Everdell is one of those classic games that I for some reason have never actually played. ‘Cute’ board game art has never really been my thing but I’m a big fan of a lot of the mechanics in this game and I’m sure I would love it. I’m looking forward to the follow-up video to this, there are just too many boardgames! I have started to build back up my collection since a big move and I’m going to try to limit myself to 20 and we’ll see how long I can live my life with this restriction 😂 . Can I also say I really appreciate the seagull sounds in this video, thanks Dave!
Wow, Emma, I didn't realize you've never played Everdell! In my opinion it's a really great game that I've only grown in appreciation for over the years! ☺️ I don't (or at least didn't used to) think I'm a "cute" board game art fan by default but sometimes it's nice to play a relaxing, pleasant-looking game and I often find that Hannah likes those kinds of games better so that's a plus! 🥰 You know I was devastated to hear that you sold SO many games for the move to the States... how many games are you at now? (I saw you were able to get a copy of A Feast for Odin, though! YESSS! ⚔️) Twenty games is going to be a hard limit to stick to but I believe in you, Emma! p.s. Thank you for appreciating the seagull sounds! Honestly, it helped to somewhat mask just how echoey it was in the living room when I filmed the teach part of the video! 😅
@@BoardGameDave haha I would love to hear just what goes into filming one of these videos. I’m sure you have to work harder than expected! Currently, we have 10 board games and I’ve got my eye on 10 more lol so we’ll see how I go. Yeah the story with a feast for Odin was crazy because we brought it to America last June and when we got here In May of this year I was looking through all our boxes and I couldn’t find it and I assumed we must’ve given it to the thrift store (how devastating would that have been?!) but we ended up finding it in a box of books and have been playing it the last couple of nights, it’s just so good!
Emma, it is SO much work!! 😰 I've always thought it would be fun to do a "how I make a video" video but even that seems so daunting! 🤣 Man, I can't imagine stripping my games down to just ten! But I'm glad you're working on building up your collection again! And so happy to hear that you're getting AFFO to the table these days! I'm currently playing a turn-based game on BGA with the Norwegians expansions... boy, that's a doozie! ⚔️ I'd love to play together someday! Hope we can make that happen!
Thank you so much, Rob! I saw you just uploaded a Modern Art playthrough; I’ll have to check that out! 🖼️ I’ve been really trying to find a copy of the CMON edition of Modern Art but it seems extremely hard to find a (not-super-expensive) copy!
@@BoardGameDave I hope it is worthy of your attention! I'm glad I picked it up before the price went nuts. It is a classic so I am sure it will be reprinted by someone. At least the art will always be top notch. 😃
I actually just looked on BGG and there are some reasonably-priced copies! I might have to snag a copy (after I sell some games I currently own)! 🖼️ I'm watching the playthrough right now and enjoying it! Good stuff!
I really appreciate your reviews. I had no interest in Farshore, but I still wanted to hear your review-thanks! Also, really dig the panning camera shot of the game at 14:45.
Wow, thank you so much for your comment! (And for checking out a review for a game you’re not really interested in!) I’m so happy that you appreciated the B-roll footage! ☺️ Believe it or not, I just ordered a small 3-wheel dolly to make those panning B-roll shots look smoother… it was driving me nuts how shaky my handheld pan shots were! 😅 I’ll try to incorporate some dolly shots into next week’s video!
Thank you for the comment and welcome to the hobby! Don’t forget to come back next week to hear my thoughts on Farshore vs. Everdell and which (or both?) you should consider adding to your collection! ☺️
Hey Dave! Excellent review of Farshore!! As you know I am a mega-fan of Everdell as well and I think we share similar feelings towards the game in general. I’m really curious what you think of Farshore vs Everdell, because I think it’s quite an interesting comparison and one that is unavoidable in board gaming land! I enjoyed my plays of Farshore with the addition of the ship track and maps scoring, which definitely changed how I usually approach Everdell. I love the look of the game as well - it harkens back to the Everdell vibe for sure. This may slightly give away how I feel 😅 but in a vacuum, Farshore is a splendid game, but I’ll wait until your next video to share my other thoughts with Everdell! 🥰
Hey there, Marcus! 👋🏻 Thank you for checking out my Farshore review! Sounds like we do share similar feelings toward both games but you'll have to wait until next week to get my full side-by-side comparison! 😉 I do like the ship track in general, I like how those treasures can be used as a wild resource, and I like the map scoring as well! Overall I think Farshore is a great game on its own as well and is definitely worth a try for fans of Everdell... but does one need both in their collection? 🤔
I finally picked this up at GenCon this year. Played it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Great game! Really improves on the [few] weak points of Everdell. Helps that I got it for the 8/10 value, instead of the 6.5. 😅 I do miss the Bosley art, though. The new art is close, but missing that extra bit of charm.
Hey, Dale-thanks for the comment! I'm glad you were able to snag a copy and that you're enjoying Farshore so much! (And I'm especially glad you didn't pay the $100 MSRP for it!) 🤣 You know what's funny is that I honestly didn't take any notice of the difference in art styles and probably wouldn't have had a preference between the two until I started reading comments that had similar sentiments i.e. "missing that extra bit of charm" and now when I look at the cards I can sort of see what people mean! It's hard to beat the look of the original Everdell world! ☺️ But I really like the art in Farshore nonetheless! Hope we can game together sometime soon!
@@BoardGameDave Agreed, if we didn't have Bosley to compare it to, there'd be no disappointment. He's a tough act to follow, but Jacqui Davis did a fantastic job!
@@DaleKeefer That’s a good point and I totally agree! The art is fantastic and perhaps they wanted to go with a slightly new style for the “edge of the map” games? ☺️
@@BoardGameDave Could be that! Or maybe Bosley is too booked, or too expensive now? I got this out last night to try the solo mode (didn't really like it, but that's typical for 90% of solo modes for me). The other thing I noticed was the graphic design could use some work too. It's hard to tell the card types/colors from a distance, because the symbol is small and in the middle. I really wish they would have put the costs and symbols at the top like most games. They could have also had icons for "critter", "construction", "unique", and "common" up there too, so you can easily scan the bay for matching icons with the wind roses.
I'm sorry you weren't a fan of the solo mode! And I understand where you're coming from regarding the graphic design issues. Is it fair to say you're more a fan of Everdell or do you still prefer Farshore for the "fixes" you mentioned? 🤔 (See you soon at PAX Unplugged, right?)
