeat. That way, you don’t have to deal with the larger teleporter loading screens I had to watch a tutorial or two on it, but once I got it working, it works well and is a quick way to collect. I also suggest building a wall around the mold especially if it’s on a hill so it doesn’t run TOO far away ☺️

Also use your ship to gather resources. Its just as efficient and its faster.

A comment on the tech upgrades for multi-tool, ship, and exosuit modules - you can have a max of 3 upgrades per base equipment module (in this case, the scatter blaster). Rather than immediately storing the upgrade that was a little worse, go ahead and leave that one there until you find a better one to replace it. Granted, if you're starved for tech slots, it's perfectly reasonable to free up space. But in any other case, even a little bonus is better than none until you can find a superior upgrade.

If you like exploring use the drop pods. I may still have a base by a minor settlement that has a drop pod at the bottom of the steps going up to the base. I took my exocraft with an upgraded scanner and found a whole bunch of drop pods around the base. I used to also use the Minotaur with the upgraded scanner to find crashed ships on land and the Nautilon to find them underwater.

Exosuit and starship expansions are the more simple to do, in this game you get plagued with navigation data items, you exchange them in spacial stations for planetary charts of distress beacons to find starships crashes to salvage, in an opulent economy solar system is more easy to find grade A and S starships to salvage to keep or sell in ship parts. For the exosuit you exchange the navigation data for exosuit upgrade charts, then go to planets and search for the expandion to update the cargo or the technology slots.

One tip i have is that in really early game, by far the easiest way to get money fast is to farm Storm Crystals. Extreme planets can seem daunting but you can just wait in your ship for a storm to hit, then just fly around looking for clusters of 3-5 storm crystals, even just a single bundle of 10 will net you 1-2 mil, so just 30 minutes or so of farming can get you 10s of millions of credits

Not seen if anyone has mentioned this but you can have up to 3 additional tech augments PER main tech object, so your removing scanner augments when adding another is pointless. You should get up to the maximum of three augments per tech and only then replace existing augments with better ones. BTW these 3 augments are in addition to any CRAFTED augments you've acquired blueprints for which add to the functionality of the main tech and which you craft by selecting an empty tech space and building from there. You should also place the tech and augments in a square formation if possible as they then support each other in the most efficient way, and look out for the best use of supercharged slots. The point about installing additional exosuit TECH spaces (as opposed to cargo) is an important one and one which most people miss when new to the game (I did and am now 900+ hrs in). Also try to get as many additional Multi-tool tech slots as possible so you can augment your scanner as quickly as possible to increase your units per scan. An Advanced Mining Laser is an essential early on. BTW the Combat Scope is not that useful early on with low power weapons. A Personal Forcefield might be a better choice with limited nanites available. Good luck with your journey.

I Thought, just like him, that I only had to get a few more to max my cargo space. When I had finally unlocked that last slot I was relieved beyond measure. Then I went to my next new station and wanted to now get more Tech slots, and then it scrolled down to show that same flashing upgrade slot. I lost it, I now was both happy there was more slots and despaired at how many more I needed to finally actually finish it.

There is a way to duplicate items using 2 refiners. Place your refiner on the ground then add what you want to duplicate to the input space. Create and place another refiner on top of the first one and leave it empty. Then hold R3 to pickle them both up and it will double your items. Salvage data and exo suit upgrades can be duplicated for a boat load of units.

not just 2 refiners. I only dupe on things like expedition saves or saves I play for a few hours and delete. The latest expedition save I bought a freighter after my first warp in a dissonant system. I found a nexus mission that gave me a salvaged frigate module. Then I used 5 refiners at once to get enough to unlock the matter beam. I'm deleting all of my expedition saves.

The scale of no man's sky is very impressive. I haven't been in gaming very long, but i can't think of a triple A studio that has accomplished anything close to what hello games have done with nms. The game play is fun. Being able to tunnel through a planet and build a base underground is pretty cool. The space combat is okay, and the planet combat isn't bad, but it's not great. The game is mostly a crafting game with alot of other elements . Im hooked on this game at the moment

If you are farming the new Brood Mother enemy from the latest expedition for the various bug helmet drops you can break her AI completely by shooting her with a paralysis mortar while she is still emerging from the ground. She'll then never complete the emerge animation and just sit there doing nothing while you kill her.

Dude!! Your video is amazing. I turned on multiplayer because I wasn't sure. I learned about grouping stuff in tech slots and sit at the hub while figuring it out and super slots that still I don't know if it effects some thing and drinking coffee. I tabbed to inventory and someone dropped off 2 stacks worth 750k each. I went from 3.7k to 4.7 k. I was thrilled to have 3.7k and now 4.7K. I didn't want to upgrade me Tier C Freighter and it's also butt ugly. Same with my little Starter Starfighter. I went back to figuring stuff out and drinking coffee. I checked my inventory and someone dropped off a few stacks worth 360 million units! Now to find a good freighter and starship way quicker than I expected. Love this game, but kind feel bad I won't have to work my way up, but I'll not really lol. Was at about 500, 000,000 by the time I got up to leave!

Watch out for the people luring players to a 'base', coercing them to save their game, then trapping inside and turning up the thermostat. Once you try to leave, you're teleported to a dungeon you can't mine out of.
The only fix without deleting your save is to have a friend invite you to a different multiplayer server and saving once you arrive.
