a while ago I went looking for a small, fast ship that I could zip around in and take a friend that was looking at getting into the game to places of interest, and maybe do some daring piloting so we can both s#!t bricks! 🤣 almost all the responses were for the 85x and I have never regretted a purchase LESS! It has been in my hangar in every patch since, I love this thing, good to see others love the space BMW as much as I do
Some paints for it, one day. I like the quite generous internal storage they added "recently". I played it with 4 scatterguns as you can outmaneuver and do bold moves - especially around larger ships - very easily with it.
I absolutely love this little ship. I just wish it docked with the 400i, 600i, or the 890 jump, like an Origin version of the snub craft on the Andromeda line. for the 400i it could be a module swap this for the X1 bay.
Surprised and pleased to see the 85x getting airtime! I bought it in-game, it proved so useful as a taxi I CCU'd an LTI token to it. It carries 2 people and some gear. It's spawn time is 1 minute or *_now_* for 502aUEC. It's not too shabby in combat but it's easy to black and red out with G-Safe off. I generally run 2x ballistic cannons on the wings and 2x laser cannons on the turret, and an Atlas drive to get across Stanton. Whether it proves useful elsewhere is another matter but so far so good.

To me it's like owning an MGB Sports car, only for space. It's fast, maneuverable and small. For passenger pickups, it's perfect. With only 2 seats, there is very little chance of you being shot by your passenger if they are disreputable. I found that that out a long time ago when I first purchased it. I like the luxury styling of it. I also like that it fits in my Carrack hanger easily. I think it will even fit in the front garage on the ship as well, but that doesn't leave much room for rovers. Personally, I don't use mine for combat, that's why I own fighters. Being able to call it from one of the vehicle pads at outposts is also nice. I know that if one buys an 890, the hanger on it will hold 2 of them and it comes with one as part of the purchase, much as the C8 Pisces comes with the Carrack. Take care my friend. I could see this in the future when we get ferrying missions this being sort of a "limousine" of sorts for a well heeled NPC for system wide transport.
I am a big fan of the 85X. All the points you made. I wanted a two-seater for carrying friends and discovered all the good things about the little ship. Well worth owning.
Expedite Claim Time 0s for a snub(which can be claimed from outpost) with qd really awesome. I preferred Civilian A Atlus for quantum drive,fast enough and don't need to refuel when goes from Arc to MT.😊
I love the 85X. You forgot to mention that the passenger can control the remote turret as well. I like to use it as a combat trainer for new players during my guiding sessions since its the smallest multi-crew ship in the game. Its usually in the hangar of my 890 or Carrack.
85x is basically the car of SC. Like a normal car the entire point is from point a to b and easy to get around. I think this is a great snub. I think I will get it in game when I get my bmm
The first ship I buy every time I start a fresh save. Easy to buy, quick to claim, and it gets me back to the ship I left behind when I died doing something stupid. What more could you ask for?
I have it and love it, just to fly around. I wish it had the AIR fuel system of the 100i on it. Thrilled that copilot can control the turret, that is nice! Good ship, great review; why haven't you got this yet?
Two things this little runabout has over other snubs: your passenger can't interfere with you making it a perfect rescue vehicle (as the rescued can't shoot you in the back), and also the passenger can take over the remote turret giving you cover fire to the rear while you as the pilot try to escape or dodge enemy fire.
Yeah, the 85X is extremely well and fun to handle and did have some of the best orbit-to-planet fly times (my knowledge may be a bit outdated). It makes for great personal shuttle as others mention. Your friends meet up on a different planet? Just call in your 85X and fly there. You ended your last adventure on a station where you have no ships? Quickly get your 85X and fly over to your preffered port of call.
I buy one in-game after every wipe. It's basically a snub with a quantum drive. And it certainly has come in handy for friend retrieval, body retrieval and an extremely quick exit of a planet's atmosphere.
I'm a sucker for this interstellar sports car. On a side note, I wish Kruger Intergalactic would wise up and find out how to cram Quantum Drives into their snubs.
The 85X is one of the few ships that actually went down in price with 3.23; an 85X is now 573,000 aUEC (it was 574,500 aUEC before 3.23). Considering an A2 went up to 44,296,876 aUEC from 5,525,000 aUEC when patch 3.23 landed, the price decrease on the 85X was a welcome surprise.
85X is a great daily ship to travel with, 2 sits, great feel & look, and doing lowfly with it, even if it is not very powerfull to yawn, feel like driving a luxury and smooth british car, i like it so much.
I do want this ship as a run about. Perfect for spawning at outposts when necessary & getting to where I'm going. Would be better if it had a trunk for 2-ish SCU; even a motorcycle can carry a box.
The ship I never really think about but constantly find myself in. You know I think CIG is really missing a trick. In a universe where ships like the 85X and Pisces exist, you'd think there would be more competitors in the genre of "space car". I mean, consider that in real life by far the most common road vehicles are the ones that are mostly for just driving yourself somewhere. I'd love to see more takes on the concept, and NPCs out to be buzzing around in ships like this once the game can handle it.
I would like this to be my favourite ship but the high dashboard in the cockpit is a little bit too much for me. It is a great ship, but I will have to go with the pieces rescue for the benefits. Thanks for the video mate.
The MG C 3.0GT, then! - Except for the fuel costs...that thing was scary in corners, a delight on the motorways, and more thirsty than me looking at spaceships.
The 85X makes a great little personal shuttle. And even those transport beacons can be handled safely when the passenger can't just pull out a gun in the seat. The real money price is pretty steep for what the ship does though.
The ONLY thing this needs is a small 1SCU container spot to be a bit useful for box missions or simply carrying groceries planetside back to orbit to your 890. Love this thing!
Great ship. Pre Mastermodes it would just melt through the Valkyries at the combat beacons. Takes quite a beating too. And you dont even have to buy it. You can rent it at New Babbage and try it out.
I wish this ship had other paints besides the stock one, not that I dislike it, but it's still a shame. Maybe the 85x could win a new paint in the ship showdown..?
It's not the same thing but back in 2019 there was a Valentine's Day version of this with a slightly different paint scheme. I have one in buy backs to re-purchase before 1.0 as a collector's item.
In my opinion the ugliest Origin ship in existence, I'd much rather get a 100i for the same purpose for the same price, looks much better, has an interior, has a bed (which can be used for passenger seating), has almost double weapon DPS (more than double capacitor pool and refill rate) and missiles as well, a bigger quantum fuel tank and finally it's faster in both SCM and max flight speed. I tried to also provide another perspective thinking it's superior to the pisces, but it has the same firepower as the expedition but that also has 2 missiles, that has seating for 3 (including pilot), more quantum fuel, interior space for SCU boxes and walking around, and while it doesn't have the 52% phys resist of the 85x, it has twice the HP pool, so effectively the same, while in-game costing even cheaper than the 85X. While I'm biased in that I think it's ugly, I think it's objectively worse compared to both the 100i and it's variants and the C8X pisces, the latter being 5 dollar cheaper, so at that point you'd JUST be buying the 85X for the looks, which I understand and am guilty off myself, for example even though there's better heavy fighters out there, I personally just love the vanguard harbinger too much to fly any other heavy fighter. I used to use an avenger titan for the purpose of what you discussed in the vid, but then sidegraded to a 125a and then settled on a 325a for that purpose, as it was nice and customizable plus came with pre-designed loadout packs.
Finally, the review I've been waiting for. The ship of my people. When your ship parents look like dentist offices, be an 85x.

I'd prefer the pisces red for the same purpose, with the additional possibility to have fast respawns on merc missions. Even though it's less stylish.
