Fun fact: “Fighter plane” in Japanese is “戦闘機” or “Sentōki”. So that’s probably not a coincidence, and the lore about the name is probably not as deep as CIG says. 😂
Xi'an stuff is very Asian/Far East inspired. Lots of parallels to origami, focus on agility at the cost of speed and armour very much like the famous A6M Zero, far off and 'alien' (in this case literally) culture and language etc etc.
Thanks to Wicked Wookies joke reviews I will forever see this ship as the Sand Teryaki. I will still watch this since you are by far my favorite ship reviewer. Love your content!
Ive wanted this ship ever since it was announced. Super glad to ser you review it. I got the Khartu-al a while back and fell in love with its flying style so I feel like itll be a smooth transition for me with this ship.
If you were used to flying the Khartu-al before 3.20, don't expect anything like that. I love my San'tok.yāi but it's just not where it should be right now, as far as flight performance goes, because they've chosen to balance it as a tank instead of the agile, hard to hit ship its supposed to be (as even the marketing states). The Khartu-al's "extremely nimble but fragile" niche that worked so well is long gone, and instead what we get is a generic feeling fighter that performs like every other, but being a larger target to hit.
@sebastiaomendonca1477 I think that is more fun what CIG stated that because of the huge amount of ships to convert to Master Modes, most sit in generic spots. Hopefully they get around to more tweaking, especially for outliers like the Santok Yai
I often fly the San with 4x Singe cannons with ~60% shield and 40% thruster power for even more beefiness and maneuverability as you can ignore the weapon power entirely with these guns. What's awesome about it is you can still manage to fly it quite fine (in space) even when all the wings are blown off - like an angry box with 4 weapons attached. Nice video once again.
I love this ship. It has been my main for the last few weeks. I'm glad you mentioned the landing too. That takes a lot of getting used to (still haven't).
Those weird landings are due to a bug. Once you deploy landing gear, you have to press K twice, and toggle vtol on and off again for it to work properly. Pretty easy work-around, but I hope they fix it. Good video.
This is a ship where my primary purchase reason would probably be looks and style. The only advantage it seems to have over the Banu Defender is 4 more missiles - the Defender has the same shield, is more nimble and comes with the rarer Singe Cannons instead of reskinned Panthers. Great review, I was looking forward to this one! :)
Good review as always in good english style. This ship was having a terrible bug when changing back to VTOL mode that made me crash to the ground several times 😂. I hope this bug is fixed. About the rest is a very cool ship and if you fly it while wearing an alien spacesuit, then you get the “wow” effect, since from the glass bubble everyone can see you. Is a ship that need a bit of love from the devs to be polished from bugs. Also, i think, the range is too much short considering the Kartu Al is more little but have a more big range.
Thanks. I tried the San'tok.yāi in Xeno-threat, and found it good for sniping quick kills in a target rich environment. Getting close in to the melee, those sticky-out petals showed the vulnerability of the ship. If you can use the ship to its strengths, then the San'tok.yāi is excellent, but those weaknesses are unforgiving .
Once again, great review Mr. FARRISTER! too bad the buttons ceased functioning, they worked when it released. A workaround is too get in and Open All; that often pops everything open including component and fuel doors.
Great review. I got a chance to try out this ship during Alien Week. I was impressed with it's handling. But a bit put off with how fragile it seemed. I like the design though!
I purchased this for real money looks cool with the red metallic paint,Also the guns are delicate, changed out to Quareller laser cannons each has 2850 hp to the gun itself instead of a tiny 1024,and hits for a little more per shot, went from 960 dps to 1264 dps,Changed out everything to Military grade-A except the Coolers love the 3 second recovery time on the Zero Rush competition grade B,but two JS-300 power plants,FR-76 shield,Atlas Quantum and change out the missiles from those Tempest II cross-section all eight only got you 13,362 damage, changed to the Rattler II Infrared to get a more respectable possible 32,560 damage.I used a Pulse with LTI to upgrade to this,I will be upgrading this to a Caterpillar a second one I have one already both will upgraded to finish out my purchased upgrades for a the Perseus and an Ironclad which will replace my present Caterpillar.I do love the Cat though so I might get another from another ship upgrade later.Great review as always looking forward to the next always enjoy them.Have a great week and see you guys in the verse.
Yo man long time follower just wondering when you are gonna do a review on the firebird? I'm curious to see what you think of it and I love your ship review videos!
Found it fun to fly around a bit; but very limited in utility. Perhaps something to purchase sometime, but most definitely in-game. Still flies great. Didn't have much issues with repairs. Do think that if shields go down or ballistics go through, it could get into trouble real fast. Have a Talon, much cheaper, flies a great deal better and has internal storage.
Is there still that bug that tanks your fps when you enter the STY cockpit? In 3.22 it was pretty much unflyable because while I got 80+ fps outside, it dropped to 30 as soon as I got inside or even looked at the cockpit.
The design and lore of Aopoa ships are very clear on the fact that they're meant to fit in a very specific niche. They're *supposed* to be exceptionally agile ships, making up for their unusually large hitbox by being really hard to hit, but as of 3.23 neither of them fit that role. For some uknown reason the ship team has decided to balance them around shield health instead of agility, which results in them feeling like every other fighter, and going against every bit of marketing they put out for the San'tok.yāi. If you flew the Khartu-al before 3.20 you know exactly what the niche was and how well it worked. That ship was never overpowered, it was never the clear winner like the Gladius, Arrow and Hornet all were at some point, but it stayed relevant anyway because, to make up for its large hitbox, it could fly circles around everything else. Thats how they're supposed to be. Not tanky, not with a lot of guns, but ships that, with a good pilot, could leverage their acceleration to dodge incoming fire instead of sponging it.
I was hoping CIG would put some size 4s on the ship instead of the original size 3 guns... I'm going to keep my original concept; hoping something special will come with future flight enhancements
I do not like the Alien tax, but the San'tok.yāi fit perfectly within a CCU chain gap I had, shaving off a couple of bucks and gives me the opportunity to fly something out of the ordinary for a bit
''alien tax''...no such thing, people only say nonsense like that when they should be paying the rent/buying food or paying the bills. If your a peon its not for you
I thoroughly enjoy the looks of the Khartu-al and San'tok.yai, their practicality not so much. I CCU'd my San'tok.yai for an Eclipse, which has been reasonable fun during XenoThreat.
Ah, the San'tok.yai I have mixed feelings about this ship. It's been my most anticipated for a long time, despite me not being a really combat pilot. And it's one hell of a beautiful ship, and its cockpit is easily one of the most beautiful and unique in the whole game. Also love the sound it makes as it flies. But for some reason it feels like "2% less than ideal" if that makes any sense. It's a pure fighter, for which there are competitors like the F7A2 which I have, and its repeaters aren't unique enough. If it had an interior it would have been great but obviously that's a bit too much to ask for. Maybe if its shape was as unique as the Khartu-al I'd have liked it enough. I don't know, I do have one I temporarily got with store credits, I'll probably be flying it a bit more to get the hang of it.
Cool ship, I love how it looks; however, I could never justify a pledge for one. Looking at hull value alone, there's no way I could pick something like this when I could have a Connie Andromeda for the same price.
I bought one in game and I love flying it but there is no way I would buy one with actual cash. It's fun to fly and use but for my cash I'm not willing to go above the Gladius' $90.
I hate glass on a warship, I mean right now we can't escape it due to technology limitations, but as advance as the civilization in Star Citizen is having a big fragile Glass canopy that large is just asking to die, the moment you loose shields that glass is going to be turn in to shrapnel at the least, at worst it not going to even slow down the rounds that will kill you. Every time I see a warship with big glass windows on it control tower (why the fuck they are in a tower in the first place) all I think about is how easy it will be to kill every one inside.
In game, the Lore states that they've developed glass that is basically transparent steel, which isn't that farfetched I mean you get transparent metals today, like Aluminium oxynitride.
Its just a stylistic choice like any other. Star Citizen isn't chasing realism too hard. Its closer to the soft sci-fi of Star Wars than the hard sci-fi of The Expanse
@@venividivici2195 Aluminium oxynitride is a ceramic, not a metal, but your point still stands. In the Star Citizen lore, the ship glass is made of a type of synthetic diamond.
trying to land this thing on a planet is almost impossible. At least for me. Perhaps I have too much of human DNA to fly this crap on an effective fashion

