Well done to the Auckland Zoo for doing the right thing to get her back to being with other elephants. It is hard letting go, but as elephants are social creatures, she deserves this. It is a shame we couldn't have a herd here in NZ.

It seems the very best outcome for a magnificent elephant who has had the most tender care from caring humans.

They are such amazing intelligent herd animals, you have been her herd and it is so very good of you to understand that she needs a herd of other elephants to become her total and true self.

What a sweet Ellie, hoping our Perth girls will be joining her very soon to start the process of an integrated herd. Good luck, it is the right thing to bring them together at Monarto, the facilities are looking great. They will all enjoy the rangeland and dams / waterholes provided in summer, nothing better than a nice soak on a hot day.

Thank you to the team at Auckland Zoo whom managed and cared for Burma. And to her keepers that still do we paid a visit just to see Burma prior to her departure. We had tears of sadness and joy that she was leaving but will be with companions of her own kind. Hugs to the staff here in Auckland and thank you to Adelaide to put this amazing program together.💚

Bittersweet ❤️😥 It's really sad to see beautiful, sweet Burma leave us, however it's for HER best interests. Elephants need elephants - they need to be part of a herd to be happy & fulfilled. I'm grateful to Auckland Zoo for doing such a great job in preparing Burma for this big, life-changing transition. I'm sure she will thrive in her new environment with her new family/herd. Looking forward to updates! Best wishes Burma! xxx🥰🙏❤️🐘

It is nice to see that more and more elephants are being released from zoos. It is regrettable though that elephant Burman has been living alone in Auckland Zoo for more than two years after her buddy Anjalee had moved to Sydney to be part of a breeding program. After Anjalee's departure, it was known that Burma would only be left behind so the question is why did she have to stand alone for two years. But it is good and healthy for her that she now ends up with animals of her own kind and that the move went well. It is also nice to hear that Auckland Zoo is working on elephant conservation in Sri Lanka. I adopted two elephants in Sri Lanka. Thank you, Auckland Zoo, for letting this elephant go. Let us hope that elephant Anjalee and her new herd will be set free as well in the near future. ❤🐘🙏

It is extremely evident how much Beautiful Dame Burma is deeply treasured and loved by her keepers at Auckland Zoo as well as all the visitors who love her (I’m in the states & have never met this amazing lady & she’s captured my heart from afar)I so appreciate the fact that even though without a doubt she’ll be missed by you guys & it’s incredibly hard to let her go,your team has always kept her best interest as the top priority while she’s been there & moving her to the safari park is further evidence that her wellbeing comes first even as she takes pieces of your hearts with her on her journey. I am so grateful for your teams true commitment to not just Burma but all the animals you look after,it’ll be wonderful to see her get to form new bonds with other elephants after such a long time family, weather it’s other elephants or their humans,is everything to these wonderful gentle giants. I was definitely tearing up watching Andrew fight back tears he clearly loves his favorite girl so much & even though this is the best opportunity for Burma that doesn’t mean it’s easy & more than a little heartbreaking thank you for giving this Queen the very best of everything over the decades she’s spent at the zoo sending big hugs to all of you.🐘🩷☀️🤗🥹🌻

Such a beautiful story. Im in the Adelaide hills and many people avoided her route to Monarto on her move day as you requested :D Such an honor to have her and she will be so loved here as well. How do you know if she will get along with her new herd? Do you have to chose particular personalities/sexes/ages etc? What goes into deciding who her new elephant family will be?

Monarto Safari Park is about an hour out of Adelaide. It’s the largest safari park outside of Africa.
Burma will be very happy there. She will have several acres to roam free and will be getting other elephants for company from Western Australia.
She is still in quarantine but has settled in well.

Literally losing an OG from this Generation💔.
I’ve kinda wondered, why Burma couldn’t go to where Anjalee was.
Like, you can imagine Anjalee with the other Elephants curious about who the new elephant is, then she finds out it’s Burma, then they reunite.
But I understand, that probably couldn’t really happen, cause moving an elephant costs a lot of money etc.
    But, maybe in another life🐘💙
