i started trying to learn racing in AC, rented a free m50 and crashed so many times lmao, i switched to my merlin and did a lot better since its slower, but the nose authority on the merlin felt a lot better in atmo
Yes the M50 is a wild ride to master. It loves speed and hates yawing so it's a tough one to learn with. The Krugers are very fun to fly indeed, it's just a shame they can't fly in NAV mode yet.

There are also a lot of unknowns around racing, like where do I do it, should I be doing arena commander or PU? should I be racing on CIG or fan-made tracks? how do I record that time? am I following the track correctly?

@@Teddy-tx7wb those are post processing effects made by the community. All those names are people who continuously work to keep the racing scene alive in SC . Hoping one day we can do custom ship liveries like these in-game
@@andrebullitt7212 it's ok to start with, but with the way the current flight model is, you will not have as much control as with de-coupled. It's very much worth trying to learn to de-coupled especially if you're interested in racing :)
From the tracks available, I would recommend starting with Lorville Outskirts as it quite a basic track that doesn't require too much complex manoeuvring. With regards to the M50, I will warn you that it can react very aggressively to rolling. I found that strafing in the opposite direction of the roll tends to keep it more stable. Lastly if you find yourself crashing a lot, I would recommend jumping into the Offline lobby for Classic Race and practice there as you can crash as often as you like there.
@@stgwi it is definitely worth getting into on MKB. Some of the fastest racers in the community still use MKB. Sticks will give you more precision and immersion but they are not mandatory at all
You'll eventually hit a plateau if you try to go competitive, but it's plenty enough to try things out and decide if you're passionnate enough for sticks
is it expensive and time consuming to get right into SC racing right away ? used to play elite dangerous ... worked my ass off grinding up my "race cobra" but there is nooooOooo racing going on in that game :( ... have so many questions now ...
@@solunasunrise if by expensive you mean peripherals, the expense is entirely up to you. You can definitely race with just mouse and keyboard as much as you can with sticks. Buying equipment should only be done if you're invested into it and want a more immersive experience but it isn't a barrier for entry. In game tho, the ships are a bit pricey but it's very doable in a few hours of money making. If you wanna learn racing, I have a full fundamentals playslist and for even more info, I recommend joining the XGR discord where we host racing schools monthly :)
Sc is a great game, i have no bugs at all. Alot of missions and most beautiful world of all in gaming. You will be amazed of its quality. They delevered on all fronts, and keeps getting better.
@@Dragon69FlyTeam That's over 600 per year so like 50 per month. That's quite a lot. I do hope CIG gets to 4.0 and eventually 1.0. The server meshing Evo tests were a great indicator that they have a great product. I do think they will get there but I prefer just my single Cutter starter that I got for 45 on sale
@@FuriousImp when i started we had a lot of wipes, also lti seemed to be like a big deal. Being young working full time and still living at my parents i had a overload of cash to spend. bought 1 or 2 games per month for xbox etc. thats around 140 euro a month on games copys alone lol. so a ccu ones a couple of months to get bigger ships all lti seems logical back then. Now im married and its alle gone lol. same day i got payed poef and its gone lol stay with youre cutter dont fall in the same trap like i did. i started with a 25 euro aurora XD
I hate how they removed gravity from decoupled mode. Gravity made each race on different planets fun and unique, now it takes less skill to fly and it’s less fun and less realistic 👌
@@Soeks77 they actually separated gravity to its own setting. It's called gravity compensation. I have a video on the settings to make flying much better if you wanna check it out if you wanna see where to find it :)
@@Soeks77 the last track you unlock is miner's lament and at platinum that gives you 8k but the lap time is around the 1:30-2:00 so not very worth.. yadar valley gives 7k per platinum and is around a 1min lap on averag so you can squeeze a lot more per hour if you're willing to grind it out
Zero G racing can be very difficult when starting out cos you have no drag to slow you down. Just listen to some anime racing songs and you'll shave seconds just for that 🤣
@@dimitrirouge5568 it's still fun but is just a bit more challenging than before. If the SCM speed is what bothers you, know that most competitive racing happens in NAV FLT mode.
Also, you can generally find some ok second hand T15000 joysticks, that's what I did. Costed me just 80 euros for two of them, have been flying with them for a couple of months now
Summary: - Because you'll get better at piloting (shocker) - Because people are cool - Because you can do it even when the "game" is broken These are the GREAT reasons to race in this tech demo.
People who are enthusiastic about cool stuff will do it even when it's tech demo and will be. People who are not as enthusiastic about this particular kind of racing in this particular tech demo will go and enjoy great actual games like maybe Redout (although it's only antigrav racing) and a few more usually with little to no online competition. Star Citizen kind of has a stable racing community though. Despite being a tech demo :)

Racing in Star Citizen is reminiscent of Burnout Paradise, but there you don't feel like a driver but like an opponent who is constantly crashing.
If it’s AC, it may be the only smooth SC flying experience you’ll ever have, lol. The PU is buggy AF.

What would you suggest a good learning track to be with M50. I just tried the one on daymar by the garden but it was dark and I immediately crashed.

Is racing worth getting into with just M/KB or do you need flight sticks?

Some of the best racers in the game fly mouse and keyboard. If you put in the work, any control scheme can race!