Same with Mandarin Chinese, which Xi’an sounds closest to (it’s literally a Chinese city name)
戦闘機 = “zhan dou ji”
when in it's landing config the "nose" of the ship is where it's storage and FPS gun rack are located, that is, when the buttons actually work.
Thanks to Wicked Wookies joke reviews I will forever see this ship as the Sand Teryaki. I will still watch this since you are by far my favorite ship reviewer. Love your content!

The cockpit always reminds me of Umbaran vehicles from The Clone Wars

A developer mentioned recently that the San'tok Yai landed position thrust issues have mostly been solved

Flip and burn!

Those petals thankfully only contain missiles. You can lose them without too much issue for the ship itself.
I think a Farrister blooper landing video would be fun. :)

Once they fix the landing and give it storage it can be a fun ship.
I did buy one when it came out, but ditched it along with the F7A MII, and instead picked up a Polaris! 🙂
Melted all 3 of those
Star citizen should make ships based on uap encounters on the news. Starting with the Tic Tac, and Orbs.

Not a ship I can say I desire. I have the Gatac Syulen, that is alien enough for me.
I like flying Aopoa ships. I used to dislike all the alien ships years ago. Than the Khartu-al changed my opinion.
At one point I was half expecting the Khartu'al to be a 2 person ship!

It's not very difficult to control the landing, the ship simply loses all control and falls like a brick.
It's a bug.
@@dex6147 I hope it's a bug they will fix. So far the only good thing about this ship is cockpit visibility.

I think everyone call it santokai
Not everyone ;)
buy me it
full of bugs in the 3.23 patch, it has best in class cap, same as the F8. pre-MM this ship was awesome, now its junk atm. 3.24 might be kind to it
For people who value their time and money, alien ships are def not worth it. Those are more whale and collector items.
