Amazing video. Hoping my 86 comes in soon. Will be running 18x9.5 rpf1s as well and want to try a brembo swap. Nice to see 7mm spacer clears with no fender work. I'm assuming I need adj top hats to get -3.5 up front. Looks like I should consider some rear fender trimming to be safe
Coilovers with camber plates to get that -3.5 up front. If you’re running a wide 255 and go lower than my car, then yes you might want to trim the rears.
If im only doing 8.5 or 9 inch wide with say 245 tires, do I need coilovers with camber plates. Was looking at the ST XA coilovers and they dont have camber plates
Probably a really silly question. What is the benefit of larger wheels for your enkeis and gram lights over the smaller apex wheels? Why not have all 17s? Wouldn't they be lighter?
@@phelpsgarage4202 yeah 05 is my garage queen. Daily a GR86 now. Just don’t want to use spacers, or cut the car to add some wheels. Just looking for some basic RPF1s with slightly more aggressive summer tires.
@@phelpsgarage4202 I should add I have watched a ton of UA-cam videos for GR’s and it seems most owners really like to push the sizes to the max and lower the car. I have no current desire to lower the car as I drive it year round in winter etc.
So im currently completely stock no coils no control arms. Question is would 18x9.5 fit with 225 tire size? I had a couple tire shops say it wont fit without me upgrading studs and spacers.
It would be too close for comfort and yes, I would probably add a spacer and a 225 is a bit of a stretch. It will probably poke without lowering it and adding some negative camber.
Everywhere I look at people running 18x9.5 +38s they have at least coils/arms and sometimes even trimming/rolling if they want 255/40s. Do you think it's possible to make this fit with only lowering springs, camber bolts, and spacers (if needed) or will the rear be too much of an issue without the extra adjustability of coils/arms? Would appreciate any advice. Maybe what I want simply isn't feasible.
I don’t have much experience running that much tire on the stock suspension. I know when I did some test fitting, It was way too close for comfort and they poked really bad without camber. So it might be possible but not ideal. Maybe run a 245/35/18..
@@phelpsgarage4202 From my research, it looks like lowering springs give you about 2 degrees of natural camber in the rear and with camber bolts you can get up to 2.5-3ish in the front. I couldn't find any examples of people running smaller tires on this wheel size with a stock suspension either. Maybe an 8.5 width wheel is the way to go if I don't want to rebuild my entire suspension. Thanks for the reply.
@ i just installed bc coil overs and noticed a lot of camber only in the driver front tire so i was gonna get it aligned , do you think f -1.5 and r -1.0 is good for street use
I have a Raven gr86 and those apex wheels look SO good on it I’m jealous. Question tho, why the rear ride height slightly higher than the front? I’m trying to figure out how to ideally setup the ride height for my Ohlins coilovers
Probably gonna lift the front a tad once the splitter is here. You want about a half inch higher in the rear I’m told by suspension companies plus it works better with aero to have it slightly raked.
this is a very special fitment. I can not found this size enkei rpf1, 9.5j 18 inch 5x100,usually their pcd is 114.3 or 112,but gr86 and brz should be 100, where did you get these wheels?

Great vid mang! That Rays/Hoosier setup is baller. Had no idea they ran that wide😮

I like how the 18s feel and respond over 17s. That extra side wall makes the 17s feel a tad bit lazy on track in my opinion.
I just want some wheels to go on my stock car without spacers, rolling, cutting. I wish this wasn't so difficult.
You can just don’t go with 9.5 wide on stock suspension. You own a evo?

I run 225/40 on 9.5 no issues. But it is quite a bit of stretch. Run 41 psi havnt ran into any concerns.
What weel size should i go because i dont want to cut, role or lower the car because it snows where i live
I use 9.5 wide wheels so I can get the most grip when on track. So maybe you can go 8.5 wide and not have to worry about anything.

Do you have to change coilovers if you go with a little wider rim/tire ? Or will it be fine on stock

Yes, If you were to go lower than my car. At my height I don’t have any problems.
